Side Effects Of Microwave :

1. Continually eating food processed from a microwave oven causes long term

— permanent — brain damage by "shorting out" electrical impulses in the

brain, de-polarizing or de-magnetizing the brain tissue.

2. The human body cannot metabolize the unknown byproducts created in

microwaved food.

3. Male and female hormone production is shut down and/or altered by

continually eating microwaved foods.

4. The effects of microwaved food by-products are permanent within the

human body.

5. Minerals, vitamins, and nutrients of all microwaved food is reduced or altered

so that the human body gets little or no benefit, or the human body absorbs

altered compounds that cannot be broken down.

6. The minerals in vegetables are altered into cancerous free radicals when

cooked in microwave ovens.

7. Microwaved foods cause stomach and intestinal cancer tumors. This may

explain the rapidly increased rate of colon cancer in America.

8. The prolonged eating of microwaved foods causes cancerous cells to

increase in human blood.

9. Continual ingestion of microwaved food causes immune system deficiencies

through lymph gland and blood serum alterations.

10. Eating microwaved food causes loss of memory, concentration, emotional

instability, and a decrease of intelligence.

HEALTH BENEFITS OF ARTICHOKE

Globe artichokes are a rich source of dietary fibre & have more antioxidants than most vegetables. Some studies show that a diet rich in flavonoids present in artichokes reduces the risk of breast cancer. They're supposed to be good for the liver & digestion. The chemicals present in artichokes can reduce nausea, vomiting, spasms & intestinal gas. Regular consumption of artichokes helps raise good cholesterol (HDL) & lowers bad cholesterol (LDL).

I'll be away

Hi All

have a great festive season ahead. I'm likely to be away for some days, was already in n out of hospital during the last few days. First thought just acute attack of asthma, then pulmonary embolism was ruled out with CT, now it is thought to be cardiac problem, as 2 years back I did have a heart attack, was in CCU for 19 days with oxygen 24x 7, as there was too much of pericardium fluid around heart n lungs. Only after it was all drained out, totally almost 1 litre, I was able to breathe on my own.

So, just keep your fingers crossed that it is nothing serious, so, I'm back to blogging soon. As now, having chest pain, even with little walking, breathlessness, too much pressure in my chest. Dr. wants to do an angio on Thursday, sad part is my little grandson, just 1 year old is coming to visit me & I'll be in the hospital, miss my time with my son n his family.

Take care all of you out there. Good health, keep smiling.

Happy Diwali, Halloween etc to all around the world.

LAZY WAY TO LOSE WEIGHT

This is a lazy way to lose weight. It burns hundreds of calories even if you are just sitting down on your computer. It also increases your metabolism which helps in weight loss

For Recipe. You Need:
2 tsp Honey
1 tsp Cinnamon
1cup/ 8oz/ 237 ml Water

Directions:
1) Use 1 part of cinnamon to 2 parts of raw honey. 1 tsp cinnamon to 2 tsp honey is recommended.
2) Boil 1 cup/8oz/237 ml of water.
3) Pour the boiling water on cinnamon. Cover it and let it steep until it is warm enough to drink.
4) Add honey when the water is cool/warm. Never add honey when it is hot as the heat will destroy the enzymes and other nutrients in the raw honey.
5) Drink 1/2 of this before going to bed. The other half should be covered and refrigerated and drink it in the morning. Do not re-heat it in the morning.

Do not add any flavours in this mixture. And this recipe only works if you drink it on empty stomach.

Protein can lead to drug treatments for chronic pain

Scientists have created a new bio-therapeutic molecule that could be used to treat neurological disorders such as chronic pain and epilepsy.

Scientists from 11 research institutes, created and characterised a new molecule that was able to alleviate hypersensitivity to inflammatory pain.

By separating elements of clostridium botulinum and clostridium tetani neurotoxins, commonly known as Botox and tetanus toxin respectively, the scientists were able to develop a model to re-join the molecule proteins yielding new biomedical properties, without unwanted toxic effects.

While the Botox element is able to block neuronal communication - and therefore pain signals - for months, the tetanus component targets the engineered toxin to the central nervous system, rather than stopping at exterior neurons that are the normal target of Botox.

The combination of the two effects is of great interest for neuroscience and can be applied to the treatment of several neurological disorders, particularly chronic pain conditions.
Botox and tetanus neurotoxins hold great promise for clinical applications, but since they are the most lethal proteins known to man, their paralytic activity was a stumbling block until now, researchers said.

"The toxins were split into parts so they were unable to function. Then later they were reassembled using a 'zipping' system so they can operate in a safe way," said  one of the lead authors of the study.

"The re-engineered chimera toxin has very similar characteristics to Botox and is still able to block neuro-transmission release, but the paralytic effect is a lot less. We then added a tetanus molecule which targets the chimera to where the pain signals travel towards the central nervous system," he said.

Preliminary data on animal models has now been collated  and future clinical trials are expected to fully characterise the new bio-therapeutic.

"Many painkillers relieve the pain temporarily and have various side effects. The selling point of this molecule is that the pain relief could last up to seven months, in a similar way that Botox injections for removing wrinkles last for several months," he said.

Natural Wonders – Ragi

The humble ragi, considered an inexpensive staple food, is rich in many nutritional benefits, making it a truly wonder food we should all incorporate into our diets.
Natural wonders - Ragi
Ragi – A humble grain that is a true natural wonder

Ragi – the humble grain

Ragi, also called finger millet, is a cereal crop. India is a major cultivator of this crop, with the state of Karnataka being the largest producer of ragi in the country. Being a cheap crop, it is widely used by the poorer sections of the society.

The nutritional benefits of ragi

Nutritionally, when ragi is used as a whole grain, it is higher in protein and minerals in comparison to rice.  Red millet is primarily a source of energy in the diet with each serving of ragi (20g) providing 66kcal. It is also rich in fibre and therefore suitable for people trying to lose weight. Ragi, unlike wheat does not contain gluten (a protein found in wheat), and can be easily consumed by people with wheat intolerance.
Ragi is a wonder cereal grain as it has numerous health benefits:
Good source of calcium – Amongst cereals, ragi is particularly rich in calcium, a mineral essential for good bone health. It is a very good source of natural calcium for growing children and older adults, and helps improve bone strengthening.
Energy for weight watchers – Finger millet is a good source of energy for weight watchers, as it contains the amino acid tryptophan that reduces the appetite. Besides, being high in fibre, it provides a feeling of fullness when consumed, and keeps the urge to eat frequently under control.
Beats high sugar and cholesterol – Ragi is beneficial for diabetics as well as those with high cholesterol, as the high fibre content of Ragi makes it a food item with low glycaemic index. That is, it results in slow increase in blood sugar level.
Good mix of amino acids – Due to a good amino acid mix in ragi, it is beneficial for tissue repair, relieving migraine, improving the metabolic rate of the body, optimal muscle coordination, and helps reduce the bad cholesterol (LDL-cholesterol). The amino acids lecithin and methionine eliminate excessive fat from the liver, and in turn reduce the cholesterol content of the body.
Source of iron – Being a good source of iron, it is beneficial of individuals with low haemoglobin level.
Excellent baby food – As ragi is low in fat, and is gluten free, it is easily digested. It is therefore, given as first foods to babies in the form of Ragi Seri. Being a good source of calcium in the diet, it is good for bone development in babies.
Also good for new moms – Besides, it is also given to new mother to improve the haemoglobin levels. Lactating mothers are made to eat green ragi, as it improves milk production.
Ragi mudde is a common preparation of ragi eaten with sambar. Being high in fibre, ragi is incorporated in multi-grain biscuits and bread to enhance the fibre content of the product. Ragi can be used to make porridge, upma, cakes, biscuits, dosas and many other preparations.
Though a cheap crop, but it is high in nutritive value and extremely beneficial.

Apple Really Does Keep The Doctor Away

Crisp, comforting and delicious, apples have remarkable health benefits, fighting everything from dental problems to diabetes, heart disease, at least 8 types of cancer, and possibly even Alzheimer’s.
One of the latest discoveries is that eating at least 2 servings a week of whole fruit—particularly apples, blueberries, or grapes—trims risk for type 2 diabetes by up to 23 percent, compared to people who eat less than one serving per month, according to new data from three long-running studies that include 187,382 participants. The scientists also report that cutting out three servings of fruit juice and eating whole fruit instead would cut diabetes danger by 7 percent.
n fact, apples may be one of the best healing foods, but also carry a risk you should be aware of. “Because apples are vulnerable to worms and other pests, conventionally grown fruit can be high in pesticides because it’s sprayed several times,” cautions Smith, who recommends either buying organic or washing the fruit thoroughly before eating.
Here are some of the latest findings about this delightful autumn food:

Protection Against Cardiovascular Disease

An apple snack soaked with tangerine juice lowers cardiovascular risk in children, according to researchers. The study included 48 obese kids ages 9 to 15 who followed a low-calorie diet for 4 weeks. Eating the apple/tangerine snack improved the kids’ blood pressure, lipid levels and antioxidant defences, while also reducing inflammatory markers linked to heart risk.

Lower Risk for Stroke

Contrary to the popular belief that the healthiest fruits and veggies are brightly colored, a large Dutch study found that eating white produce (in amounts equal to one medium or large apple) reduces stroke risk by 52 percent, compared to people who eat smaller amounts. Although the researchers looked at a variety of white produce, apples, pears and apple sauce were the ones most commonly eaten by the 20,069 participants. There was no link between eating foods of other colors and rates of stroke, according to the study.

Whiter, Healthier Teeth

“Apples are often called ‘nature’s toothbrushes,’ because they help clean and brighten teeth,” says Smith. “The crisp, abrasive texture stimulates the gums and removes debris from your teeth, while the mildly acidic flavor increases saliva flow to rinse away plaque.” A 2012 study reported that men who ate high-fiber fruits (particularly apples and bananas) were at lower risk for tooth loss and progression of gum disease. The study tracked 625 men for 15 years.

Help You Stay Slim

“Studies  show that people who eat 3 apples or pears a day lose weight,”. “These fruits are low in calories (80 for a medium apple) and loaded with water and fibre, so they fill you up. They’re also digested slowly, so  you feel satisfied longer.”

May Prevent 8 Types of Cancer

A scientific review reports that people who eat one or more apples daily have significantly lower risk of oral cancer and cancers of the voice box (larynx), breast, oesophagus, colon, kidney, prostate and ovary, compared to those who nosh on the fruit less often. The study included more than 6,000 people and this pattern held true even when the participants’ age, calorie intake, diet, smoking, and weight were taken into account.
“In lab studies out of Germany, there’s evidence that when fibre in apples ferments in the colon, it produces cancer fighting compounds,” says Dr. “Other lab studies show that procyanidins—natural compounds found in apple skins—trigger cancer cell death.”

Help Head off a Heart Attack

The same scientific review also reported that women who ate as little as 71 grams of apple daily (about half of a small apple) were 43 percent less likely to die from cardiovascular disease—the leading killer of Americans—than were women who didn’t eat the fruit at all. A study of elderly men found similar benefits to eating an average of 69 grams of apple daily, versus little or no apple consumption.

May Help Ward off Alzheimer’s

Animal studies suggest that apple juice may have a variety of positive effects on brain health, including reducing age-related memory and cognitive impairment. What’s more, in animals, daily consumption of apple juice appears to protect against brain changes and damage associated with Alzheimer’s disease, though it is not yet known if tasty drink has the same effect on the human brain.

List of Zero Calories Foods

Here’s a list of foods that can be considered calorie free
Did you know there are foods that do not contribute any calories to your diet? Is there something one can eat or drink without feeling guilty about failing the diet chart while losing weight? This is a common query that someone venturing to lose weight asks the dietician. Well, although water and soda may be the only ones with zero calories, there is a decent list of food items that maybe considered calorie free. Using them to good effect in a diet will add palatability, variety and compliance. Some of them like herbs and greens give you a bushel of antioxidants at no extra caloric cost. Nutritionally, a food has to be less than 20 kcal and less than 5 grams carbohydrate per serving to be labelled a ‘free food’. (That is how the American Dietetic Association defines a free food). The logic is that one never eats or drinks several servings of these anyway and even if one did, they add nil or negligible numbers to the caloric constraints of diet.
Some more foods deserve being mentioned here because they are very low calorie. They are Kimchi and sauerkraut (in less than 100gm quantity), Wheat bran (one tablespoon) and Kerala’s very own summer drink the sambaram when made thinly.
All vegetables (except starchy ones like potato) are very low calorie foods giving just 25 kcal per half cup cooked portions. They add bulk and nutrition to the diet and should be fully exploited during meals in order to keep hunger at bay. Here’s a list of ‘free foods’.
Some ‘Free foods’:
  • Water – bottled, fresh, aerated
  • Vegetable clear soups, consommé, broth (like Maggi bouillon)
  • Coconut water, sugar free sports drinks
  • Vinegar
  • Black coffee and tea, herbal teas, green teas (no sugar or milk)
  • Flavouring extracts, sugar free jelly, cocoa powder
  • Spices, condiments, herbs fresh or dried, garlic, ginger, green chillies, curry leaves
  • Sauces - Soy, Worcestershire, Tabasco
  • Juices – lemon, cucumber, lauki/ bottle gourd, bitter gourd, fresh cranberry/amla/ Indian gooseberry
  • Salad greens – celery, lettuce, watercress, etc
  • Vegetables pickled in vinegar

Natural Remedies for Type 2 Diabetes

Diabetes treatment can include many elements, including traditional medications, alternative medicine, and natural remedies. Please read till the end & come to a conclusion.
Alternative therapies encompass a variety of disciplines that include everything from diet and exercise to mental conditioning and lifestyle changes. Examples of alternative treatments include acupuncture, guided imagery, chiropractic treatments, yoga, hypnosis, biofeedback, aromatherapy, relaxation exercises, herbal remedies, massage, and many others.
The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, part of the National Institutes of Health, defines complementary and alternative medicine as a "group of diverse medical and health care systems, practices, and products that are not presently considered to be part of conventional medicine." Complementary medicine is used with conventional treatments, whereas alternative medicine is used instead of conventional medicine.
Some people with diabetes use complementary or alternative therapies to treat diabetes. Although some of these therapies may be effective, others can be ineffective or even harmful. Patients who use complementary and alternative medicine need to let their healthcare providers know what they are doing.

What Alternative Treatments Are Used As Diabetes Treatment?

Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a procedure in which a practitioner inserts very thin needles into designated points on the skin. Some scientists say that acupuncture triggers the release of the body's natural painkillers. Acupuncture has been shown to offer relief from chronic pain. Acupuncture is sometimes used by people with neuropathy, the painful nerve damage of diabetes.
Biofeedback
Biofeedback is a technique that helps a person become more aware of and learn to deal with the body's response to pain. This alternative therapy emphasizes relaxation and stress-reduction techniques.
Guided imagery is a relaxation technique that some professionals who use biofeedback also practice. With guided imagery, a person thinks of peaceful mental images, such as ocean waves. A person may also include the images of controlling or curing a chronic disease, such as diabetes. People using this technique say these positive images can ease their condition.

What Natural Dietary Supplements Are Used for Diabetes Treatment?

Chromium
The benefit of added chromium for diabetes has been studied and debated for several years. Several studies report that chromium supplements may improve diabetes control. Chromium is needed to make glucose tolerance factor, which helps insulin improve its action. Because of insufficient information on the use of chromium to treat diabetes, no recommendations for supplementation exist.
Ginseng
Several types of plants are referred to as ginseng, but most studies of ginseng and diabetes have used American ginseng. Those studies have shown some sugar-lowering effects in fasting and after-meal blood sugar levels as well as in A1c levels (average blood sugar levels over a three-month period). However, larger and more long-term studies are needed before general recommendations for use of ginseng can be made. Researchers also have determined that the amount of sugar-lowering compound in ginseng plants varies widely.
Magnesium
Although the relationship between magnesium and diabetes has been studied for decades, it is not yet fully understood. Studies show that a deficiency in magnesium may worsen blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes. Scientists say that a deficiency of magnesium interrupts insulin secretion in the pancreas and increases insulin resistance in the body's tissues. Evidence suggests that a deficiency of magnesium may contribute to certain diabetes complications. A recent analysis showed that people with higher dietary intakes of magnesium (through consumption of whole grains, nuts, and green leafy vegetables) had a decreased risk of type 2 diabetes.
Vanadium
Vanadium is a compound found in tiny amounts in plants and animals. Early studies showed that vanadium normalized blood sugar levels in animals with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. A recent study found that when people with diabetes were given vanadium, they developed a modest increase in insulin sensitivity and were able to decrease their insulin requirements. Currently researchers want to understand how vanadium works in the body, discover potential side effects, and establish safe dosages.
Coenzyme Q10
Coenzyme Q10, often referred to as CoQ10 (other names include ubiquinone and ubiquinol) is a vitamin-like substance. CoQ10 helps cells make energy and acts as an antioxidant. Meats and seafood contain small amounts of CoQ10. Supplements are marketed as tablets and capsules. The evidence is not sufficient to evaluate CoQ10's effectiveness as a complementary or alternative therapy for diabetes. CoQ10 has not been shown to affect blood sugar control.

What Plant Foods Are Used for Diabetes Treatment?

The following plant foods are sometimes used for diabetes treatment, particularly for those with type 2 diabetes.
  • Brewer's yeast
  • Buckwheat
  • Broccoli and other related greens
  • Cinnamon
  • Cloves
  • Coffee
  • Okra/ lady finger/ bhindi
  • Peas
  • Fenugreek seeds/methi
  • SageSage Leaves leaves photo
Most plant foods are rich in fiber, vitamins, and minerals, which are important to good health in people with diabetes. Some revealing new studies show that certain plant foods -- cinnamon, cloves, and coffee -- may actually aid in fighting inflammation and help insulin, the hormone that helps controls blood sugar. Studies have shown that cinnamon extracts can increase sugar metabolism, triggering insulin release, which also affects cholesterol metabolism. Clove oil extracts (eugenol) have been found to improve the function of insulin and to lower glucose, total cholesterol, LDL, and triglycerides. Recent findings indicate that an unknown compound in coffee (not caffeine) may enhance insulin sensitivity and reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
Still, the scientific evidence thus far does not support the role of garlic, ginger, ginseng, hawthorn, or nettle in benefiting blood sugar control in people with diabetes. If you have diabetes and are considering taking any of these herbal substances for diabetes treatment, be sure you talk to your doctor before you take them.

What Weight Control Substances Are Used for Diabetes Treatment?

The following plant foods are sometimes used for diabetes treatment, particularly for those with type 2 diabetes.
Since weight and diabetes are linked, many people with diabetes turn to natural alternative therapies for diabetes treatment, particularly those that claim to help with weight loss, including:
  • Chitosan is a sugar that is obtained from the hard outer skeleton of shellfish, including crab, lobster, and shrimp. It is used for medicine
  • Garcinia cambogia (hydroxycitric acid)s a derivative of citric acid that is found in a variety of tropical plants including Garcinia cambogia and Hibiscus subdariffa.
  • Chromium
  • Pyruvate-a salt, ester, or anion of pyruvic acid. Pyruvate is the end product of glycolysis and may be metabolized to lactate or to acetyl CoA.
  • Germander-Called: Canada Germander, Wood-sage, Wall Germander, Dwarf Germander ... Any of various usually aromatic plants of the genus Teucrium, with purplish or reddish flowers.
  • Momordica charantia (Chinese bitter melon)often called bitter melonbitter gourd or bitter squash in English, has many other local namesGoya from the indigenous language of Okinawa and karavella from Sanskrit are also used by English-language speaker
  • Sauropus androgynus (sweet leaf bush)Sauropus androgynus (L.) Merrill also known as katuk, star gooseberry, or sweet leaf, is a shrub grown in some tropical regions as a leaf vegetable.
  • Aristolochic acid- are a family of carcinogenic, mutagenic, and nephrotoxic compounds commonly found in the Aristolochiaceae family of plants, including Aristolochia and Asarum (wild ginger), which are commonly used in Chinese herbal medicine. Aristolochic acid I is the most abundant of the aristolochic acids and is found in almost all Aristolochia species.Aristolochic acids are often accompanied by aristolactams.
Aristolochic acids are slightly soluble in water, have a melting point between 281 and 286 degrees celsius, and have a bitter flavor.
In addition, transdermal (skin patch) systems as well as oral sprays have been developed to purportedly reduce appetite and facilitate weight loss. One patch system uses homeopathic amounts of 29 different compounds to reduce appetite. What is the bottom line? There's not one published study available on its efficacy.

Are Herbs Really Safe for Diabetes Treatment?

In 2003, ephedrine -- also known as ma huang -- became the first herbal stimulant ever banned by the FDA. A popular component of over-the-counter weight loss drugs, ephedrine was found to have some benefits. However, the evidence of its ability to cause harm was far more compelling. In high doses, ephedrine has been known to cause insomnia (difficulty falling and staying asleep), high blood pressure, glaucoma, and urinary retention. This herbal supplement has also been associated with numerous cases of stroke.
Chitosan has received a great deal of recent publicity. It is derived from seashells and has the ability to bind to fat and prevent its absorption. Although it is said to facilitate weight loss, available studies thus far have not been encouraging.
Germander, Momordica charantiaSauropus androgynus, and aristolochic acid have been associated with liver disease, pulmonary disease, and kidney disease.
The other so-called "obesity remedies" listed have not been rigorously studied, and those that been reviewed have yielded disappointing results.
Also, a recent survey of herbal preparations for obesity found that many preparations contained lead or arsenic and other toxic metals. Some also contain other undeclared ingredients. Occasionally, there was mistaken plant identity as well.

What to Consider Before Using Natural Therapies for Diabetes Treatment

Before you think about using a natural therapy for diabetes treatment, be sure to consider the following:
  • Discuss any drugs you use, including herbal products, with your doctor before taking them.
  • If you experience side effects such as nausea, vomiting, rapid heartbeat, anxiety, insomnia, diarrhoea, or skin rashes, stop taking the herbal product and notify your doctor immediately.
  • Avoid preparations made with more than one herb.
  • Beware of commercial claims of what herbal products can do. Look for scientific-based sources of information.
Select brands of natural products carefully. Only purchase brands that list the herb's common and scientific name, the name and address of the manufacturer, a batch and lot number, expiration date, dosage guidelines, and potential side effects.
