Knowing These Stomach Cancer Tips Could Save Your Life!

Stomach cancer starts when cancer cells form in the inner lining of your stomach. This is a slow-growing disease that usually grows over many years.

If you know its symptoms, you and your doctor might be able to spot it early, when it's a lot easier to treat.

What Causes Stomach Cancer?
Doctors don't know what causes cancer cells to start growing in the stomach, but they do know a few things that can increase your risk of getting the disease. One of them is infection with a common bacteria, H. pylori, which causes ulcers. Growths in your stomach can also increase your likelihood of getting stomach cancer.

Other things that seem to play a role in increasing your risk include:

• Being overweight or obese

• Smoking

• Type-A blood

• A diet that is high in smoked, pickled, or salty foods

• Certain genes

• Exposure to asbestos

• Working in coal, timber, metal, or rubber industries

• Epstein-Barr virus infection

Symptoms Early on, stomach cancer may cause:

 • Heartburn

• Indigestion

• Feeling bloated after a meal

• Slight nausea

• Loss of appetite

Just having heartburn or indigestion after a meal doesn't mean that you have stomach cancer. However, if these symptoms occur a lot, talk to your doctor. They will be able to see if you have other risk factors and give you some tests to detect any problems.

As the stomach tumor starts to grow, you may have more serious symptoms, such as:

• Blood in your stool

• Stomach pain

• Vomiting

• Weight loss for no apparent reason

• Trouble swallowing

• Yellowish eyes or skin

• Swelling in your stomach

• Constipation or diarrhea

• Weakness or feeling tired

• Heartburn

Getting a Diagnosis

Your doctor will give you a physical exam. He should also ask you about your medical history to see if you have any risk factors for stomach cancer or any family members who have had it. Then, he might give you some tests, including:

• Blood tests to look for signs of cancer in your body.

• Upper GI series test - You will drink a chalky liquid with a substance called barium in it. The fluid coats your stomach and makes it show more clearly on X-rays.

• Upper endoscopy - Your doctor will place a thin, flexible tube with a small camera down your throat to look into your stomach.

• Biopsy - Your doctor takes a small piece of tissue from your stomach to look at under a microscope for signs of cancer cells.

• CT Scan - This is a powerful X-ray that takes detailed pictures of the inside of your body.

Treatment

There are many treatments that are used to fight stomach cancer. The one that you and your doctor choose will depend on how long you have had the disease or how much it has spread through your body.

Surgery

Your doctor might decide to remove part of your stomach and other tissues nearby that have cancer cells. Surgery gets rid of the tumor and stops it from spreading further. If your disease is advanced, the doctor might need to remove all of your stomach.

Chemotherapy

Drugs kill your cancer cells or keep them from growing. You can take them as pills or through an IV at a hospital. Chemo usually takes several weeks, and the drugs often have unpleasant side effects.

Radiation

High-energy waves or particles can destroy cancer cells and shrink tumors. Your doctor may use an X-ray or other machines to beam radiation at the tumor.

Targeted Drugs

These newer drugs are different because they only fight the cancer cells. Other treatments, such as radiation and chemo, can kill healthy cells along with diseased ones. As a result, targeted therapies have fewer side effects than other treatments.

How Can I Prevent Stomach Cancer?

Eat Healthy

Put more fruit and vegetables on your plate every day. They're high in fiber and vitamins that can lower your cancer risk. You should avoid very salty, cured, pickled, or smoked foods, processed lunch meats, and smoked cheeses. Keep your weight at a healthy level too, as being overweight increases your risk of the disease.

Don't Smoke

Your risk of getting stomach cancer is doubled if you use tobacco.

Treat Stomach Infections

If you have stomach ulcers from a H. Pylori infection, get treatment. Antibiotics can kill the bacteria, and other drugs will heal the sores in the lining of your stomach to decrease your risk of cancer.

Stomach Cancer: How Can Your Mouthwash Help Spot The Early Symptoms?

stomach cancer: how can your mouthwash help spot the early symptoms?

Stomach or gastric cancer forms when cancer cells grow out of control in your stomach. It happens when abnormal cell growth meets your esophagus or the gastroesophageal junction. Doctors say more than 95 per cent of the time, stomach cancer starts in your stomach lining and progresses slowly.

According to experts, the symptoms of stomach cancer are not easy to detect initially and are usually known when it reaches the last stage. But a simple mouthwash test can detect the earliest signs of stomach cancer that strikes millions across the world. Researchers from Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine say the oral rinse would pick up specific bacteria that are linked to gastric cancer before it gets even formed.

Researchers say analyzing mouth bacteria samples of people with or at risk of stomach cancer can help spot the pre-cancerous conditions as it works as a screening and prevention tool. The study included 98 patients scheduled for endoscopy, of which 30 were known to have stomach cancer. Researchers said a few of them had pre-cancerous gastric conditions and the remaining 38 were healthy.

Researchers analyzed mouth bacteria samples of people with or at risk of stomach cancer, identifying specific biomarkers tied to the disease to develop their cancer spotting mouthwash. The team then found distinct differences between the oral microbiomes of the healthy group compared to the cancerous and pre-cancerous patients.

Very few differences were observed between the samples from patients with cancer and those at risk of it. This suggested that the changes in the mouth microbiome may happen as soon as the stomach starts to undergo changes that can eventually turn into cancer.

The findings that were presented at the Digestive Disease Conference suggest that mouth bacteria alone could indicate whether someone is at risk of stomach cancer. Based on the biomarkers, the study authors identified a model of 13 bacterial strains that were present in the mouths of cancerous and pre-cancerous patients.

They now plan to conduct larger studies to test whether their findings can be applied to a wider population.

Signs and symptoms of stomachcancer

Experts say stomach cancer does not typically cause symptoms during the early stages. Even the most common early signs of stomach cancer, often unexplained weight loss and stomach pain do not usually show up until the cancer is more advanced.

Symptoms of stomach cancer include:

  • Loss of appetite
  • Trouble swallowing
  • Fatigue or weakness
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Heartburn and indigestion
  • Black stool
  • Vomiting blood
  • Feeling bloating and gassy
  • Stomach pain, often above your belly button
  • Feeling full even after eating a small meal or snack
Many of these symptoms are common in other conditions, too. See your provider to check if your symptoms are a sign of stomach cancer or another disease. You should speak to your healthcare provider if you have a strong family history of stomach cancer, if:
  • Many close family members were diagnosed with stomach cancer and other cancers, such as bowel or breast cancer
  • Close family members were diagnosed with stomach cancer at a young age, for example under the age of 40.

This is What Bad Breath Says About Your Health

Bad breath doesn’t necessary mean poor hygiene, but it could be the symptom of an untreated disease. The smell of your breath can tell you an awful lot about different health issues you might have and which type of doctor you should see.

Below are 9 health issues associated with bad breath. Take note of these and make an appointment with a doctor if you think your bad breath might be a symptom of something serious:

1. Acid Reflux or Heartburn – Sour Smell

If your breath smells sour, then there is a condition associated with it – acid reflux. In order to control this smell and make it disappear, you’ll have to take control of your condition first. Also, changing your diet and excluding trigger foods such as garlic, alcohol, spicy food, and coffee may help.

2. Gum Disease –
Rotting Teeth Smell If you have a rotten tooth, then your breath will certainly be letting you know that something is wrong. If this is the case, then you need to make an appointment with the dentist. Gingivitis and periodontitis are the two main conditions associated with rotting teeth and bad odor from your mouth.

3. Stomach Cancer –
Metallic Taste and Smell A metallic taste in your mouth with a similar breath odor is a typical sign of advanced stomach cancer. However, it must be noted that certain medications can sometimes give similar smelling breath.

4. Diabetes – Fruity Smell
A fruity smell from your mouth wouldn’t be considered much of a problem if it weren’t for the fact that it’s a symptom of a much more serious issue. Such an odor only appears when a person is about to develop a diabetic ketoacidosis. Make an appointment with an endocrinologist if you notice that you have fruity breath.

5. Lung Cancer –
Rotting Smell Lung cancer is known to produce a certain odor in the breath that is often described as a rotting smell. Therefore, if your breath has changed and is smelling of something rotten, it’s time to visit the doctor.

6. Kidney Failure –
A Fishy Smell If you have a fishy smell when you exhale then it might mean that you have kidney failure. This disease is very serious, so putting off visiting the doctor is out of the question.

7. Lactose Intolerance – Sour Milk Smell
A sour milk smell is a definite sign of lactose intolerance, meaning your body can’t break down the protein in milk. Other symptoms include cramping and diarrhea.

8. Liver Failure –
Moldy and Sweet Smell A sweet mold-like smell means that your liver is not working well. Another symptom of this condition is the yellowing of your skin and the whites of your eyes. If you notice this, schedule an appointment with your doctor immediately.

 9. Tonsil Stones –
Dirty Diaper Smell Tonsil stones accumulate in your throat on the tonsils, giving you breath that some people described as smelling like dirty diapers. One way to treat this condition is to visit a doctor – they’ll use a special medical instrument to get rid of the calcium and bacteria that has accumulated in your tonsils.

8 Early Signs of Stomach Cancer

Stomach cancer is a serious disease that causes great suffering and may end in death, but as many other types of cancer can be solved and treated effectively and quickly thanks to early detection, so can this type. The main problem in the case of stomach cancer is that despite the many pains that the disease causes, in its early stages it does not bring pain at all, and therefore it is difficult to detect.

Therefore, it is very important to pay attention to the various signs that our body emits, which are not necessarily manifested in pain, but in other health phenomena that may signal to us that there is a development of a cancerous mass in our stomach and that we should get tested as soon as possible to enable early detection and treatment. In the next article, we will provide you with details and information about stomach cancer and list 8 signs that you should pay attention to, which can arouse suspicion that the disease is developing in your body.

What is stomach cancer, and how is it treated?
Stomach cancer is a common disease that occurs in 1 in 111 people who may develop a cancerous tumor in their stomach during their lifetime, and this is most common among men aged 60-70. The cancerous tumor usually develops in the area of the stomach tissue, and its main cause is the bacterium Helicobacter pylori, which is responsible for 60% of the spread of the disease in the world. The main risk factors for this cancer are smoking, the development of a stomach ulcer and eating a lot of smoked food. At the same time, it is important to emphasize that in the end, the direct causes of the disease are random mutations that occur during cell division, therefore there is a dimension of randomness in the recurrence of the disease, and it can also occur regardless of smoking or eating certain foods. Stomach cancer is treated by surgically removing the tumor, but this is only possible in the early stages of the disease when the tumor is still localized, small and has not yet spread to the lymph node or nearby organs. There is still no treatment for the late stages after the spread, and the disease is considered incurable. That is why it is very important to pay attention to the following 8 signs so that cancer can be detected at the earliest stage.

8 signs of developing stomach cancer

1. Frequent and persistent stomach pains
Abdominal pain is a common and very not uncommon thing, which happens to people on an almost daily basis and does not indicate cancer at all, but when the abdominal pain becomes sharp, frequent and more and more persistent, there is room for suspicion. Even if most of the time the source of the pain turns out to be an illness or other health problem in the stomach, these symptoms should not be taken for granted, because sometimes severe pain can indicate the development of a mass in the stomach. The signs that the pains are due to the development of cancer include the persistence of the pains over time and a feeling that a kind of "grinding" is going on in your stomach. It is not about something that you will suddenly feel one day, but pains that last more than two weeks in a way that goes on and on.

2. Rapid loss of appetite
One potential indication of the onset of stomach cancer is a sudden and significant loss of appetite. This may occur when you feel hungry and begin to eat, but quickly lose your desire to continue after just a few bites, finding the taste unappealing. Experts refer to this as early satiety, which can be a warning sign of a serious issue, such as a cancerous growth. If you normally feel full relatively quickly, there is likely no cause for concern. However, if this is a new occurrence, it is recommended that you seek medical attention to rule out any potential health problems. stomach cancer woman eating.

3. Blood in vomit or feces
If blood is observed in the stool, it could be a signal of various digestive and stomach conditions, and it may even increase the chance of developing cancer. It is recommended to seek medical attention without delay. Although blood in feces or vomit could also indicate issues like stomach ulcers or Crohn's disease, it is essential to differentiate between them. In the event of stomach cancer, the blood found in feces will be burgundy or dark black due to the stomach enzymes. On the other hand, the blood accompanying vomit secretions resulting from stomach cancer will be granular in texture and bright red in color since it has been partly digested. Unexplained weight loss is another symptom that requires attention.

4. Unexplained drop in weight
Losing weight unexpectedly can be a result of various health problems, such as Addison's disease, type 1 diabetes, Crohn's disease, and stomach cancer. Therefore, if you notice a decrease in your weight even if you are not following any diet, it is crucial to consult a doctor for proper examination and treatment. It is essential to note that weight loss may occur gradually rather than suddenly. However, if you have lost more than 5-6 kilograms in six months without any dietary changes or increased physical activity, it is a matter of concern and needs to be checked. Additionally, continuous heartburn can also be a symptom of some underlying health issues.

5. Incessant heartburn
Annoying and incessant heartburn can be a clear sign of the development of a cancerous mass in the stomach. There are many explanations and reasons for the development of heartburn, and they in themselves are far from being a product of stomach cancer only, but if they persist for a long time, are very painful and do not stop, it is necessary to contact a specialist, consult and check the cause of this symptom.

6. Increased fatigue
One of the general signs that can indicate the development of a cancerous mass in your body is increased fatigue and lack of energy that do not go away even after a good night's sleep. In the case of stomach cancer, this fatigue occurs due to a lot of loss of blood and fluids, mainly due to bloody stool secretions. If, in addition to the various symptoms we have mentioned here, you also suffer from increased fatigue and a general decrease in function, contact your doctor immediately to check and diagnose whether you are ill.

7. Bloating, diarrhea and constipation
When a cancerous tumor develops in the stomach, it is likely to cause bloating and issues with bowel movements. While experiencing just one of these symptoms may not necessarily indicate cancer and could be caused by other factors, if you experience a combination of these symptoms along with others mentioned in the list, it is important to seek medical attention and undergo an examination to rule out the possibility of cancer.

8. Difficulties swallowing
Stomach cancer may cause more than one symptom, including rapid loss of appetite, bloating, and difficulty swallowing, which is a common indication of this type of cancer. Difficulty swallowing is evident in the inability to swallow food while eating, regurgitation of food after swallowing, and intense nausea. The swallowing process requires many muscles, and if the tumor develops on the stomach's muscular layer or affects the nerves that connect to those muscles, it can lead to difficulty in swallowing, which is a significant sign of stomach cancer.
