14 Things Ob-Gyns Desperately Wish You Knew About Ovarian Cancer

The early symptoms of ovarian cancer are easily missed, so getting educated is the best thing you can do to protect yourself!

Ovarian cancer is often mistaken for stomach problems

“Early symptoms of ovarian cancer tend to be subtle. Bloating, constipation, stomach pain, irregular bleeding, pelvic pressure, and even a sensation of ‘feeling full’ after eating little are all early signs but women often ignore these, writing them off as gastrointestinal problems, or try to self-treat rather than seeking medical attention.

Birth control pills and babies are your friends

“Some of the biggest risk factors for ovarian cancer are associated with how often you ovulate. The more you ovulate, the more at risk you are for ovarian cancer.  So women who have have never had a child, never used the birth control pills, started menstruating early, and/or experienced menopause after the age of 55 are at a higher risk and should have more frequent check-ups.” —Sherry Ross, MD, women’s health expert at Providence Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, CA

There is no good test for detecting ovarian cancer

"When it comes to ovarian cancer, unfortunately there's no reliable universal screening method (like the Pap test is for cervical cancer) and the symptoms can be vague and confused with many other illnesses. The best approach is to have a thorough yearly exam, which may include a pelvic ultrasound to better evaluate the ovaries for any abnormalities. Furthermore, women with a family history of either breast or ovarian cancer should discuss genetic testing to better understand their chances of developing these cancers. If a woman has a genetic predisposition for these cancers, there are prophylactic procedures that can greatly reduce the chances of getting these cancers and increased surveillance can be instituted. As with all cancers, early detection is always best."

Ovarian cancer is rare but deadly

"The American Cancer Society estimates that in the United States in 2016 about 22,280 women will get a new diagnosis of ovarian cancer. More than half of these—about 14,240 of our mothers, sisters, aunts, daughters, neighbors, co-workers and friends—will die of the disease. Ovarian cancer, though a relatively rare cancer, ranks fifth in cancer deaths of women."

You can help your family

"Because ovarian cancer can be hereditary all women with ovarian cancer should have genetic testing.  If you have a BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation, encourage all your first-degree relatives (like sisters or daughters) to have their genetic testing done. Through genetic testing we can prevent up to 20 percent of all ovarian cancer cases today by identifying those who are at a high risk."

It's not an automatic death sentence

Many people think that we are not making progress in our fight against ovarian cancer but we are. Over the past 30 years treatments have gotten much more effective and are better tolerated. Nowadays women are living longer and better lives. We have a lot of work still to do, but we are making headway against this very aggressive disease. "

It's linked to colon cancer

"Recent research has shown that a family history of colon cancer could put you at risk for an increased risk of both ovarian and uterine cancer.  It's important to seek genetic counseling and talk to your doctor if you have a family history of these cancers."

Don't underestimate the power of exercise and a healthy diet

"Overall worrying about ovarian cancer should be low on your list of worries. It is a scary disease but focusing on staying healthy through proper diet and exercise will not only lower your risk of getting ovarian cancer but it can help lower the risk of getting all cancer and protect you from heart disease, which is the leading cause of death in women in the United States."

Ovarian cancer is often not caught until it's at stage 3

"Because of where the ovaries are located in the abdomen and the fact there are no effective screening tests to diagnose ovarian cancer at an earlier stage, it is often not caught until a late stage in the disease. In fact, ovarian cancer is usually not symptomatic until the ovarian mass is large or until other organs are affected. It is important for women to be aware of symptoms of ovarian cancer, including abdominal fullness or bloating, early satiety (feeling full quickly when eating), and urinary complaints. While none of these are ovarian-specific, they are worrisome and warrant an evaluation."

This is why your yearly gynecology exam is so important

"Symptoms of early-stage ovarian cancer are commonly overlooked. In fact, a survey found 76 percent of women are not confident they could even identify symptoms of ovarian cancer. It is critical for women to have an annual visit to the doctor and discuss any and all symptoms they may be experiencing, particularly if those symptoms are persistent or a change from the norm."

Sometimes a burp isn't just a burp

"The high death rate of ovarian cancer is due, at least in part, to the vague, nonspecific symptoms that are experienced in the early stages. Bloating, pelvic, or abdominal pain and urinary symptoms are often the chief complaints. My sister, who passed away from the illness, primarily complained of painful gas. She began to try to burp or pass gas no matter where we were as it gave her such relief that social norms became an afterthought. Yet cancer would be very low on most physicians’ list of possibilities for a woman complaining of belching and flatulence. This is why if you feel something is wrong, it's important to be insistent and persistent in advocating for your health."

You need to see a specialist

"If you are diagnosed with ovarian cancer, ask to be referred to a specialist. Studies show that seeing an ovarian cancer specialist (such as a gynecologic oncologist) leads to significantly better survival and outcomes.  In a recent publication this year with nearly 8,000 women, less than half received optimal surgery and chemotherapy.  There may be many reasons for this, but I think a big one is the lack of awareness that experts exist and seeing one early can make a big, big difference."

Consider this one more reason to maintain a healthy weight

"Heredity is not destiny. Only about 10 percent of ovarian cases are due to genetic mutations, which means 90 percent of ovarian cancer cases are preventable.  And even in that 10 percent of cases that are "hereditary" the risk can be significantly reduced by lifestyle choices which are 100 percent under your control. Because obesity is a major risk factor, losing weight can help protect you."

You have options besides surgery

"Surgery is the mainstay of initial treatment but all newly diagnosed patients with ovarian cancer should see a gynecologic oncologist to determine what treatment plan is best for them. For some, biological or medical treatments might be used prior or in addition to having surgery."

Various ways to use onions in treating and preventing health issues

Onion is one vegetable that is either loved by some or hated by some. It is extensively used in some cooking, including salads. Some feel eating onion makes you breath smell bad like eating garlic. Surely when it is properly cooked or even in salads when there is lime juice or other salad dressing, it overcomes its strong smell.

The impressive health benefits of onions include their ability to treat and prevent cancer, heart disorders, and diabetes. They also treat the common cold, asthma, bacterial infections, respiratory problems, angina and cough.

The antibacterial properties of onion include extensive anti-fungal applications, which have made it a household name in anti-fungal relief. Onion plants can be grown in well-drained and moist soil. You can even grow it in your backyard or garden to reap its health benefits. Onions form an important part of many culinary preparations in cuisines around the world and they are also known as ‘companion plants’, which means that they grow well around other vegetables and plants.

Onions have been known to possess curative value since ancient times. Even the WHO confirms that they are beneficial for people with a reduced appetite and those suffering from atherosclerosis. Health experts acknowledge the fact that onions provide great respite for patients with chronic asthma, allergic bronchitis, and common cold-related cough syndromes.

Onions have many valuable medicinal applications because of the nutrients, vitamins, minerals and organic compounds contained in them. These include the presence of sulfuric compounds and quercetin too. These vegetables also contain minerals such as calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, selenium, and phosphorus, and they are a good source of Vitamins C and  B 3 and dietary fibre too.

Health Benefits of Onions

Oral Care

Onions are often used to prevent tooth decay and oral infections. Chewing raw onions for 2 to 3 minutes can potentially kill all the germs present in the oral area and surrounding areas like the throat and lips.

Boost Immunity

The phytochemicals present in significant amounts in onions act as stimulants for vitamin C within the body. Vitamin C boosts your immune system by fighting against toxins and various foreign bodies that can lead to diseases and illness.

Treat Heart Ailments

Onions act as anticoagulants, also known as blood thinners, which prevent the red blood cells from forming clumps. According to a report by a Dr., that use of certain formulations of garlic and/or onion is positively linked to preventing and treating atherosclerotic disease. These blocks and clots can lead to heart disorders or cardiovascular diseases.

Manage Diabetes

Onions contain chromium, which is a relatively unusual mineral to be found naturally in food. Chromium helps the body manage blood sugar levels and ensures a slow, gradual release of glucose to the muscles and body cells. Furthermore, in a research published, it was found that onion juice, when given to diabetics along with their food, helped control hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) effectively. Therefore, eating them can help modulate the blood sugar levels, which is vital for diabetic patients.

Used as Insect Repellent

You can apply onion juice to reduce the pain caused by honeybee stings. Fresh onion juice or paste can be used for external applications on insect bites and scorpion stings. The smell of onions also causes insects to flee, which is why they can be used as insect repellents as well as a form of sting treatment.

Prevent Cancer

Onions are rich in active compounds that successfully inhibit the development and spread of cancerous cells. They have a significant amount of quercetin, which is a very powerful antioxidant, consistently linked to the prevention or reduction of the spread of cancer. Studies published showed that consumption of vegetables like onions and garlic which belong to the Allium family help prevent cancers, particularly cancers of the gastrointestinal tract.
Vitamin C, present in onions, is also a strong antioxidant that can reduce the presence and impact of free radicals in the body. Free radicals are the chemical by-products of cellular metabolism, and they can cause healthy cells to mutate into cancerous cells. Therefore, any food rich in antioxidants, which neutralize these free radicals, is beneficial for everyone.

Relieve Earaches

A few drops of onion juice may prove immensely beneficial to individuals suffering from an acute earache. The ringing sound in the ear may be cured by applying onion juice through a piece of cotton wool.

Skin Care

Onion juice mixed with honey or olive oil is said to be the best treatment for treating symptoms or signs of acne. It is also anti-inflammatory in nature, so the active compounds can reduce the redness and swelling that is commonly associated with skin conditions like acne. Onions also help reduce the associated pain and inflammation of conditions like gout and arthritis.

Treat Cough

Consuming an equal mixture of onion juice and honey can relieve sore throats and coughing symptoms. I've been making my own cough syrup, for which I finely chop an onion, then in a small container with a lid, I put a layer of onion, then sugar, repeat layers like that, if you've apple cider vinegar, you can add that too. Keep sipping the syrup that comes, you can add more sugar/ honey and ACV. I found this cough syrup works better than store bought, as the sulfur helps to relieve the inflammation and open your

Boost Sexual Drive

Onions are said to increase the urge for a healthy sex life. One tablespoon of onion juice along with one spoonful of ginger  juice, taken three times a day, can boost libido and sex drive.

Treat Anemia

Even anemic conditions can be improved by eating onions along with jaggery( molasses) and water because this adds to the mineral content of the body, especially iron, which is an essential part of producing new red blood cells. Therefore, anemia, also known as iron deficiency, can be prevented by including onion in your diet.

Relieve Stomach Aches

Onions have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties that can relieve an upset stomach and related gastric syndromes. This is due to the saponins that are found in them. These saponins have anti-spasmodic capabilities, which ensure that stomach disturbances do not continue and that your bowels are clear and smoothly functioning.

Treat Urinary Disorders

For those suffering  from a burning sensation during urination, onions can provide considerable relief. People suffering from this condition should drink boiled water with 6 to 7 grams of onions.
According to experts, onions have long been used for treating various diseases such as tumors, persistent cough, and cold. Medical practitioners consider this plant form as a perfect home remedy for relieving various metabolic disorders and diseases. Researchers further state that onion consumption can even help in the prevention of stomach and breast cancer.

Relieve Asthma

Medical studies have revealed that these sulfuric compounds stop biochemical chain formations that possibly lead to asthmatic conditions. The sulfuric content of onions facilitates the melting of phlegm in a patient suffering from severe coughing. Fresh onion juice is recommended for patients, who have lost consciousness, because of its aroma and inhalant qualities, which can induce immediate vigor and energy.

For soothing a baby. Onion tea can relax muscles and settle the baby’s stomach with ease.

To fight hair loss. In home medicine, onions are used for hair care. Its antibacterial properties help to cope with dandruff, stop hair loss and promote their growth. Just make a decoction of onion peel and apply it to the hair before each washing.

To clear up Chest Congestion. Onion is one of the best products to relieve congestion in the chest. It contains quercetin and sulfur, both of which help to loosen and eliminate mucus from the chest, facilitate breathing and provide relief from congestion in the chest.

Heal cuts. Onions are very useful for healing of small wounds, cuts, skin cracks. You can disinfect a small wound or cut, and also speed up the healing process.

Soothe bug bites. Onions have anti-inflammatory and refreshing properties that make it an excellent remedy for pain and irritation after an insect bite. Just apply pieces of onion to the affected areas of the skin from time to time to get rid of discomfort and speed up the healing process. Also, onion juice can lubricate the skin to scare off annoying mosquitoes and wasps.

Fighting Nausea. Regular consumption of onions in food will help to normalize and improve the digestion. The fact is that onions contain soluble fiber, which promotes the growth of beneficial bacteria in the intestines, and also helps prevent and cope with diarrhea. In addition, lovers of this vegetable are much less likely to suffer from a stomach ulcer.

For sore throat. Cook the onion husks in water and add honey to soften the sore throat. Remove the husks before taking the drink.

Purifying the air using onions. Onion perfectly absorbs toxic odors. Just cut the bulb into several pieces, put it on a plate and leave it in a room where there is an unpleasant smell and soon there will be no trace left of it. In addition, onion perfectly kills bacteria, so its pieces can be laid out around the apartment during periods of epidemics.

Treating sunburns. In order to avoid inflammation after a sunburn, massage the necessary skin areas with a slice of fresh onion. The sulfur compounds contained in it will speed up all regeneration processes and reduce burning and redness.

To reduce fever. This is the best solution for high body temperature. Put onion slices in socks as a treatment for high body temperature. You will be surprised seeing the results.

Treat diabetes to a degree. Eating sambar( small) onion by diabetics is more than justified. It helps to increase the level of insulin in the blood and reduces blood sugar level.

To prevent catching cold and fever- Cut a big onion into several pieces and put in a small container and keep it in the room where you spend maximum amount of time. At first, it will irritate your eyes, then you'ld get used to it. Let the container with onion remain in the room for 4-5 days, if it turns black, it means, it has absorbed all the bad bacteria. Then without touching throw it in the bin. I've using this to prevent getting fever and cold and has found it works. You ought to do before you get fever or cold, at the first symptoms you should cut an onion and keep. This is the reason, they say, never cut an onion and keep for long before you use in cooking, as it absorbs the bacteria.

15 Cancer Symptoms to Know

Changes in Your Skin

A new spot on your skin or one that changes size, shape, or color could be a sign of skin cancer. Another is a spot that doesn't look the same as all the others on your body. If you have any unusual marks, have your doctor check your skin. She will do an exam and may remove a small piece (called a biopsy) to take a closer look for cancer cells.

Nagging Cough

If you don't smoke, there's very little chance a nagging cough is a sign of cancer. Usually, it's caused by postnasal drip, asthma, acid reflux, or an infection. But if yours doesn't go away or you cough up blood -- especially if you are a smoker -- see your doctor.  She may test mucus from your lungs or do a chest X-ray to check for lung cancer.

Breast Changes

Most breast changes are not cancer. It's still important, though, to tell your doctor about them and have her check them out. Let her know about any lumps, nipple changes or discharge, redness or thickening, or pain in your breasts. She'll do an exam and may suggest a mammogram, MRI, or maybe a biopsy.

Bloating

You may have a full, bloated feeling because of your diet or even stress. But if it doesn't get better or you also have fatigue, weight loss, or back pain, have it checked out. Constant bloating in women may be a sign of ovarian cancer. Your doctor can do a pelvic exam to look for the cause.

Problems When You Pee

Many men have urinary issues as they get older, like the need to go more often, leaks, or a weak stream. Usually, these are signs of an enlarged prostate, but they could also mean prostate cancer. See your doctor for an exam and maybe a special blood test called a PSA test.

Swollen Lymph Nodes

You have these small, bean-shaped glands in your neck, armpits, and other places in your body. When they're swollen, it often means you're fighting an infection like a cold or strep throat. Some cancers like lymphoma and leukemia can also cause this kind of swelling. Talk to your doctor to pinpoint the cause.

Blood When You Use the Bathroom

If you see blood in the toilet after you go, it's a good idea to talk to your doctor. Bloody stool is likely to come from swollen, inflamed veins called hemorrhoids, but there's a chance it could be colon cancer. Blood in your pee could be a problem like a urinary tract infection, but it may be kidney or bladder cancer.

Testicle Changes

If you notice a lump or swelling in your testicles, you need to see your doctor right away. A painless lump is the most common sign of testicular cancer. Sometimes though, a man may just have a heavy feeling in his lower belly or scrotum or think his testicles feel larger. Your doctor will do a physical exam of the area and may use an ultrasound scan to see if there is a tumor or another problem.

Trouble Swallowing

The common cold, acid reflux, or even some medicine can make it hard to swallow once in a while. If it doesn’t get better with time or with antacids, see your doctor. Trouble swallowing can also be a sign of cancer in your throat or the pipe between your mouth and stomach, called the esophagus. Your doctor will do an exam and some tests like a barium X-ray, in which you swallow a chalky fluid to show your throat more clearly on the image.

Unusual Vaginal Bleeding

Bleeding that's not part of your usual period can have many causes, like fibroids or even some types of birth control. But tell your doctor if you're bleeding between periods, after sex, or have bloody discharge. She'll want to rule out cancer of the uterus, cervix, or vagina. Be sure to let her know if you are bleeding after menopause. That's not normal and should be checked out right away.

Mouth Issues

From bad breath to canker sores, most changes in your mouth aren't serious. But if you have white or red patches or sores in your mouth that don't heal after a couple of weeks -- especially if you smoke -- see your doctor. It may be a sign of oral cancer. Other things to look for: a lump in your cheek, trouble moving your jaw, or mouth pain.

Weight Loss

Of course you can slim down when you change the way you eat or exercise. It can also happen if you have other issues, like stress or a thyroid problem. But it’s not normal to lose 10 pounds or more without trying. There's a chance it could be a first sign of cancer of the pancreas, stomach, esophagus, lung, or other type of cancer.

Fever

A fever isn't usually a bad thing. Sometimes it's just a sign that your body is fighting an infection. It can also be a side effect of some medicines. But one that won't go away and doesn't have an obvious cause could be a sign of a blood cancer like leukemia or lymphoma.

Heartburn or Indigestion

Almost everyone has this burning feeling sometimes, often because of their diet or stress. If lifestyle changes don't work and your indigestion doesn't stop, your doctor may want to do some tests to look for a cause. It could be a sign of stomach cancer.

Fatigue

A lot of things can make you very tired, and most of them aren’t serious. But fatigue is one early sign of some cancers, like leukemia. Some colon and stomach cancers can cause blood loss that you can't see, which can make you feel very tired. If you're wiped out all the time and rest doesn't help, talk to your doctor.

Relieve Urinary Problems Naturally

If you are a male aged 50 or over, chances are you know someone taking medication for an overgrown prostate gland, better known as benign prostatis hyperplasia (BPH). This condition can cause bothersome problems including frequent urination at night, as well as difficulty completely emptying the bladder, and the urgent need to urinate at inconvenient times. BPH triggers noticeable problems in a third of men in their 60s and nearly half of those in their 80s. Drug therapy is often used to relieve symptoms, and for severe problems, surgery may be considered. But in the case of men with milder symptoms, BPH may not interfere with their daily lives much, so another option will be watchful waiting.

During watchful waiting, you and your doctor monitor your symptoms closely and take action only when you feel it is necessary. Till then, simple changes in behavior can help to take the edge off urinary symptoms. This approach avoids the costs and risks associated with more aggressive treatment.

Do you have BPH?
Irritative symptoms (problems with bladder function) include:
  • Frequent urination during the day or night
  • Strong and sudden urge to urinate, sometimes with involuntary leaking of urine.
Obstructive symptoms (problems with the flow of urine) include:
  • Difficulty starting urination
  • Straining to urinate
  • Incomplete bladder emptying
  • Weak or intermittent urine stream
  • Dribbling after urination.                        What is BPH?
The prostate gland may begin to grow larger over time in many men. The urethra is the tube that conveys urine from the bladder to outside the body. It passes right through the prostate, so it doesn't take much prostate growth to make urination difficult. As the bladder works against the restriction, its muscular walls begin to thicken which can cause problems like the need for more frequent visits to the bathroom and difficulty fully emptying the bladder.
For some men, the symptoms of BPH don't demand immediate treatment. However, it is important to ask yourself questions like 'How much do your symptoms bother you?' Determining whether it is getting in the way of doing the things you want to do should be the primary driver of treatment.
    How bothersome is it?
To measure the frequency of a man's symptoms, doctors use the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS). It's a seven-item questionnaire that delves into typical BPH symptoms, providing a score from 0 to 35. Typically, men who score 8 and above are more likely to think they need treatment - but this can vary from man to man.
Nevertheless, for men who choose to watch and wait, it doesn't mean doing nothing. It should include strategies to lessen symptoms or make them easier to cope with. In one study, men who attended classes on such self-management techniques lowered their IPSS symptom scores by 6 points within three months.
Living with BPH and managing urinary symptoms
BPH progresses slowly, so most men can decide for themselves if and when they would like to consider medication or surgery. In most cases, men with mild to moderate symptoms often find that changes in fluid intake, medication use, and bladder habits can relieve BPH's bothersome effects. Let's take a look:
    1. Medication Use
    • Alter the use of medications that may potentially worsen urinary symptoms.
    • Be sure to talk to your doctor about any medications that may contribute to BPH. Note that antihistamines and decongestants can cause problems for some.
    • Don't take medications that may cause you to urinate more right before driving, traveling, attending an event, or going to bed.
    • Don't rely on ineffective dietary supplements.
    2. Fluid restriction
    • Change how much fluid you drink and when you drink it to prevent bothersome bathroom visits.
    • Don't drink fluids before driving, traveling or attending events where finding a bathroom will be difficult.
    • Avoid caffeine and alcoholic beverages after dinner or within two hours of your bedtime.
    3. Bladder habits
    • Change the time and manner in which you empty your bladder to reduce symptoms or make them less disruptive.
    • Don't hold it in. Be sure to empty your bladder when you first get the urge to.
    • When out in public, go to the bathroom and try to urinate when you get the chance, even if you don't feel the need.
    • Take your time when urinating, emptying your bladder as much as possible.
    • After each time you urinate, try again right away.
    • Try urethral milking, this will prevent post-void dribbling. Gently squeeze the base of the penis after urinating and work your way outward to force urine out of the urethra.

10 Great Health Benefits of Limes

1. Skin Care
Lime rejuvenates the skin and protects it from infection. Furthermore, it also helps to decrease body odor due to the presence of vitamin C and flavonoids. Both lime juice and lime essential oil are high in antioxidants and have antibiotic and disinfectant properties.
When applied to the skin, its acids scrub out dead cells and cure dandruff, bruises, and rashes. It can also be used to create a refreshing bathing experience if its juice or oil is added to your bath.
2. Treats Scurvy
Lime is a well-known cure for scurvy, a disease that is caused due to a vitamin C deficiency. It’s characterized by frequent infections that show up as normal cold symptoms, cracked lips, and ulcers on the tongue and in the mouth. You may also have spongy, swollen, and bleeding gums.
In the past, sailors and soldiers were given limes to protect them from scurvy, which was a potentially fatal disease back then. Even now, limes are distributed among those who work in polluted environments such as furnaces, painting shops, mines, and cement factories to protect them from scurvy. A moderate intake of vitamin C can be gained from limes and can help keep you away from scurvy.
3. Relieves Constipation
The amount of acid present in limes helps to clear the excretory system by washing and cleaning the tracts, just like some acids are used to clean toilets and floors. The roughage in the lime is also helpful in easing constipation. An overdose of lime juice with salt also acts as an excellent purgative without any side effects, thereby relieving constipation.
4. Aids in Digestion
Lime has an irresistible odour that causes your mouth to water and this aids in primary digestion. The natural acidity of the lime does the rest. While the acids break down the macro-molecules of the food, the flavonoids, the compounds which are found in the fragrant oils extracted from limes, stimulate the digestive system and increase secretion of bile, digestive juices, and acids. This flood of flavonoids also stimulates peristaltic motion.

5. Manages Diabetes
According to the researchers, limes (and other citrus fruits) are a superfoods for those suffering from diabetes for a number of reasons. Mainly, the high levels of soluble fiber found in limes make them ideal at regulating the body’s absorption of sugar into the bloodstream, reducing the occurrence of blood sugar spikes that are a serious risk to diabetic patients. Furthermore, limes have a low glycemic index, which means they will not cause an unexpected spike in glucose levels.
6. Prevents Heart Disease
That same soluble fiber which can help diabetics maintain their blood sugar levels can also decrease blood pressure and eliminate the presence of LDL cholesterol. To add to this, soluble fiber can cut down inflammation in the blood vessels, which is a known preventative against heart disease, heart attacks, and strokes.
7. Treats Respiratory Disorders
The flavonoid-rich oil that can be extracted from limes is extensively used in anti-congestive medicines such as balms, inhalers, and vaporizers due to the presence of kaempferol. Just scratching the peel of a lime and inhaling it can give immediate relief from congestion and nausea.
8. Treats Gout
There are two main causes of gout. The first is the accumulation of free radicals in the body, and the second is an accumulation of toxins in the body, primarily uric acid. Limes can help to prevent both of these causes. They are a wonderful source of antioxidants and detoxifiers which reduce the number of free radicals as well as detoxify the body.
9. Treats Arthritis
One of the many causes of arthritis is an excess build-up of uric acid in the body. This is waste product that normal urination usually clears out the body, but unfortunately, when too much of it builds up, it can make the pain and inflammation from arthritis a lot worse.
The citric acid that is found in limes is a solvent in which uric acid can dissolve, increasing the amount that is eliminated in the urine. Citrus fruits, in general, have anti-inflammatory properties and can be used for a range of inflammatory issues.
10. Treats Urinary Disorders
The high potassium content in limes is very effective at removing toxic substances and the precipitates deposited in the kidney and bladder. This disinfectant property of lime also helps to cure infections in the urinary system. Furthermore, it stops prostate growth and clears blockages of urine caused by the build-up of calcium in the urinary tract.
