Are you a cardiac patient who experiences exercise-induced chest pain? You may not need a stent implant

Stents have been the saviour for many cardiac patients experiencing chest pain. But a landmark study presented at the American Heart Association’s annual meeting in Philadelphia, suggests that inserting stents might be unnecessary in some of these cases. It points out that medication along with lifestyle changes may be enough for managing exercise-induced chest pain patients suffering from heart diseases.

What is exercise-induced chest pain?

Exercise increases our body’s oxygen requirement. Meeting this requirement during a workout session gets hard for heart patients at times, which causes chest pain. There are different types of heart diseases. Focus group of this study included patients with ischemic heart disease. In this condition the patients have plaque buildup in their coronary arteries which transport blood to the heart. Accumulation of plaque narrows the arteries down making it difficult for the arteries to pump blood, especially during an exercise. This causes chest pain and the condition is called angina. However, it subsides when the patients rest. In the medical fraternity, this is known as stable angina. Though this condition isn’t considered as a medical emergency, it requires a cardiologist’s attention for sure.

What does the new research say?

So far, doctors have been recommending stent procedure in case of exercise-induced chest pain caused by shortage of blood supply to the heart. This is because lack of blood supply to the cardiac muscles may lead to death. However, findings of the new study suggest that doctors need to rethink their approach as medications such as aspirin and drugs can treat these exercise-induced chest pains simply by managing high cholesterol levels. Cholesterol is a fat-like substance that promotes plaque build-up. The study looked at 5,179 patients in 37 countries. The results showed that blood pressure drugs such as ACE inhibitors and beta blockers taken for high cholesterol can work just as effectively. For this condition, the study also recommended lifestyle modifications like weight loss initiatives, cutting down saturated fat and quitting smoking.

Stent procedure and its complications

Inserting stent in the heart arteries or any other part of the body is a surgical procedure. It comes with all the complications of any surgical intervention. A slight slack or mistake by the doctor can prove to be dangerous. Moreover, the stent metal can also lead to an allergic reaction. Other complications associated with inserting a stent are internal bleeding, infection, breathing problems due to anesthesia, blood clots and re-narrowing of the artery.

Lifestyle modifications for exercise-induced chest pain

The cornerstone of managing exercise-induced chest pain is medication. However, as the new research already mentioned, lifestyle modification is also important in handling the condition. If you are a smoker, it is essential to join a smoking cessation programme as the link between this habit and coronary artery issues is well-established. Your body weight can be a significant contributing factor behind angina. Consult a nutritionist for proper dietary guidelines. She may advise reducing overall fat intake, and including a lot of fruits and vegetables in your meals among others.

Inhaling chemicals to get high can be fatal

A 19-year-old recovering drug addict died after inhaling deodorant in an attempt to get high, doctors who treated him in the Netherlands have revealed in a case report to highlight the fatal consequences of inhaling chemicals.
Doctors told the story of the unnamed teenager in a stark warning to people of the dangers of sniffing solvents. The teen, believed to have been in Rotterdam in the Netherlands, died after his heart stopped and he could not be revived by paramedics.

The patient, who had a history of psychotic symptoms, was in rehab for his cannabis and ketamine use when he relapsed and looked for a different way to intoxicate himself.
He placed a towel over his head and inhaled deodorant spray, which can quickly make users feel light-headed, dizzy and happy, according to the report published in the  medical journal.

He soon became hyperactive and started jumping up and down before blood flow stopped suddenly, causing him to go into cardiac arrest and collapse, the report said. The teenager was admitted to the hospital and placed in a medically induced coma when staff failed to revive him.

The "patient did not have enough brain function to sustain life", said the Dr. Nine days after he was admitted, doctors withdrew care and the man died.

Such cases are "very rare", the Dr. said, adding that because deaths from deodorant inhalation were not common among the general population the consequences weren't really known, causing people to continue this dangerous behaviour.

There were three theories about what caused the cardiac arrest, the Dr. said: The inhalant could have over-sensitized the patient's heart, which can make any subsequent stress, like getting caught by a parent, cause cardiac arrest.

Also, inhalants decrease the strength of contraction of the heart muscle. Another possibility was that inhalants can cause spasm of the coronary arteries.

The group most affected by solvent abuse was 15 to 19 year olds, studies show. People in rehabilitation centres or prisons were more likely to abuse household products, the report added, meaning there could be a greater risk of cardiac deaths in these environments.

The medics warned that young people with a history of drug abuse were at particularly high risk of harming themselves this way because many common household items can be used.

'The main toxic substance in deodorant spray inhalation is butane,' the medics explained. It is often used in sprayable household products and has a similar effect to alcohol.

Other health effects of inhalants included liver and kidney damage, hearing loss, delayed behavioural development and brain damage.

Very Important, EGG is good for cancer too

1.   Eggs are among the best foods for the body especially to a growing child.

2.   Eggs do not cause an elevation of blood cholesterol.

3.   Eggs do not clog up the coronary vessels as once thought. In fact the opposite is now true.

4.   Eggs are low in energy value, and is a factor to consider in the formulation of a caloric-restriction diet.

5.   Eggs protein quality is extremely high, and has a very high nitrogen-retention value. Hence it is extremely useful in post-surgical care, trauma, and in post-management of hypovolemic shock against negative nitrogen balance.

6.   Eggs contain vitamin D in its natural form. The benefits of vitamin D require several chapters on human nutrition in medicine to discuss.

7.   Eggs are cancer-protective, especially for breast cancer.

8.   Eggs are very rich in sulfur-containing amino acids methionine which is a very crucial amino-acid in blocking damaging free radicals. These are directly linked to the pathogenesis of heart disease, cancers, DNA damage, all degenerative disorders, and accelerated aging.

9.   Eggs protect against fatty liver, slow growth, macular degeneration (degeneration of the macula area of the retina in the eyes. This is responsible for central vision for reading, face recognition and detailed vision), edema (water retention), and various skin lesions

10.   Eggs promote healthy growth of nails, hair and skin.

11.   Eggs are rich in tryptophan, selenium, iodine, and riboflavin (vitamin B2).

12.   Eggs selenium content is cardio-protective against Keshan disease, cardiomyopathies (diseases involving the heart muscles, cardiomegaly (enlarged heart), myocardial dysfunction (poor heart function) and death from heart failure.

13.   Eggs are protective against Kashin-Beck disease (osteoarthropathy), myxedematous endemic cretinism (mental retardation).

Heart's own stem cells may help treat heart failure

Scientists have for the first time highlighted the natural regenerative capacity of a group of

stem cells that reside in the heart.

Researchers  found that these cells are responsible for repairing and regenerating muscle

tissue damaged by a heart attack which leads to heart failure.

The study showed that if the stem cells are eliminated, the heart is unable to repair after

damage.

If the cardiac stem cells are replaced the heart repairs itself, leading to complete cellular,

anatomical and functional heart recovery, with the heart returning to normal and pumping

at a regular rate.

Also, if the cardiac stem cells are removed and re-injected, they naturally 'home' to and

repair the damaged heart, a discovery that could lead to less-invasive treatments and even

early prevention of heart failure in the future.

"In a healthy heart the quantity of cardiac stem cells is sufficient to repair muscle tissue in

the heart. However, in damaged hearts many of these cells cannot multiply or produce new

muscle tissue," said a Dr.

"In these cases it could be possible to replace the damaged cardiac stem cells or add new

ones by growing them in the laboratory and administering them intravenously," they said.

"Understanding the role and potential of cardiac stems cells could pave the way for a

variety of new ways to prevent and treat heart failure," Dr. added.

"These new approaches involve maintaining or increasing the activity of cardiac stem cells

so that muscle tissue in the heart can be renewed with new heart cells, replacing old cells

or those damaged by wear and tear.

"The cardiac stem cells naturally home to the heart because the heart is their home - they

know to go there. Current practices involve major operations such as injection through the

heart's muscle wall (intramyocardial) or coronary vessels (intracoronary).

"The homing mechanism shown by our research could lead to a less invasive treatment

whereby cardiac stem cells are injected through a vein in the skin (intravenously)," she

said.

"Although an early study, our findings are very promising. Next steps include clinical trials,

due to start early 2014, aimed at assessing the effectiveness of cardiac stem cells for

preventing and treating heart failure in humans," Dr. added.

Home remedy to avoid by-pass surgery !

I cup of lime juice
1 cup of ginger juice
1 cup of garlic juice
1 cup of apple cider vinegar

boil all these together, till it reduces to 3 cups, cool it, add pure honey 3 cups, mix well, store in a sterilised bottle. daily morning before breakfast, take 1 tsp. of the mixture, continuously for a month. You won't need by-pass surgery. But those who are diabetics, pl. take care of your sugar level. This is supposed to be Ayurvedic treatment.  One thing for sure, when your body is alkaline, you reduce many health complications ( if you had one of my previous mails, then you'll know), ginger, garlic anyway have lots of health benefits, like anti-informatory, anti-cancer properties, ginger aids in digestion. So no harm in trying, if one can avoid surgery. If it helps, then be happy, or else sure no harm will be done. Diabetics or those who are allergic to any of the above ingredients, PLEASE don't try it, and blame me.
