Turmeric For Your Beauty !

Turmeric has been used since centuries not just for adding colour to your dishes, but for its various medicinal properties. Indian women are known to use it for its properties in fighting pimples, clear skin and regular use also banishes facial air. That is the reason, why my mother, maternal grandmother had hardly any hair on their bodies, as they used to scrub their bodies well with turmeric and oil at least twice a week!

1. Turmeric And Milk

One of the simplest ways to use turmeric is by mixing it with milk. The turmeric will fight free radicals and the milk will cleanse the impurities from your skin. Using this mixture on a regular basis will make your skin look young, clean, and nourished.

How To:

  • Mix 1 tablespoon of turmeric and 1 tablespoon of milk in a bowl.
  • With the tips of your fingers massage the mixture all over your face.
  • Leave it on for 20 minutes until it is dry.
  • Wash it off with water.
  • Pat dry using a clean towel.
  • Repeat this process about 3 times a week.

2. Turmeric And Oil

If the dry air is drawing out the moisture from your skin, leaving it flaky, coarse, and itchy, then a combination of turmeric and oil is perfect for your skin. Turmeric will make your skin look young and fresh, and the oil will retain its moisture and improve its elasticity. You can use olive oil, sunflower oil, or coconut oil.

How To:

  • Mix 1 tablespoon of turmeric with 1 tablespoon of oil in a bowl until you get a fine paste.
  • Massage the mixture generously over your skin.
  • Leave it on for 20 to 30 minutes.
  • Wash it off with warm water.
  • Rinse your face again with cold water to tighten the pores.
  • Repeat this process 3 times a week.

3. Turmeric, Avocado, And Yogurt

A combination of turmeric, avocado, and yogurt works well for all types of skin. Yogurt contains lactic acid which removes dead cells from your skin and helps lighten its color. The fatty acids present in avocado moisturizes and nourishes your skin. Turmeric will make your skin glow and look young.

How To:

  • Take 1/4 cups of avocado pulp.
  • Mash it until you get a smooth paste.
  • Add 1 teaspoon of turmeric and 1 tablespoon of yogurt.
  • Mix them until you get a fine paste.
  • Apply the pack evenly on your skin.
  • Leave the pack on for 20 minutes.
  • Wash it off with warm water and follow with cold water.
  • Repeat this process once or twice a week.

4. Turmeric, Yogurt, And Gram Flour

Gram flour is a natural scrub. It will remove all the dead cells from your skin, leaving it smooth and supple. Yogurt will cleanse and moisturize your skin, and turmeric will help bring out its natural glow.

How To:

  • Mix 2 tablespoons of gram flour with 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric.
  • Add 2 tablespoons of yogurt.
  • Mix the ingredients until you get a smooth paste.
  • With the tip of your fingers massage your skin using the paste.
  • Leave it on for 30 minutes and rinse it off with water.
  • Repeat this process 2 to 3 times a week.

5. Turmeric And Lemon Juice

If your skin is tanned or has dark spots, using a combination of turmeric and lemon juice will help improve the color of your skin. Lemon juice contains citric acid, which gently bleaches your skin and turmeric imparts a natural glow. Using this mixture regularly will drastically improve your skin tone.

How To:

  • Mix 1 tablespoon of turmeric and 1/2 tablespoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice in a bowl.
  • Apply this paste evenly on your face or areas with discoloration.

  • Leave it on for 20 minutes.
  • Wash it off with water.
  • Pat dry using a soft towel.
  • Repeat this process 3 times a week.
Radiant skin does not come easy unfortunately. A good skincare regimen will help you maintain youthful, supple, and evenly toned skin for a long time. Make sure that the ingredients you use are as natural as possible to avoid the harsh effects of chemicals.

TESTED AND TRIED BY ME TO SHED WEIGHT IN A SIMPLE WAY- NO MEDS !

I'm a thyroid cancer survivor, having COPD ,  with spine, knee and many more surgeries to my credit. I had severe bacterial infection due to which fluid collection was there around the heart and lungs. I was on steroid for around 18 months, when I increased my weight, It wasn't that I wasn't obese earlier.

Earlier to shed weight unscientifically, one doctor, told me to eat just 2 bread slices for lunch with some lentils and salad, no rice, no sweets of course. Though I lost weight, with this diet, once I started eating my normal food, without anything in excess, I regained my weight slowly. Then when I did my diploma in nutrition and health education, learnt that the best way to shed weight is eat 500 calories less each day, walk or exercise for 30 minutes, then in a week you can lose 1/2 kg. It will be a slow and steady way to shed weight, of course don't drink any sweet beverages, as they contain only empty calories, instead eat whole fruit, to get enough fibre and feel full. Still my weight loss was insignificant. Then I came across a turmeric tea , which I started drinking each morning in empty stomach, which has helped me to lose weight and in inches. I've a sweet tooth, I eat sweet, but a small piece only. I eat more fruits and cooked vegetables, as eating salad doesn't suit my stomach. My intake of rice has reduced, feel full with the limited quantity.

Now the real simple remedy-

water 1 glass ( I keep almost 250 ml)
cinnamon 1/2"
turmeric pdr. 1/2 tsp
ginger chopped fine 1 tsp

Put cinnamon piece in water, let it simmer for 5-7 minutes.
In a glass put turmeric pdr. and ginger, after 5-7 minutes, pour the cinnamon water over turmeric and ginger, mix well, let it rest for 10 minutes, then drink it hot.
DON'T COVER THE GLASS AFTER POURING THE WATER.

I  didn't measure, but when I told my friend( another older obese lady) she said to be sure, I'll measure. Within a week, she lost 1" around her waist. Now, I can wear some blouses which were tight for me earlier !

Try it without fear, as you'll not have any side-effect, as it has no medicine, unless you're allergic to turmeric or cinnamon or ginger, of which I've never heard so far.

It gives a feeling of fullness, this is my morning tea most of the days. I'm a foodie, I love good food, I love cooking, that is why, I've got a recipe blog too. I love baking, but I bake without eggs, using little oil or ghee with curd, milk and banana, and using millet powder or oats powdered !Then I use palm / cane sugar or jaggery ! Also mostly in my normal tea, now I use jaggery instead of refined sugar, so too when I make my oats or ragi porridge.

Those who try and find results, do let me know, thanks and good luck to all.

The Nutritional Remedies of Different Nations!

Each country has its own wisdom, collected through centuries. It can be wisdom regarding literature, the ways of human interaction, or about how to make the best pasta. It can also be about medicine. Each nation, each people, have their own remedies in which they put stock, and today, we bring you that wisdom, backed by some cold, hard scientific facts.

Sri Lanka
Coconut to battle fat

A resident of Sri Lanka eats, on average, about 116 coconuts a year, and the people living in this tropical paradise have the lowest risk of obesity in the world.

The reason? A study conducted on the topic found that consuming about 2 spoons of coconut oil a day, 170 gram or 300ml, can help the person lose about 1.3 kg a month.

Top 20 Artery-Cleansing Foods

Avocados
1) Avocados
Instead of using a whopping dollop of mayonnaise on your sandwich, try using thin slices of avocado," suggests a registered dietitian . A 1996 study done by researchers in Mexico found that people who ate avocado every day for one week experienced an average 17 percent drop in total blood cholesterol. What's more, their levels of LDL ("bad") cholesterol decreased and HDL ("good") cholesterol increased. Finding it tough to work avocado into your diet? Try drinking it in this delicious smoothie.
Avocados are loaded with B vitamins, which stress quickly depletes and your body needs to maintain healthy nerves and brain cells. And guacamole isn’t the only way to get your avocado fix! Try this Brazilian-inspired smoothie recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups lowfat milk
  • 1 large, ripe avocado
  • 2 tablespoons honey or agave nectar
  • Ice

Directions:

1. Add all ingredients to the pitcher of a blender. Blend until smooth and serve immediately.

2) Whole Grains
Cranberries
The soluble fiber found in whole grains such as whole-wheat bread, brown rice, and oatmeal binds the cholesterol in your meal and drags it out of your body, Madden says. "And, when your body needs to utilize cholesterol in the future, it draws on your blood cholesterol supply, effectively lowering your total blood cholesterol level and your risk for heart disease." And oatmeal isn’t just for breakfast; you can enjoy it any time of day with these easy recipes

3) Olive Oil
A 2011 study found that people ages 65 or older who regularly used olive oil (for both cooking and as a dressing) were 41 percent less likely to have a stroke compared to those who never use olive oil in their diet. Use a little olive oil instead of butter or drizzle some over pasta, salad, or veggies to take advantage of its high mono- and polyunsaturated fats, Madden says. "And although it’s a healthier option, remember to use these oils sparingly, as all fats still contain the same number of calories."

4) Nuts
Grabbing a handful of nuts is a heart-healthy way to beat the afternoon itch for a cookie, Madden says. "Almonds are very high in heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, vitamin E, and fiber, while walnuts are a great plant-based source of an omega-3 fatty acid called alpha-linolenic acid." According to the American Heart Association, monounsaturated fats can help reduce levels of bad cholesterol in your blood and lower your risk of heart disease and stroke.

5) Foods Fortified by Plant Sterols
Sterols are compounds that compete with the cholesterol in your food for absorption within your digestive tract, Madden says. "Sterols have been shown to lower both total and LDL cholesterol and can be found in certain brands of fortified orange juice, margarine spreads, and milk." Just be sure to check the label—make sure the margarine is trans fat-free and that "partially hydrogenated oil" does NOT appear on the ingredient list.

6) Salmon (or Other Fatty Fish)
Fatty fish such as mackerel, herring, tuna, and salmon are chock full of omega-3 fatty acids, Madden says. "Eating fish twice a week can reduce your risk of developing heart disease by decreasing inflammation and lowering triglyceride levels, and it may even help boost your HDL levels." Try any of these heart healthy and delicious salmon recipes for dinner tonight.

7) Asparagus
Asparagus
Asparagus is one of the best, natural artery-clearing foods around, says Shane Ellison, an organic chemist and author of Over-The-Counter Natural Cures. "Asparagus works within the 100,000 miles of veins and arteries to release pressure, thereby allowing the body to accommodate for inflammation that has accumulated over the years." It also helps ward off deadly clots, Ellison says. We just love the versatile vegetable’s crunch in this salad recipe.

8) Pomegranate
Pomegranate contains phytochemicals that act as antioxidants to protect the lining of the arteries from damage, explains Dr. Gregg Schneider, a nutritionally oriented dentist and expert on alternative medicine. A 2005 study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found that antioxidant-rich pomegranate juice stimulated the body’s production of nitric oxide, which helps keep blood flowing and arteries open.

9) Broccoli
Broccoli
Broccoli is rich in vitamin K, which is needed for bone formation and helps to keep calcium from damaging the arteries, Dr. Schneider says. Not to mention, broccoli is full of fiber, and studies show a high-fiber diet can also help to lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Enjoy this veggie for dinner tonight with this side dish recipe.

10) Turmeric
"The spice turmeric is a powerful anti-inflammatory," Dr. Schneider says. "It contains curcumin which lowers inflammation—a major cause of arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries." A 2009 study found that curcumin helps reduce the fatty deposits in arteries by as much as 26 percent.

11) Persimmons
Persimmons
Forget the old 'an apple a day' adage—it seems eating a daily persimmon is a better way to keep the doctor away. Research shows the polyphenols found in this fruit (which has twice as much fiber and more antioxidants than an apple) can help decrease levels of LDL cholesterol and triglycerides.

12) Orange Juice
A 2011 study published online in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that drinking two daily cups of 100-percent orange juice can help reduce diastolic (resting) blood pressure. OJ contains an antioxidant that has been found to help improve blood vessel function.

13) Spirulina
A daily 4,500mg dose of this blue-green algae (usually found in supplement or powder form) can help relax artery walls and normalize blood pressure. It may also help your liver balance your blood fat levels—decreasing your LDL cholesterol by 10 percent and raising HDL cholesterol by 15 percent, according a recent study.

14) Cinnamon
Just one teaspoon a day of antioxidant-rich cinnamon can help reduce fats in the bloodstream, helping to prevent plaque build up in the arteries and lower bad cholesterol levels by as much as 26 percent, according to recent research. Sprinkle some on your morning coffee or on these delicious crepes.

15) Cranberries/ kalaka ( in Tamil) or Karonda in Hindi
Cranberries
Research shows that potassium-rich cranberries can help reduce LDL cholesterol levels and help raise the good HDL levels in your body, and regular consumption of the holiday favorite may help reduce your overall risk of heart disease by as much as 40 percent.

16) Coffee
According to researchers in The Netherlands, people who drank more than two, but no more than four, cups of coffee a day for 13 years had about a 20 percent lower risk of heart disease than people who drank more or less coffee or no coffee at all. Moderation is the key to coffee's heart-health benefits—the caffeine is a stimulant which can cause a temporary increase in blood pressure, and in excess, can lead to irregular heart beat.

17) Cheese
Believe it or not, cheese could help lower your blood pressure! A recent study from Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School found that people who eat three servings a day of low-fat dairy have lower (three points less) systolic blood pressure than those who eat less. Here are some tasty, low fat picks to start snacking on today.

18) Green Tea
Green tea is rich in catechins, compounds that have been shown to decrease cholesterol absorption in your body. Another bonus? It may help prevent cancer and weight gain, too!

19) Watermelon
Talk about a perfect snack—watermelon is not only a diet-friendly food, but it can help protect your heart too! A Florida State University study found that people given a 4,000mg supplement of L-citrulline (an amino acid found in watermelon) lowered their blood pressure in just six weeks. Researchers say the amino acid helps your body produce nitric oxide, which widens blood vessels.

20) Spinach/ palak
The potassium and folate found in spinach can help lower blood pressure, and according to recent research, one serving of nutrient-packed leafy greens (like spinach) a day can help reduce your risk of heart disease by 11 percent. Enjoy some in salads, omelets, and smoothies.
