Reliable Home Remedies for Corns and Calluses

Corn and calluses can be painful, those in feet, restricts your walking too. Most people must have tried over the counter ointment, corn caps, may have worked, but below are some simple home remedies, which can be equally beneficial too. Why not give it a try, as all these ingredients are available in your kitchen
itself !, as it will not harm you, no side-effects too.

1) Hot water and apple cider vinegar
Fill a basin with hot, soapy water, then add a cup of apple cider vinegar before soaking your feet in the water for at least 15 minutes. Calluses should be softened enough to be filed with a pumice stone. Here’s how to get rid of corns using the same method: Dab some castor oil on after soaking your feet. Corns should peel away after about ten days of the treatment.

2) Lemon
Before going to sleep, cut a slice of lemon peel about an inch long and the width of your toe. Place the pith over the corn, securing with a bandage and covering with a white cotton sock overnight. Continue each night until the corn disappears.

3) Onion and white vinegar
In a glass container, pour white vinegar over a slice of white onion. Leave the container in a warm place during the day, then cover the corn with the onion before you go to bed. Use a bandage or bandage tape to hold it in place while you sleep. If the corn is not soft enough to be removed in the morning, repeat the treatment nightly until it softens more.

4) Bread in Apple cider vinegar
Soak a half a slice of stale bread in apple cider vinegar and secure it to the affected part of your foot with adhesive tape. Wrap with plastic wrap and slip on a cotton sock. Your corn or callus should disappear by morning.

5)  Aspirin and Apple cider vinegar
Here’s how to get rid of corns with the medicine you use to relieve pain all over. Crush five or six uncoated aspirin tablets and mix with equal parts apple cider vinegar and water. Once you’ve added enough to form a paste, rub it onto a corn or callus, using a bandage to hold it in place. After at least ten minutes, the bump should be loose enough to gently rub off with a pumice stone.

6) Epsom salt
For calluses, toss a handful of Epsom salts into a basin of warm water, then soak feet for about ten minutes. Once the dead skin has softened, use a callus file or pumice stone to rub off the top layers. Continue to grind the callus down a bit each day after a bath or shower. It might take a few weeks, but trying to remove the whole thing at once will make the callus worse if you grind too deep

7) Baking soda and lime juice
Here’s how to get rid of corns and calluses with baking soda: Mix together water, baking soda, and lime juice to form a paste. Apply the paste to the corn or callus and let it sit overnight. It will exfoliate the dead skin cells and keep the area infection free. Repeat every night for five to seven days until the corn or callus becomes dry and flakes away.

8) Turmeric and honey
Mix together one tablespoon of turmeric powder and 1.5 tablespoons of honey to create a thick paste. Apply to the corn and let it air dry, then rinse clean with warm water. Do this twice a day. The corn or callus should reduce in size within two to three days. Turmeric has healing and antimicrobial properties. When that is mixed with the soothing properties of honey it works to heal your corn.

10 simple ways to deal with an ingrown toenail at home

An ingrown toenail is a chronic disease when, for various reasons, the growing nail plate is inserted into the soft tissues of the lateral ridges of the toe. There are various methods of conservative and surgical treatment of this disease, but at the initial stages, before complications arise, a person can try to treat ingrown toenails at home.

Most often the big toe is affected. The disease occurs in several stages. It leads to discomfort and soreness in walking, and in the future - to inflammation of the tissues, their reddening, the release of light serous and bloody fluid, edema. The affected area can increase significantly in volume.
With the subsequent addition of staphylococcal infection, suppuration and other (often serious) complications arise that require emergency medical care. These complications are especially dangerous for people suffering from blood circulation disorders in the lower extremities and diabetes mellitus. Let’s look at 10 simple ways to deal with an ingrown toenail at home-

1. Wash Foot with Castile Soap. Mix this soap with water and put your feet there for about 20-30 minutes.

2. Onion Juice Treatment. Blend onion and add some drops of lemon juice there. Then apply the mixture to the necessary area and wrap with cotton cloth.

3. Treat with Vicks Vapo rub. Smash garlic and mix with Vicks Vapo rub. Apply to your nail and wrap with cotton cloth.

4. Aloe Vera Gel. Apply this remedy to the necessary areas two-three times a day.

5. Essential Oils. Take coconut oil and add some drops of any essential oil there. Apply two times a day.

6. Neem. Boil neem leaves in water and apply neem water to your toenail.

7. Hot and Cold Foot Bath. Take two tabs: one with cold water, the other with the mixture of hot water with Epsom salt. Place your feet in cold water, then in hot water.

8. Garlic. Smash garlic and mix it with olive oil. Apply this remedy for 5 days.

9. Lemon Juice and Honey. Mix honey with lemon juice, apply to your toenail for 30 minutes.

10. Apple Cider Vinegar. Mix it with water, fill the tub and place your feet there for 30 minutes.

10 Natural Remedies for Swollen Feet and Ankles

Swelling in your feet and ankles is called edema, and there are a lot of things that can cause the problem, from high blood pressure to pregnancy. What’s happening is your body is having trouble fighting gravity to move blood and fluids back up your legs, so your ankles, feet, and even your legs can begin to swell.
Edema on its own is not harmful, but it is uncomfortable. If you are seeing one foot or leg swelling a lot more than the other, or your face is swelling, you do want to call your doctor, because the cause could be a blood clot, and you don’t want to wait to address that problem.
That uncomfortable swelling is not actually a disorder, just a symptom, and the best way to treat it is to treat the root cause. If you’re swelling because of pregnancy, it should go down not long after you deliver. Talk to your doctor to see what could be causing your swelling.
Whatever the reason, these remedies can help give you some relief while you sort out the cause of your edema.

1. Try a magnesium supplement
Magnesium deficiency can contribute to edema, and taking a supplement can help give you some relief. Most of the recommendations I’ve seen are for 200mg twice a day, but if you’re pregnant you’ll want to talk to your doctor about that first. The RDA for magnesium is 350mg per day, and your doctor might not want you taking an extra 400mg, since you’re also probably getting magnesium in your prenatal vitamin and your diet.
A six months pregnant lady said she started taking 250mg of magnesium in the evenings, and the difference in my swelling was dramatic without changing anything else.

2. Do a Little Yoga
Exercise can help improve your circulation, and yoga is a great way to get moving and really focus on that circulatory system. Of course, you’ll want to talk to your doctor before starting up with yoga, especially if you haven’t been doing it before. If you’re totally new to yoga, I highly recommend taking a class. A yoga instructor can not only help you overcome any hesitations you have about yoga, but she or he will make sure you are doing the poses properly and might even be able to suggest additional postures to help with your edema! Once you have a swing of how the poses feel, you can practice at home.

3. Soak in Tonic Water
This one might sound a little odd, but soaking in room temperature – or cold, if it’s not too uncomfortable – tonic water can help with swelling. The quinine and the bubbles can help reduce inflammation, and frankly just soaking your poor, swollen feet feels great!

4. Grab Some Grapefruit Essential Oil
A warm bath can also help with swelling, and you can give that water a boost with a few drops of grapefruit essential oil! You can also just fill a bucket with nice, warm water to soak in.
If baths aren’t your thing, you can also mix a few drops of grapefruit oil with a carrier oil like olive or sweet almond oil and give yourself a little foot and leg massage. As you rub your feet, ankles, and calves, focus your pressure upward, rather than downward or in a circular motion.

5. Do a Salt Water Soak
Adding a healthy dose of Epsom salt to the tub is another way to boost that bath. Like the grapefruit oil, you can also just use a bucket, if you’re only having swelling in your feet and ankles. If your calves are swollen, too, a bath is probably your best bet.
Epsom salts are like magic for swelling. Even before I was pregnant, I took occasional salt baths after a running long distances to help my muscles relax.

6. Treat Yourself to a Massage
A massage therapist can do wonders for swollen feet and ankles! Don’t be shy about mentioning the problem when you get to your appointment, so she or he can focus on getting things moving in your lower extremities.
If you are pregnant, I’d recommending finding a therapist who specializes in prenatal massage. A prenatal massage therapist will be much more knowledgeable about how to make you comfortable. Seriously, I have never had so many pillows around me in my life, but all of that really does help make it a more beneficial experience.

7. Get Some Support Hose
Support hose or compression gear can prevent swelling, especially from being on your feet. You can find compression socks that come knee- or thigh-high or full-on compression stockings. These suckers are hard to get on, because they’re meant to be pretty tight on your legs, but they can really make a difference.
I have read a lot of great experiences with compression socks, but I’ve found that they start out feeling amazing, and after about four hours they start to make my feet cramp. You can find footless compression stockings, so if you experience the same problem, that might be a good solution for you.

8. Elevate Those Feet
Gravity is not your friend when it comes to edema, so elevate your feet every chance you get! When you’re relaxing in the evening, prop your legs up on some pillows. Ideally, you want your feet above your heart. Take THAT, gravity!
If you work a day job, try to find a way to prop your feet up under your desk. Even elevating a bit can make a big difference in your swelling as the day goes on.

9. Make a Splash
Swimming or even floating in water can help with swollen feet and ankles. The pressure from the water can help get things moving in your legs, and floating gives your circulatory system a break from gravity’s constant pull. If you don’t have a pool, check out local gyms to see what they offer.

10. Drink Up!
Excess salt is a big contributor to swelling, and upping your fluid intake can help dilute the salt in your system. Aim for 8-10 glasses of water per day to flush things out. Even better? Try making cucumber-lemon water! Just drop a couple of cucumber and lemon slices in your glass, and enjoy! Both of these fruits have anti-inflammatory properties, so if gives that water an extra swelling-fighting punch.

Cracked Feet- some simple remedies

Wintertime can be problematic for your skin, especially the skin on your feet. In fact, cracked feet are a winter problem that many people suffer from. This ailment is characterized by dry, hard and thickened skin around the rim of the heel. Although cracked feet can affect anyone, it is tends to be more common among elderly people, or those who suffer from eczema or diabetes.
The skin on our feet is mostly dry because there no oil glands present in that area of the body. However, overexposure to cold weather, lack of moisturizing, low humidity, certain medical conditions and prolonged standing can all lead to dry and cracked feet.
Keeping your feet crack-free this winter is easier than you think. With just a little care, you can ensure that your feet stay soft and smooth. Here are 10 great ways to keep your feet healthy this winter:
 1. Warm Water Soak
A warm water soak once a week will keep your feet crack-free throughout the year, and especially in winter. By soaking your feet, it makes it easier to remove hard skin that builds up on your feet and heels over time.
Method
1. Add some liquid soap to a tub filled with warm water.
2. Add a handful of sea salt to it.
3. Soak your feet in this solution for about 20 minutes.
4. After soaking, use a pumice stone to gently scrub off the loosened dead skin cells.
5. Rinse your feet with clean water and pat dry with a soft towel.
6. Apply some foot cream and put on a pair of clean socks.
7. Use this remedy once a week.

2. Oil Massage
If you regularly develop dried and cracked feet, it is very important that you massage them regularly with some oil. The oil will keep the hard skin moisturized and improve blood circulation. For massaging, you can use massage oil on its own, or mix it with some other oils for added benefits.
Method
1. At night before going to bed, wash your feet in warm water.
2. Dry thoroughly, especially between your toes.
3. Massage your feet and heels with olive, coconut, or almond oil - or a mixture of these - for 10-15 minutes.
4. Put on some clean socks and go to bed.
5. Continue to do this throughout the winter months.

3. Brown Sugar Scrub
The small granules of brown sugar work as a great scrub for your feet. It helps to scrub away any dead skin cells so that the skin on your feet remains soft and healthy. furthermore, brown sugar contains glycolic acid that can help fight off any bacterial infections.
Method
1. Mix 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, 1 tablespoon of honey, 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 1/2 a teaspoon of lemon juice to form a thick paste.
2. After having soaked your feet in warm water for 10 minutes, apply this paste to your feet..
3. Rub the paste around in circular motions until the sugar granules have melted away.
4. Wash your feet with warm water.
5. Repeat once a week.

4. Castor Oil
Castor oil will soften and moisturize your feet - it penetrates deep into the skin and therefore it helps restore the moisture and adds softness to the skin.
Method
1. Apply a thick layer of castor oil to your feet and cracked heels.
2. Put on some socks and leave overnight.
3. The next morning, rinse it off with lukewarm water.
4. Do this daily.

5. Glycerin
The glycerin that you have in your cabinet can do wonders in keeping your feet crack-free and soft throughout the harsh winter months.
Method
1. Mix together equal amounts of glycerin and rose water.
2. Rub this solution on your heels and feet before going to bed at night.
3. Put on some socks and leave the solution on overnight.
4. The next morning, rinse your feet with lukewarm water.
5. Do this each day throughout the winter.

6. Paraffin Wax
If you already have cracked and sore heels then paraffin wax is just what you're after. This wax acts as a natural emollient to soften your skin. Furthermore, the heat of the wax opens up skin pores and improves circulation.
Method
1. Melt one block of paraffin wax in a double boiler.
2. Add two tablespoons of mustard oil or coconut oil to the melted wax and mix well.
3. Allow the mixture to cool down (until a thin layer forms on the top).
4. Dip your feet in the mixture, wait 5-10 seconds and dip again. Repeat this five to six times.
5. Cover your feet with plastic wrap for 30 minutes. You can put a pair of socks on if you wish.
6. Remove the plastic and peel the wax off your skin.
7. Repeat this treatment once or twice a week.

7. Water Intake
Water intake is important for maintaining healthy cell metabolism. A dehydrated body can lead to dry skin and it cannot repair existing skin damage. If your skin isn't getting enough water, it will become tight and less resilient, which means that your feet will become more prone to cracks and fissures.
  • Drink a lot of water throughout the day. A good rule of thumb is to drink enough water so that your urine has little to no color.
  • Along with water, add water-rich fruits and vegetables to your diet.
8. Fruit Packs
You can prevent and treat cracked feet with homemade fruit packs. For example, ripe bananas, avocados and papayas are considered effective home remedies for cracked and dry heels thanks to their moisturizing properties.
Method
1. Apply the pulp of a ripe banana or avocado to the cracked parts of your heels and feet.
2. Leave for 10 minutes, then wash off with lukewarm water.
3. Do this a few times a week to enjoy soft and smooth skin.

9. Vitamin E
Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that protects skin cells from harmful free radicals that are produced by the body and other environmental sources. This vitamin helps repair the skin and works wonders when treating and preventing cracked feet.
  • Rub pure vitamin E oil on your feet each night before bed.
  • Include foods rich in vitamin E in your diet - green vegetables, nuts, fortified cereals, and whole-grain products.

10. Vitamin C

Just like vitamin E, vitamin C protects the skin from free radicals. this water-soluble vitamin is also crucial in the production of collagen, which is required for healthy skin.
  • Eat foods high in vitamin C including citrus fruits, such as oranges and grapefruit, strawberries, tomatoes, cauliflower, red peppers and pineapple. In addition to this, include Omega-3 and zinc-rich foods in your diet. Some great sources of these nutrients include fatty fish, oysters, flax seeds, walnuts, and fortified cereals.
  • You can also take a supplement (consult your doctor first).

Additional Tips

  • Since healthy feet start with good hygiene, make sure to keep them clean and dry all the time.
  • Don't use products that contain alcohol, as it will further dry out your skin.
  • Avoid using hot water for bathing, as it removes oils from the skin.
  • Always wear properly fitting shoes to allow your feet to breathe.
  • Prevent heat loss from your feet by wearing good quality socks.

HOME REMEDIES TO TREAT TOE NAIL FUNGAL INFECTIONS

Symptoms such as swelling, inflammation, thickening, yellowing and crumbling of your nails, toenail fungus is indicated. This is a very common problem, which is usually painless, unless the infection gets spread. The fungus thrives under certain conditions like abnormal levels of pH in the skin, a weak immune system, poor hygiene, diabetes and a continuous exposure to moist or damp environment. If not treated properly, toenail fungus can lead to cracking, splitting or total loss of your toenail. There are various ways of treating fungal infections in the nails. Some of them are as follows:
  1. Tea Tree Oil: Tea tree oil contains antiseptic and anti-fungal properties, which help in treating toenail fungus. You need to mix some drops of tea tree oil with coconut oil and olive oil. Using a piece of cotton, apply the mixture on your affected nail, keep it for 10 minutes and scrub off the nail with a toothbrush. For ideal results, you must repeat this process more than twice regularly.

  2. Baking Soda: Baking soda is a commonly used remedy for fungal infections in your nails. It also helps in neutralizing foot odor. Add baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and Epsom salt in hot water, add vinegar to the mixture and soak your affected nail in the solution. After this, wash your feet with water. Repeat the procedure twice a day for several weeks.

  3. White Vinegar: This is an ideal ingredient for the treatment of toenail fungus. It helps in restoring the pH balance of the skin and fights against infections. Add one part of white vinegar to warm water and soak your affected toenail in it for about 10 minutes. After this, you must wash it off. Carry out the process twice a day for effective results.

  4. Listerine Mouthwash: Listerine mouthwash is another important home remedy for treating fungal infections in the nails. This mouthwash contains certain compounds along with alcohol, which have very strong antiseptic properties and help in eliminating harmful fungi and bacteria from your nails.

Steps to Treat and Prevent Ingrown Toenails

What are ingrown toenails?
An ingrown toenail occurs when the toenail grows in the wrong direction, growing into the fleshy sides of the toe instead of outwards. This can lead to discomfort and pain when wearing closed shoes, and even to an infection if left untreated. In severe cases, surgical intervention may be needed.
What causes ingrown toenails?
The main causes of ingrown toenails are genetics, wearing shoes that are too tight on the toes, or trauma to the toenail area.

Treatment and prevention:
1. The Cotton Ball method
  • Begin by soaking your feet in hot water (as hot as you can stand) and Epsom salt (or povidone-iodine or potassium permanganate) for 20-30 minutes twice a day. By soaking your feet you soften the toenail, and the salt/PVP prevents infection by killing the bacteria in the area.

  • Trim your nail carefully, making sure it’s straight and not curved, without pointed parts at the edges. Curved toenails are more likely to become ingrown.

  • Use tweezers to gently push a cotton ball in the ingrown area, so that it raises the nail, preventing it from growing back into the toe.
  • Replace the cotton daily to prevent further infection.
  • If the toe is already infected, use an infection-preventing ointment (such as Neosporin) on the infected area and bandage it. Avoid wearing socks or shoes when you’re home, because the area needs to breathe.
2. Use lemon
  • By placing a thin slice of lemon on the toe and wrapping it in gauze overnight, you allow the lemon’s natural acidity to kill off any infection.
3. Soften the toenail with oil
  • Use Tea Tree oil or baby oil on the affected area to soften the toenail, which will reduce any pain when wearing shoes by lowering the pressure put on the nail.
Prevention:
  • Always trim your toenails, preferably every 2-3 weeks.
  • Avoid pedicures while suffering from an ingrown toenail – it may lead to a full-blown infection.
  • Don’t wear shoes that are too tight.
Warnings:
  • If the toe is infected and swollen with pus around it, see a doctor.
  • Do not remove the cuticles from your toes if you suffer from ingrown toenails.
