The 10 Most Useful Things You Can Do With Epsom Salt

Epsom salt is actually a natural mineral compound of magnesium and sulfate.
1. Bath
According to the National Academy of Sciences, most Americans are deficient in magnesium, a mineral that helps support many vital bodily functions. If left unchecked, a magnesium deficiency can lead to serious health issues down the road. So how can we get more magnesium? It’s Epsom salt to the rescue!

Doctors say that soaking in an Epsom salt bath is a safe, easy way to increase the body’s levels of both magnesium and sulfate, because these minerals are both readily absorbed through the skin. (So if anyone gives you a hard time about your long, luxurious soaks in the tub, you can tell them it’s good for your health!)

To do an Epsom salt soak, add 2 cups of Epsom salt to warm water in a standard-sized bathtub (double the amount of Epsom salt for oversized tubs.) Aim to soak for at least 12 minutes, and DO NOT USE SOAP. Soap will interfere with the action of the salts. Rest for about two hours afterwards, or better yet, take your bath just before bed! You’ll be sure to sleep like a baby!

2. Foot Soak

If you don’t have a bathtub, or just aren’t all that fond of soaking in a tub, try a foot soak instead! Add 1/2 cup of Epsom salt to a basin of warm water, and soak your feet for 20 minutes.

Your body will absorb the magnesium and sulfate through your feet, so you’ll still get the benefits of a full-body soak (but maybe not the relaxation of a good bath!)

3. Ease Constipation
Epsom salt is a natural laxative that can be used to relieve constipation. Dissolve 1 teaspoon of Epsom salt in a glass of water and drink. It will taste extremely bitter, but it works!

4. Hair Volume
A simple Epsom salt treatment will leave your hair feeling soft and full of body! Add equal parts of a deep conditioner and Epsom salt to a saucepan and stir to combine. Place the pan on your stovetop over low heat, just until the mixture is warmed through. Work the conditioner and Epsom salt mixture through your hair, then rinse after 20 minutes.

5. Garden Fertilizer
Studies show that Epsom salt may help plants grow greener with higher yields and more blooms. Magnesium helps seeds to germinate, increasing chlorophyll production and improving phosphorus and nitrogen uptake.

6. Racoon Deterrent
A few tablespoons of Epsom salt spread around your garbage cans will help deter pesky raccoons, who don’t like the taste of the stuff.

7. Splinter Remover
Dissolve around 1 cup of Epsom salt in a tub of water, and soak the area where the splinter is located. The soak will help to draw out the splinter, making it easier to remove with a pair of tweezers.

8. Slug Deterrent
Sprinkle Epsom salt where you see slug activity and say good-bye to the slugs.

9. Soothe Insect Bites
Use Epsom salt to reduce swelling and itching from insect bites. Make a compress by soaking a cotton washcloth in cold water that has been mixed with Epsom salt (two tablespoons per cup,) then apply to the skin.

10. Skin Exfoliation
Mix a handful of Epsom salt with enough olive oil or baby oil to create a paste. Gently rub it on your face for deep pore cleansing, or use it on heels, elbows and other rough areas. Rinse and pat dry.

Apart from being a special treat, foot baths are an excellent remedy for tired, painful and dry feet, too. They’re also capable of softening calluses, blisters, and rough skin, and some can even help you prevent skin and nail infections on the feet. Here we will show you how to make 5 different foot soaks intended to address different issues, such as soreness, poor blood circulation, and dryness. Why not pamper yourself or your loved one with this luxurious and much-needed treat?
All of these foot soaks are quite easy to make and only require access to basic equipment like hot and cold water, a tub or large bowl, a towel, and 15-30 minutes of your time. The optimal water temperature for a foot soak is between 92 and 100°F (33-37°C). All of the recipes and any additional ingredients can be found below.

1. Foot Soak to Improve Blood Circulation

Like
Our feet are among the most neglected areas of our body, and with the sedentary lifestyle many of lead combined with wearing tight shoes for hours on end, it isn't surprising that blood stagnation and poor circulation are the most common in the feet. To give your feet some extra attention and love they need and improve blood circulation in the feet, try this invigorating foot bath that combines the warming power of ginger with the aromatherapeutic and anti-inflammatory benefits of essential oils.
Ingredients:
- ½ cup ground or freshly grated ginger
- 5-20 drops bergamot or lemon essential oil
- 6 tsp base oil (e.g. grapeseed oil, sweet almond oil, liquid coconut oil)

Directions:
1. In a small glass or bowl, combine the essential oils.
2. In a separate bowl, carefully combine the ginger with some boiling water to activate the herb.
3. Finally, combine all the ingredients in a tub or bowl filled with warm water just enough to covers your ankles. Make sure to test the temperature before getting into the water so that it's not too hot or cold. If so, adjust the temperature simply by adding more water.

2. Foot Soak for Sore Feet
Epsom salts are among the most powerful ingredients to use on feet that feel, sore, achy, and a bit swollen after a long and tiresome day. This is because Epsom salts are high in magnesium that gets absorbed through your skin and works to relax and relieve the tension in your feet. Meanwhile, the tea tree or rosemary essential oils will act as antibacterial agents to clean and disinfect your feet.
Ingredients:
- ½ cup Epsom salt
- 6 tsp base oil (e.g. grapeseed oil, sweet almond oil, liquid coconut oil)
- 5-20 drops of rosemary or tea tree essential oil
Directions:
1. In a bowl, combine the oils.
2. Fill the tub or a large bowl with warm water (92-100°F or 33-37°C) just enough to cover your ankles and dissolve the Epsom salts in the water.
3. Pour the oil mixture into the water. Make sure to test the temperature before getting into the water so that it's not too hot or cold.

3. Relaxing Lavender Foot Soak for Bed
It often happens that we're so stressed and simultaneously tired that it's difficult to relax and fall asleep at night. If you experience a similar concern (I surely do), we highly recommend this milky, relaxing, and oh so soothing lavender bath soak to try just before bed. Best of all, this soothing foot bath will also make your feet soft like a baby's without feeling oily.
Ingredients:
- ½ cup Epsom salt
- ¼ cup coconut milk
- 5-10 drops of lavender essential oil
Directions:
1. Into a large bowl or the bottom of a tub filled with warm (92-100°F or 33-37°C) water just enough to cover your ankles, add the Epsom salts and wait for them to dissolve.
2. Then, add in the coconut milk and drop the lavender essential oil directly into the water. Make sure to test the temperature before getting into the water so that it's not too hot or cold. Relax and enjoy.

4. Moisturizing Soak for Dry and Cracked Heels
This recipe might surprise you, as one of the key ingredients in this concoction is Listerine - yes, the same stuff you use to as mouthwash. Listerine has an ingredient called Methyl salicylate that has antiseptic, gentle exfoliating and conditioning properties, as well as a weak analgesic effect, all of which are quite useful in a bath soak. Many people swear by this ingredient and say that it can prevent fungal and other infections of the feet, as well as soften the dry and hard areas of the feet. If you want to try it out, follow this recipe.
Ingredients:
- ½ cup Epsom salt
- ½ cup Listerine
- 5-10 drops of essential oil of your choice (optional)
Directions:
1. In a large bowl with warm water (about 1 gallon or 3.7 liters), dissolve the Epsom salts.
2. Add in the Listerine to the water, along with the optional essential oil of your choice. Soak your feet for at least 20-30, adding more warm water if it gets too cold.

5. Detoxifying Foot Soak
If your feet need a deep cleaning and detox, be it after a long and busy week or in preparation for the sandal season, this powerful foot soak is what you would benefit from the most. It cleans, it softens your skin, and removes dry patches, lessens calluses, and detoxifies. You can repeat this soak once a week until you get the desired results, just make sure to always moisturize your feet after you use this foot soak.
Ingredients:
- ½ cup Epsom salt
- 2 tbsp bentonite clay
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
Directions:
1. As in the previous recipes, start with dissolving the Epsom salt in plenty of warm water in a tub or bowl.
2. After that, add the lemon juice and dissolve the bentonite clay in water, swirling to avoid clumps. As previously, make sure the water is the right temperature, and when you're ready, start soaking your feet in the mixture.
3. When you're done, rinse with warm water, pat dry with a towel, and apply moisturizer.,

How To Do A Liver Gallbladder Cleanse Naturally

Your liver is an organ with a very specific job and when it is under-performing, it affects every aspect of your life.
Chronic fatigue, migraines, acid reflux and more could all be symptoms your liver isn’t doing its job.
Your Gallbladder is a small pouch that sits just under your liver. It essentially stores bile which assists with the digestive process.
It breaks up fats but when overloaded with cholesterol and bile salts can cause gallbladder stones to form.
These stones clog up the body’s cleansing organs, creating a toxic environment incapable of maintaining good health. You become fatigued, your tissues inflame, you gain weight, and your immune system stops fighting off illness and disease.
These stones are bile that hardens and crystallizes and can cause a world of pain when they reach a certain size. Regular cleansing keeps your organs functioning at peak performance.

6 Steps To Cleanse Your Liver

Before we share the Gallbladder Flush with you, here’s 6 all-natural ways that you can clean up your liver. Dr. Axe suggests the following:
  • Removing toxic foods such as processed foods and trans fats from your diet. These can wreak havoc on your liver by working against it.
  • Drink raw vegetable juice to effectively cleanse your liver. Dr. Axe says that it is nearly impossible to eat enough vegetables to clean out your liver, you would be eating every minute of the day! So drink them instead by mixing your own concoctions of cabbage, cauliflower, Brussel sprouts, and more juicy veggies.
  • Eat your potassium! You need 4,700 milligrams per day for proper liver function, so be sure to get yours through good, healthy sources. Sweet potatoes, tomato sauces, spinach, beans bananas, and even molasses contain good amounts.
  • Coffee enemas can be used to cleanse the liver as well. They have been known to be a highly effective tool in the relief of fatigue and constipation.
  • Use these supplements: Milk thistle, dandelion, and turmeric.
  • Eat real liver from grass-fed cattle or chicken. You can also take liver tablets to support healthy liver function.

Liver Gallbladder Flush Ingredients

Here is everything you’ll need to do your cleanse:
  • 4 tablespoons of Epsom salts
  • 3 cups of water
  • Jar with tight-sealing lid
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Vitamin C powder to taste (optional)
  • 1 grapefruit

Liver Gallbladder Flush Instructions

  1. First, you’ll want to be sure you don’t make any plans for the night of and day after the cleanse. You might be into the bathroom quite a bit!
  2. You’ll need to prepare about 4-5 days ahead of your cleanse. During these days, be sure to drink plenty of apple juice to soften the gallstones in your bladder. You could also alternatively take a malic acid supplement for these few days.
  3. Now you’re ready to begin! Start your day off with a very light breakfast with NO fat. As long as it’s food containing no fat, it’s fine.
  4. This helps to put pressure on your liver and eliminate more gallstones during your flush.
  5. At 2 pm, you must stop eating and drinking. At this time, also be sure to prep your drink mix.
  6. Pour the Epsom salts and water into your jar and close it tight. Put it in the fridge for later on.
  7. At 6 pm, you’ll drink a 3/4 cup of this mixture. It WILL taste bad, but if you can’t stand it you could mix it with some Vitamin C powder.
  8. At 8 pm, drink another 3/4 cup of the mixture. Now is the time to do anything that needs to be done before you end your day at 9:45.
  9. At 9:45 pm, pour 1/2 cup of extra virgin olive oil into a jar. Squeeze the juices of an entire grapefruit into the jar as well. Put the lid on and give the mixture a good shake until it’s all mixed together. Be sure to go to the bathroom and get your teeth brushed right now if you need to.
  10. At 10 pm, drink this entire mixture within five minutes.
  11. After you’ve drunk it, you’ll need to lay down immediately. Do NOT get up or go to the bathroom at this time. Lay down on your back and stay that way for at least 20 minutes. You may feel your liver moving gallstones, this is normal.
  12. When you wake up in the morning drink another 3/4 cup of your Epsom salt mixture. You can go back to bed, and if you need to go to the bathroom, do so.
  13. Two hours after this, drink the rest of the Epsom salts mix.
  14. After 2 more hours, you can eat anything you’d like except for solid fruits. Start out slowly with liquids and progress to solids during the course of the day.
Remember, you’ll be going to the bathroom quite a bit, so be sure to have a relaxed day ahead. You should notice some small gallstones in your toilet. Some will float to the top of the water, while others will sink. These stones sink because they were calcified.
Wait at least 2 weeks before trying another cleanse. It is also important that you seek Medical Advice prior to trying a cleanse of any sort. Your Doctor can advise you if this is beneficial for you.
