Practical Uses of Vaseline

Vaseline is an ideal product to use for skin care, and you might also be familiar with a couple of its other practical uses. Because of its softening properties, Vaseline has been found to be handy for a multitude of applications, including cosmetic, beauty and home purposes.
Important: Since Vaseline contains petroleum oil, which is a by-product of the oil we use for our cars, excessive use of the product may not be good for your health, so make sure you take the necessary safety measures.
For a more natural alternative to this product, you may even try the homemade version of Vaseline, which does not use petroleum.
Skin Care and Medicinal Uses
  • Facial care: Use Vaseline on your face to remove greasiness, get rid of dryness, and/or relieve razor burn and windburn. Apply a small amount onto your clean damp face and rub thoroughly. You may even warm it up and use it instead of a night cream.
  • Back pain relief: Soothe back pain by having warmed up jelly massaged into the affected area in your back.
  • Treat a fever: If you're running a temperature, put petroleum jelly in the freezer for a few minutes and rub it onto your forehead while still cold.
  • Prevent or treat chafing: If you've chafed your skin, or are sensitive to chafing, apply Vaseline before or after to either prevent or soothe it.
    • Protect cuts or scrapes: Although petroleum jelly won't disinfect the damaged area, it will act as protection from dirt and infections.
    • Moisturize dry areas: If your elbows and knees are often dry and ashy, apply some Vaseline to them to soften the skin.
    • A remedy for cold sores: Use petroleum jelly to diminish the appearance of cold sores on the skin.
    • Relieve skin reactions: To help treat insect bites, poison ivy rashes, and atopic eczema, use a small amount of Vaseline on the skin.
    • Heal new tattoos: Got ink? Vaseline is probably the best product you can use to soothe and protect the affected skin area.
    • Make vapor rub: Add a few drops of your preferred essential oil to make a homemade version of Vicks Vapor Rub, and relieve cold symptoms.
    • Prevent diaper rash: Use petroleum jelly as an alternative to Desitin diaper rash preventative for babies.
    • Protect baby's eyes during bath time: In order to prevent products from entering a baby's eyes in the bath, put some Vaseline above the eyebrows. This way, the water will slide off the sides.
    •  Pet care: If your pets' paws are cracked, rub in a little jelly to soften them.
    • Treat shoe blisters: Help cure or prevent blisters by applying some Vaseline onto the parts that rub against the shoe.
    • Heal cracked feet: Spread some Vaseline over your the skin on your feet before bedtime and sleep with socks to heal dry and cracked feet overnight.
    Beauty and Cosmetic Uses
    • Makeup remover: Use petroleum jelly to clean your face from makeup, or to release fake lashes from the lash line.
    • Alternative to mascara: The easiest way to get your hands on clear mascara is to use Vaseline. Use some with a mascara brush to define your eyelashes in a natural look. It gives a glossy shine and is also waterproof.
    • Control eyebrows: If your eyebrows need some controlling, use some Vaseline to fix them neatly into place.
    • A remedy for chapped lips: Use petroleum jelly instead of a lip balm by applying it to your chapped lips. You may even give flavor to your jelly by adding some Kool-Aid powder. You may make use of this application more regularly if you want to make your lips smoother - simply leave the jelly on for a few minutes, then scrub it off using a toothbrush.
    • Avoid getting lipstick on your teeth: By applying some jelly to your teeth before putting on lipstick, you would be preventing lipstick from getting onto your teeth.
    • Scalp care: After shampooing your hair, use some petroleum jelly instead of conditioner to soothe scalp itchiness and scaling, as a result of dandruff. You may even use jelly to protect your scalp from the use of chemicals in hair dye, perming, and straightening.
    • Treat split ends: If you have split ends in your hair, apply some Vaseline to hide and hydrate them.
    • Style hair: Create a choppy hair look by using some jelly on your hair, applying it in a scrunching motion.

Health Benefits Of Pineapple

Benefits For Skin

1. Effective Solution For Acne

This exotic flavor is like an elixir for our skin, especially to get rid of stubborn pimples. How? Well, the presence of vitamin C (thus, the tartness) in pineapples enables this fruit to be used, internally as well as externally, as a cure for acne and other inflammatory skin conditions. Also, bromelain, the anti-inflammatory enzyme in this fruit, boosts the healing power of vitamin C. So, the next time you fall prey to acne, try using pineapples.

2. Helps Your Skin Look Younger

All you lovely ladies who want their skin to be even and supple, include this exotic fruit in your grocery list. The scientific reason why pineapples make our skin awesome- this fruit gives the collagen synthesis in your body a boost. The higher the collagen synthesis is, the firmer and more flexible your skin will be. Plus, the added nourishment comes from the presence of amino acids and vitamin C, which ensure that the damaged cells and tissues are repaired quickly. You can see instant effects after applying freshly prepared pineapple juice on your face and washing it off using tap water after 10 minutes.

3. Natural Exfoliating Agent

In order to exfoliate your skin, you can use freshly crushed pineapple wedges. This particular surface has a rough texture that eliminates the dead skin and accentuates blood flow. This, in turn, makes your skin look brighter.

4. Get Rid Of Those Cracks On Your Feet

Another of the most common problems that make us depend on those commercial creams. But, pineapple skin is the most inexpensive (well, if we take off the price of pineapple), yet effective method to make them vanish. The exfoliating property of pineapple, along with its collagen synthesizing nature, makes it an excellent natural scrub for your feet. It helps in sloughing off the flaky, calloused skin of the feet, leaving them smooth, soft, and pretty. The inflammation and swelling, triggered by the cracks, also get relieved.

5. Softens And Strengthens Nails

Have you thought why your nails look dry and brittle? No? Blame vitamins A and B. The lack of them in the body is the main culprit. You do not need any over-the-counter multivitamin pills to ease this condition, though! Just use pineapple. You can even prepare a nail softening lotion at your home using pineapple juice.
You Will Need
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon fresh pineapple juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 2 drops lemon oil
What You Need To Do
  1. Mix all the above ingredients in a bowl using a brush or a spoon.
  1. Apply it to your nails and cuticles with the help of a cotton ball or a thin brush.
  1. Rinse after 15 minutes.
How Often Should You Do This
You can do this treatment daily before sleeping, and see the amazing shine on your nails the next morning. Wow!
Caution
If you’re allergic to lemon juice, do not try this treatment.

6. For Hydrated, Radiant Skin

Dry skin looks dull and unattractive, doesn’t it? But the blazing summer heat and pollution do not help our cause. Pineapple to the rescue! You can now make use of this tropical fruit to give your skin that hydrated effect that we all love to achieve with multiple skin care products. How? Mix about three tablespoons of freshly crushed pineapples with an egg yolk and a little milk. Apply it topically on your skin and leave it on for a few minutes. Wash off with tepid water to get instant moisturized skin.

7. Natural Cure For Chapped Lips

Want to achieve pouty, kissable lips that are so soft and supple that you can’t help but fuss over them? Take my suggestion and use pineapple that, when used along with coconut oil, offers relief from chapped lips. Pineapple, like coconut oil, possesses skin hydrating and nourishing properties.

Benefits Of Pineapple For Hair

Pineapples are amazing for hair too. Here’s how!

8. Prevents Hair Loss

Watching hundreds of hair strands flow down the drain when you shower can be really painful. But, a few dietary changes can help you prevent this troublesome hair loss. Including pineapple in your lunch/dinner routine is one such solution. Vitamin C is an important element that aids in preventing hair loss. It is a powerful antioxidant that combats free radical damage. Pineapple is a rich source of this water-soluble vitamin. Eat them as wedges or just juice them fresh and drink it to reap the benefits of vitamin C and prevent hair loss.

9. Good For Inflammatory Scalp Conditions

When your scalp feels like a battleground of itches, try pineapples for instant soothing. Bromelain is an antioxidative enzyme that possesses anti-inflammatory powers. Daily consumption of pineapple prevents and eases inflammatory conditions that affect the scalp. It also offers relief from infections of the scalp, preventing unwanted hair fall.

10. For Thicker Hair

Envious of Rapunzel’s long and thick mane? You can also achieve the Disney princess look by having pineapples. Their extracts are known to possess hair thickening properties. The enzymes present in this golden-yellow fruits enrich the hair follicles by rendering vital nutrients. This, in turn, improves the elasticity and thickness of the hair.

Benefits For Health

The home of Spongebob is full of health benefits owing to the correct amount of vitamins A and C, fiber, potassium, phosphorus, and calcium present in them. Check out best benefits of eating pineapple.

11. Prevent Free Radical Damage

Pineapples are a rich source of antioxidants that help fight free radicals in the body, thereby preventing further cellular damage. These antioxidants also protect our body from diseases like atherosclerosis, heart diseases, arthritis, various cancers, etc. So, if you are looking for an escape from these conditions, do not hesitate from adapting to pineapples.

12. Prevent Colds

Nobody likes to sneeze and sniffle for most of the day. Born under the wintery skies, I’m very prone to getting cold fits even in summers, so pineapple has become my buddy. This exotic fruit is abundant in vitamin C and bromelain, which fight against microbial infections. Eating pineapples with the prescribed medicines can help cure colds and coughs effectively.

13. Strong Bones

Add pineapples to your diet and you’ll be the proud owner of stronger bones within no time. The rich amount of manganese present in pineapples helps in strengthening bones and connective tissues. It also contains essential minerals required for a healthy and strong body.

14. Healthy Gums

Eating pineapple strengthens your gums, and keeps your teeth healthy and strong, thus giving you enough confidence to give a teethy (or gummy) smile to the camera .

15. Macular Degeneration

Macular degeneration is a condition in which adults lose their vision. Beta-carotene present in pineapples improves vision.

16. Anti-inflammatory Action

Pineapple is well known for its anti-inflammatory properties that prevent inflammation in arthritis patients and gives strength to the bones. Get ready to run across the room with your now stronger bones!

17. Cures Sinusitis, Sore Throat, Gout, Swellings

Pineapples help prevent sinusitis. They are also effective in curing sore throat, gout, and swellings. Isn’t it just awesome?

18. Anti-Cancer Properties

Hearing the word ‘cancer’ itself brings chills to our spine, doesn’t it? Did you know that pineapples are also proven to be beneficial against all type of cancers? The abundance of antioxidants in pineapples helps fight the free radicals. This also halts the process of cell damage and prevents several types of cancers.

19. Helps Prevent Atherosclerosis

Free radicals cause atherosclerosis, which can be easily prevented by the antioxidants in pineapples .

20. Maintains Heart’s Health

How are we suppose to sing sappy love songs about heartbeats if your heart isn’t healthy enough? Go for pineapples! They have the solution for everything (well, not everything, but you got my point!). Powerful antioxidants present in pineapple help lower the cholesterol levels in the body, thereby preventing heart diseases.

21. Immunity

Vitamin C and antioxidants present in pineapples boost the immunity system of our body, leaving you all healthy and happy. So, what are you waiting for? Raise up the inner Powerpuff Girls in you!

22. Digestion

Gulping down all the tasty savories present before me is something that I can’t really control (especially when it comes to desserts), so aftermath is inevitable. But, I have got my own little hack to get rid of the stomachache – pineapples. They aren’t one of my favorite fruits for nothing. Pineapple is rich in bromelain, vitamin C, and dietary fiber that promote digestion.

23. Bronchitis

You must have noted that the anti-inflammatory properties of pineapples come in handy in treating a lot of conditions. They also help in reducing inflammation in bronchial tubes, which generally arises due to bronchitis .

24. Catarrh

Peculiar name, isn’t it? But it is a disorder in which there is inflammation of the mucus membrane in one of the airways or cavities of the body. This disorder can be prevented by eating pineapples regularly.

25. Prevents Hypertension

If you’re suffering from high blood pressure and hypertension, then you must start eating pineapples regularly (a trick I told my dad, and his BP is under control, surprisingly!). Higher amounts of potassium and lower amounts of sodium in pineapples help maintain normal blood pressure levels.

26. Treats Intestinal Worms

Pineapple contains the digestive enzyme bromelain, so a diet rich in pineapple helps clear certain intestinal parasites such as tapeworms. So, say bye-bye to all those untimely aches caused by these disgusting worms.

27. Relieves Nausea

The earlier months of pregnancy are hell (due to several pukes a day and weird food cravings). So, adopt pineapple juice that is known to avert nausea or morning sickness .

Cracked Feet- some simple remedies

Wintertime can be problematic for your skin, especially the skin on your feet. In fact, cracked feet are a winter problem that many people suffer from. This ailment is characterized by dry, hard and thickened skin around the rim of the heel. Although cracked feet can affect anyone, it is tends to be more common among elderly people, or those who suffer from eczema or diabetes.
The skin on our feet is mostly dry because there no oil glands present in that area of the body. However, overexposure to cold weather, lack of moisturizing, low humidity, certain medical conditions and prolonged standing can all lead to dry and cracked feet.
Keeping your feet crack-free this winter is easier than you think. With just a little care, you can ensure that your feet stay soft and smooth. Here are 10 great ways to keep your feet healthy this winter:
 1. Warm Water Soak
A warm water soak once a week will keep your feet crack-free throughout the year, and especially in winter. By soaking your feet, it makes it easier to remove hard skin that builds up on your feet and heels over time.
Method
1. Add some liquid soap to a tub filled with warm water.
2. Add a handful of sea salt to it.
3. Soak your feet in this solution for about 20 minutes.
4. After soaking, use a pumice stone to gently scrub off the loosened dead skin cells.
5. Rinse your feet with clean water and pat dry with a soft towel.
6. Apply some foot cream and put on a pair of clean socks.
7. Use this remedy once a week.

2. Oil Massage
If you regularly develop dried and cracked feet, it is very important that you massage them regularly with some oil. The oil will keep the hard skin moisturized and improve blood circulation. For massaging, you can use massage oil on its own, or mix it with some other oils for added benefits.
Method
1. At night before going to bed, wash your feet in warm water.
2. Dry thoroughly, especially between your toes.
3. Massage your feet and heels with olive, coconut, or almond oil - or a mixture of these - for 10-15 minutes.
4. Put on some clean socks and go to bed.
5. Continue to do this throughout the winter months.

3. Brown Sugar Scrub
The small granules of brown sugar work as a great scrub for your feet. It helps to scrub away any dead skin cells so that the skin on your feet remains soft and healthy. furthermore, brown sugar contains glycolic acid that can help fight off any bacterial infections.
Method
1. Mix 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, 1 tablespoon of honey, 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 1/2 a teaspoon of lemon juice to form a thick paste.
2. After having soaked your feet in warm water for 10 minutes, apply this paste to your feet..
3. Rub the paste around in circular motions until the sugar granules have melted away.
4. Wash your feet with warm water.
5. Repeat once a week.

4. Castor Oil
Castor oil will soften and moisturize your feet - it penetrates deep into the skin and therefore it helps restore the moisture and adds softness to the skin.
Method
1. Apply a thick layer of castor oil to your feet and cracked heels.
2. Put on some socks and leave overnight.
3. The next morning, rinse it off with lukewarm water.
4. Do this daily.

5. Glycerin
The glycerin that you have in your cabinet can do wonders in keeping your feet crack-free and soft throughout the harsh winter months.
Method
1. Mix together equal amounts of glycerin and rose water.
2. Rub this solution on your heels and feet before going to bed at night.
3. Put on some socks and leave the solution on overnight.
4. The next morning, rinse your feet with lukewarm water.
5. Do this each day throughout the winter.

6. Paraffin Wax
If you already have cracked and sore heels then paraffin wax is just what you're after. This wax acts as a natural emollient to soften your skin. Furthermore, the heat of the wax opens up skin pores and improves circulation.
Method
1. Melt one block of paraffin wax in a double boiler.
2. Add two tablespoons of mustard oil or coconut oil to the melted wax and mix well.
3. Allow the mixture to cool down (until a thin layer forms on the top).
4. Dip your feet in the mixture, wait 5-10 seconds and dip again. Repeat this five to six times.
5. Cover your feet with plastic wrap for 30 minutes. You can put a pair of socks on if you wish.
6. Remove the plastic and peel the wax off your skin.
7. Repeat this treatment once or twice a week.

7. Water Intake
Water intake is important for maintaining healthy cell metabolism. A dehydrated body can lead to dry skin and it cannot repair existing skin damage. If your skin isn't getting enough water, it will become tight and less resilient, which means that your feet will become more prone to cracks and fissures.
  • Drink a lot of water throughout the day. A good rule of thumb is to drink enough water so that your urine has little to no color.
  • Along with water, add water-rich fruits and vegetables to your diet.
8. Fruit Packs
You can prevent and treat cracked feet with homemade fruit packs. For example, ripe bananas, avocados and papayas are considered effective home remedies for cracked and dry heels thanks to their moisturizing properties.
Method
1. Apply the pulp of a ripe banana or avocado to the cracked parts of your heels and feet.
2. Leave for 10 minutes, then wash off with lukewarm water.
3. Do this a few times a week to enjoy soft and smooth skin.

9. Vitamin E
Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that protects skin cells from harmful free radicals that are produced by the body and other environmental sources. This vitamin helps repair the skin and works wonders when treating and preventing cracked feet.
  • Rub pure vitamin E oil on your feet each night before bed.
  • Include foods rich in vitamin E in your diet - green vegetables, nuts, fortified cereals, and whole-grain products.

10. Vitamin C

Just like vitamin E, vitamin C protects the skin from free radicals. this water-soluble vitamin is also crucial in the production of collagen, which is required for healthy skin.
  • Eat foods high in vitamin C including citrus fruits, such as oranges and grapefruit, strawberries, tomatoes, cauliflower, red peppers and pineapple. In addition to this, include Omega-3 and zinc-rich foods in your diet. Some great sources of these nutrients include fatty fish, oysters, flax seeds, walnuts, and fortified cereals.
  • You can also take a supplement (consult your doctor first).

Additional Tips

  • Since healthy feet start with good hygiene, make sure to keep them clean and dry all the time.
  • Don't use products that contain alcohol, as it will further dry out your skin.
  • Avoid using hot water for bathing, as it removes oils from the skin.
  • Always wear properly fitting shoes to allow your feet to breathe.
  • Prevent heat loss from your feet by wearing good quality socks.

  • this is only for your information, kindly take the advice of your doctor for medicines, exercises and so on.
