How to Balance Your Body's pH Levels

Your body really is the sum of its parts. If one part of your body isn’t working properly, the entire system will get bogged down. But why do we treat the symptoms instead of going to the root of the problem? If a cog in the machine breaks, we fix it, but instead of shutting everything off and putting a patch on an integral part of the chain, why don’t we make sure the chain is strong? Why don’t we ensure that the body is well maintained, oiled, and always topped up with the proper fuel?

A Well-Oiled Machine
Well maintained means rested. Well-oiled means hydrated. Gassed up with proper fuel means eating a diet that is made up of the right foods – alkaline-forming foods. These foods help to create and maintain a healthy pH in the body.

The majority of diseases love acidic conditions and cannot exist when the pH level (the concentration of hydrogen ions in your blood) in the body is alkaline. The pH scale ranges from 0-14, with 0 being highly acidic, and 14 being highly alkaline.

Healthy pH Balance The perfect pH range in humans is 7.30-7.45, so slightly acidic. However, there’s a problem – our stomachs need acid to break down foods, but this acid helps bacteria, fungi, and viruses to reproduce. The majority of us are not as alkaline as we should be.

However, this is easily rectified. Below you will find 12 ways to balance your body’s pH levels so you can get (or remain) as healthy as you possibly can. An alkaline diet promotes healthier sleep, provides the body with more burnable energy, and is pretty easy to follow.

14 Ways to Balance Your Body’s pH
1. Consume only organic, non-GMO foods. By doing this, you will be able to avoid pesticides, chemicals, and other contaminants that produce acid.

 2. Consume alkaline-forming foods. Most fruit and vegetables can be put into this category. For a complete list of alkaline forming foods, kindly see my next post.

3. Eat less refined flours, sugars, and meats. You should aim to eat only 40-50 grams of protein per day as these acid-forming foods all contribute to a very unhealthy pH balance.

4. Prepare meals intelligently. Combine acidic foods with alkaline foods in order to create a meal that has a perfect balance. If you’re not sure what foods are alkaline and which are acidic, consult this list.

5. Drink 1-2 glasses of apple cider vinegar and water each day. Simply mix 1-2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with 8 ounces of water.

6. If you do not fancy the above drink, you can always combine 2 tablespoons of lemon or lime juice with half a teaspoon of baking powder. After the foaming has stopped, add 8-12 ounces of water and drink immediately.

7. You can also try drinking 2 teaspoons of baking soda mixed with 8 ounces of water daily. If you suffer from hypertension or an edema, you should avoid this option, or talk to a doctor first.

8. Drink a glass of warm lemon water in the morning. To make this drink, juice half a lemon and add it to 8 ounces of warm water. Drinking this first thing in the morning will rid your body of excess acids, creating an alkaline state. The water should always be warm as this will put the least amount of stress on your gut.

9. Eat foods that are rich in potassium. Such foods include lemons, honey, bananas, sweet potatoes, and raw, natural yogurt.

10. Mix 1-2 teaspoons of cream of tartar with 8 ounces of water. This will help your body form an alkaline state, and is especially good when it comes to calming nausea, relieving a headache, or overcoming shock.

11. Drink lots of water every day. This is the best way to ensure that your system is kept well oiled. Drinking water will help you to eliminate waste from your body. You should aim to drink 7-8 glasses of water a day.

12. Take digestive enzyme supplements. This will help to balance your pH levels and help your body to overcome acidosis. The pancreas is the organ that is mostly responsible for digestive enzyme production, so if your pancreas is not functioning properly, your natural enzyme level will not be where it needs to be.

13. Get active. Exercise can help remove the acidic waste that your body naturally creates, creating a more favorable alkaline environment. Even 5 minutes of brief walking can make a big difference, so don’t assume that you need to exercise for an hour to reap any benefits.

14. Snack on raw, unsalted almonds. These nuts are full of natural alkaline minerals such as calcium and magnesium, which help to balance out acidity, while also balancing blood sugar.

Spread of breast cancer linked to compound in asparagus and other foods

Breast cancer patients could be encouraged to cut asparagus and other foods from their diets in the future to reduce the risk of the disease spreading, scientists say.

Researchers are investigating whether a change in diet could help patients with breast tumours after studies in mice showed that asparagine, a compound first identified in asparagus but present in many other foods, drives the spread of the disease to other organs.

When scientists reduced asparagine in animals with breast cancer, they found that the number of secondary tumours in other tissues fell dramatically. The spread of malignant cells, often to the bones, lungs and brain, is the main cause of death among patients who are diagnosed with breast cancer.

“This is a very promising lead and one of the very few instances where there is a scientific rationale for a dietary modification influencing cancer,” said the lead scientist.

Asparagine is an amino acid that is made naturally in the body as a building block for proteins. But it is also found in the diet, and in high levels in certain meats, vegetables and dairy products.

The international team of cancer specialists from different countries studied mice with an aggressive form of breast cancer. The mice develop secondary tumours in a matter of weeks and tend to die from the disease within months.

Writing in the journal, the researchers describe how they reduced the ability of breast cancer to spread in the animals by blocking asparagine with a drug called L-asparaginase. To a lesser extent, by putting the animals on a low-asparagine diet worked too. Inspired by the results, the scientists examined records from human cancers and found that breast tumours that churned out the most asparagine were most likely to spread, leading patients to die sooner. The same was seen in cancers of the head, neck and kidney.

Asparagine appears to help cancer cells change into a form that easily spreads from the breast, through the bloodstream, to other organs where they grow into secondary tumours, the scientist said. While suppressing levels of asparagine reduced the spread of breast cancer around the body, it did nothing to prevent breast tumours forming in the first place.

If the findings hold in humans, breast cancer patients may be put on low asparagine diets while they have conventional treatments, such as chemotherapy, for the disease. But because asparagine is so ubiquitous in food, drugs that target the amino acid may be more effective. L-asparagine breaks the amino acid down in the bloodstream, but more targeted drugs could block its production altogether.

“This is one case where we can show at a deep biochemical level how a change in diet can impact properties of cells that are relevant to the progression of lethal disease,” said a scientist. “But of course, until human studies are done, this isn’t a DIY method to prevent cancer.”

A cancer researcher said that lowering asparagine levels, either with drugs or dietary restriction, would help prevent cancer cells from spreading. But for patients, he said that drug treatments held more promise than changes to their diets.

“Asparagine is frequently found in various animal sources including beef, poultry, eggs, fish and seafood. It is also found in many vegetables including asparagus, potatoes, nuts, legumes and soy. Since these foods are so common, it seems that diet restriction may not be the ideal approach,” he said.

Another spokesperson said: “This early discovery could offer a long-awaited new way to help stop breast cancer spreading – but we first need to understand the true role of this nutrient in patients. With nearly 11,500 women still dying from breast cancer each year in a country, we urgently need to stop the disease spreading around the body, where it becomes incurable.

“On current evidence, we don’t recommend patients totally exclude any specific food group from their diet without speaking to their doctors. We’d also encourage all patients to follow a healthy and varied diet – rich in fruit, vegetables and pulses, and limited in processed meat and high fat or sugar foods – to help give them the best chance of survival.”

What to Eat & What To Avoid when you've cancer

Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the
gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting
off milk and substituting with unsweetened soy milk cancer
                  cells are being starved.

Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based
diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little other
meat, like chicken. Meat also contains livestock
antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all
harmful, especially to people with cancer.

A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole
grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into
an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked
food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live
enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to
cellular levels within 15 minutes to nourish and enhance
growth of healthy cells. To obtain live enzymes for building
healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most
vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw
vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at
                temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C)..

Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high
caffeine. Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer
fighting properties. Water-best to drink purified water, or
filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap
water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it.

Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of
digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the
intestines becomes putrefied and leads to more toxic
                  buildup.

Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By
refraining from or eating less meat it frees more

enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and
allows the body's killer cells to destroy the cancer cells.

Some supplements build up the immune system
                  (IP6, Flor-ssence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals,
EFAs etc.) to enable the bodies own killer cells to destroy
cancer cells.. Other supplements like vitamin E are known
to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body's
normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or
                  unneeded cells.

Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit.
A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior
be a survivor. Anger, un-forgiveness and bitterness put
the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to
have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy
                 life.

Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated
environment. Exercising daily, and deep breathing help  to
get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen
therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer
                  cells.

           1. No plastic containers in micro.

           2. No water bottles in freezer.

           3. No plastic wrap in microwave..

Dioxin chemicals cause cancer, especially breast cancer. Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic. Recently, Dr Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital , was on a TV program to explain this health hazard. He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers. This especially applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body. Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same results, only without the dioxin. So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else. Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc. He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper The dioxin problem is one of the reasons.

Plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food. Cover food with a paper towel instead.

Nutrition facts & myths

Nutrition fact #1: Fat Will Make You Fat!

Eating fat does not make you fat. In fact, not eating enough fat can make you fat. A study published found that a diet high in healthy fats proved to be superior to a low-fat diet, both in terms of weight loss and overall health benefits. Saturated and trans fats have given fat a bad name, but the truth is that the unsaturated fats found in foods like nuts, salmon, and olive oil are a key component in a healthy diet.

Fact 2- Bread Will Make You Fat!

The low-carb craze of the early 2000s had people terrified of breaking bread, but eating the right kinds of breads and other grains can actually help you lose weight. A study found that overweight people who obtained all of their grain servings from whole grains lost more belly fat than those who skipped the whole grains. The reason: The fiber found in whole grain foods helps slow digestion, keeping you fuller longer. You should still avoid refined grains like "enriched" flour, but a moderate amount of whole grain bread can be a great addition to a balanced diet. Tip: True whole grain bread products will have "whole wheat" or "whole grain" flour as their first ingredient. If you see anything else, your "wheat" bread is an imposter.

Fact 3- Snacking Will Not Make You Fat!
Mom may have told you that eating frequently is a surefire way to pack on the pounds, but she probably also told you that your face will freeze that way. In fact, snacking throughout the day is actually one of the best ways to avoid an expanding waistline. In a recent study,it was found that participants lost significantly more body weight when they added low-sugar, high-protein snacks to their daily food routine, because consistent snacking helps maintain blood-sugar levels, keeping you full and preventing your body from storing excess fat. Two great options for a low-sugar, high-protein snack: nuts and (low-fat) dairy products, like yogurt.

FACT 4- Coffee Doesn't Ruin Your Health!
A  study showed that coffee drinkers were significantly less likely to develop type 2 diabetes, and other research has linked coffee consumption with a reduced risk of Parkinson's disease, dementia, stroke, and depression. And get this:  coffee is the number-one leading source of antioxidants in the American diet. So go ahead, enjoy your morning cup of joe guilt free !

FACT 5- Thinking About Food Will  Not Make You Obsessed With Eating!
Think about other things: Your friends. Your 401(k). The game. Grandma’s dentures. Anything that will get your mind off food, right? Well, no: According to some researchers, thinking about snacks and meals can actually help you stay lean. The study found that when asked questions like, "What will you do if you get hungry two hours before your next meal?" thinner participants were better able to give healthy responses, like "eat a handful of nuts." While fantasizing about how many onion rings you could feasibly fit on a double bacon cheeseburger is probably not going to keep the pounds at bay, taking a proactive approach to your diet by thinking ahead will. Try planning nutritious meals for the week or keeping healthy snacks like fruit and nuts on hand to ward off hunger.

FACT 6- Dessert Will  Not Ruin Your Life!
It is just the contrary- Dessert makes life worth living, and it just might help you stay lean as well. Studies have shown that completely eliminating foods you love can send you sailing straight into binge mode. Is chocolate mud pie good for you? No, and if you feel like you want to cut down on indulgences, go right ahead. But if, like most of us, swearing off sweets instantly causes you to start daydreaming about hot fudge sundaes, you might want to rethink your approach. Try allowing yourself a small dessert every day to satisfy your cravings without doing too much damage.

FACT 7- Red Meat Will Give You a Heart Attack, Only When eaten too much !
It was recently discovered that while eating processed meats like hotdogs and bacon can contribute to heart disease, there is no such risk for people who consume only unprocessed meat. Meat is also a complete protein, providing all nine essential amino acids, and many studies have linked protein consumption with weight loss. Moreover, meat and other animal products are the only dietary sources of vitamin B12, which helps your body make blood cells and maintain a healthy nervous system. But beware: Eating too much saturated fat has been linked to heart disease, so go ahead and include meat in your diet, but opt for the leanest cuts.

FACT 8- Eggs are good !
Perhaps the biggest nutrition myth is that eggs are bad for your heart, a fact attributed to the cholesterol in the yolk. But here's the truth: The dietary cholesterol found in eggs actually has little effect on the amount of cholesterol in your blood. When it comes to increasing LDL ("bad cholesterol"), trans and saturated fats are the real culprits. The incredible, edible egg is actually an excellent, affordable source of protein and B vitamins, and it may help you lose weight.
