6 + 1 Reasons to eat garlic every day

Will you be eating more garlic?

A lot of people love garlic. It’s not just a tasty addition to almost every meal, but it’s also great for your wellbeing! Continue reading and find out why eating garlic is so good for you.

1. Healthy teeth

Research has shown garlic may be a good alternative treatment in treating inflamed gums. Additionally, garlic by nature has antibacterial, antiviral and anti-fungal properties. And that also goes for all the tiny organisms living in your mouth and possibly influencing your health.

2. Fitter feeling

Are you hard at work to improve your fitness? Try adding more garlic to your diet. Research has shown that a particular garlic oil will lighten the load on your heart during exercise.

Additionally, you might enjoy knowing that this was a known fact in ancient times as well. The ancient Greeks would prescribe garlic to the (original) Olympic athletes and people involved in heavy physical work. This would hard labour just a little lighter.

3. Anti-ageing properties

There seems to be decent proof that garlic can work against ‘oxidative stress’, and with that: the process of ageing in and of itself. Wait, what? Simply put: we grow to look older because our bodies convert food and oxygen into energy. However, sometimes our body will be a little too enthusiastic with this process, and destroy other cells in the process. In turn, our skin becomes saggier and our brains become slower. That’s the consequences of ‘oxidative stress’.

In these cases, garlic may be a useful addition to your diet. The smelly herb causes your body to increase the production of substances in the blood that go against the overly enthusiastic oxidation of cells in your body. These substances are commonly known as anti-oxidants. This way, garlic helps to slow down the physical signs of ageing!

4. Garlic makes you more attractive

This might be at odds with your instincts, but it’s true. Of course, we’re all familiar with the effect garlic has on the smell of your breath. But did you know your body odour is also impacted by the vegetable? Research from 2016 has shown the influence of garlic on your bodily smell is actually mostly positive. Participants in a smelling test described the scents of the people who had eaten garlic as ‘less intense’ and ‘more attractive’. This may be because of garlic’s anti-microbial properties. The bacteria that cause the nasty smell of sweat are decreased by the garlic in your body. Be aware: this works best when eating garlic a day before your date. Of course we won’t recommend eating garlic immediately beforehand.

5. Fresh garlic for your immune system

The fact that garlic can contribute to our health was known to our grandmothers and even their grandmothers (and their grandmothers on top of that). The plant has been known for centuries to have properties that work against bacteria, viruses and fungi. For the ultimate boost to your immune system, however you’ll have to eat your garlic raw. When cutting or crushing the garlic, it releases ‘allicin’. This substance has a lot of benefits for your health, but upon heating the garlic, you’ll lose the vast majority of the allicin.

6. Garlic against high blood pressure

At this point, we’re all familiar with the dangers of high blood pressure. We also continue to learn more about the role cholesterol plays here. That’s why nowadays, you’ll quite often hear about products that claim to lower your cholesterol. Garlic, too, is one of those products. Multiple studies have shown that a daily intake of garlic will have long-term effects in lowering your cholesterol. Of course, if you’re dealing with any cardiovascular disease or increased cholesterol levels, you should always get the advice of a medical specialist. Garlic may affect the outcome as a whole, but it’s not a cure-all!

7. Helps reduce cough and phlegm

Boil 300 ml milk with 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric powder, crush/ finely chop 2-3 pearls of garlic, keep it on low flame, stirring from time to time, till it reduces less than half. Then add little sugar, drink it hot, eat the garlic, don't worry, there won't be any garlic smell. Having it daily, helps me to get rid of my cough and phlegm, as I'm a COPD patient along with thyroid cancer !

Of course, I love adding it to most of my dishes, dal, upma, most gravies, as I finely chop and put and fry along with onion, hubby who normally doesn't like garlic, is not able to find out and enjoys the dish !

10 Incredible Health Benefits of Peaches

Peaches are nature's chosen snacks, thanks in part to the many health benefits they contain. The delicious fruits are excellent sources of iron, potassium, magnesium, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and many cancer-fighting antioxidant properties. They can be eaten raw, blended with other health foods as a smoothie, or used as a main ingredient for baking such as desserts like peach cobblers and pies.

You won't believe the numerous health benefits these magical, juicy fruits contain! They are great for losing weight, essential for maintaining healthy blood pressure and can even prevent cancer. You'll definitely want to include them in your diet plan after reading about their amazing health benefits!

10 Incredible Health Benefits of Peaches:

1) Promotes Healthy Skin - Peaches contain high levels of vitamins A and C, which are vital for maintaining proper skin health. Vitamin C acts as a powerful antioxidant to fight off harmful free radical cells, while Vitamin A moisturizes the skin. You can even rub the fruit against your skin to get rid of wrinkles and dark circles.

2) Helps to Prevent Cancer - A peach a day can actually help lower the risk for lung, colon and oral cancers. Peaches contain phenolic acids, which help prevent breast cancer. The acids neutralize the dangerous carcinogenic cell lines before they grow and spread throughout the body.

3) Prevents Heart Disease - Peaches can significantly decrease heart disease by killing off the free radicals that can lead to heart attacks and strokes. Peaches also help regulate a normal heart rate and keep blood pressure in check. It's no wonder why peaches are the chosen snack!

4) Great for Weight  Loss - Peaches should be part of everyone's dietary intake. They are great sources of vitamin C, and contain only 68 calories! So skip the sugary candy bars and go for this sweet tasting fruit instead. You can slice a peach up and add it to your oatmeal, yogurt or salads, for a very interesting taste.

5) Protects Eye Vision - Did you know that peaches actually improve your vision? The beta-carotene found inside the delicious fruits protect your retinas from free radical cell damage, and minimizes the risk for macular degeneration. The carotenoids help guard against other eye diseases, such as night blindness and cataracts.
6) Controls Blood Pressure - The powerful phenolic properties contained inside the peaches are used to fight off oxidation, and promote HDL cholesterol levels (the good guys). The high content of beta-carotene, found in the ripe fruit, also aids in healthy blood flow in the body. The potassium helps you maintain normal blood pressure levels as well.

7) Protects Against Anemia - People who suffer from the iron deficient disease can reap the health benefits of peaches. Peaches help increase the production of hemoglobin in the bloodstream, which combats fatigue and drowsiness symptoms. Those two symptoms are most commonly attributed to the disease.

8) Reduces Inflammation - Peaches help prevent symptoms of redness, swelling and joint discomfort, since they contain extremely high levels of anti-inflammatory components. There are a bunch of anti-inflammatory foods we spoke about in great depth, to protect against various bone diseases.

9) Promotes Healthy Teeth - Peaches are rich in fluoride, which is a vital component for healthy bones and teeth. Fluoride is also essential for prevention of caries, and can even spare you a painful trip to the dentist! Peaches also contain natural sugars, which are healthier substitutes for calorie-dense junk food products.

10) Prevents Bone Disorders - Peaches help treat joint disorders, such as rheumatism and gout, due to the high levels of vitamin A. Peaches combined with ginger, offers a natural soothing remedy to eliminate discomfort and aches in the joints. Here is a recipe for an anti-inflammatory ginger peach smoothie, which is extremely simple to prepare:

What You'll Need:
  • 4 ripe peaches
  • 2 cups of ripe pineapple
  • 1 large piece of ginger
  • 1 cup coconut water or chunks of fresh coconuts
Add all the ingredients into a blender and pulse blend for about 15-30 seconds. To your health!

Why cow milk considered to be a complete meal?

Cow milk has been a part of Indian homes for years and is considered to be a part of an essential diet. However, not many know the health benefits of cow milk in the recent times.

A renowned nutritionist, took it up and shared why cow milk constitutes a part of a healthy diet and why dairy should be an integral part of our everyday meals.

You don’t need to fill a tub with milk and relax like Cleopatra but drinking a glass a day will provide you with wonderful benefits.

Protein – Milk is a complete food in itself as it contains a lot of important nutrients – including a few that most people don’t get enough of – most importantly protein.

For vegetarians, milk is the only source of first class protein (except soy, as the protein that we get from pulses and dal is second class protein).

Calcium – Milk and dairy products are the richest sources of calcium. Calcium is a very important nutrient for kids and teens that are still growing and adding bone mass. It is beneficial for adults as well, especially during pregnancy. It also provides teeth with a natural shield against cavities and tooth decay.

Low in fat – Additionally, cow milk is low in fat, calories and cholesterol as compared to buffalo milk making it great for weight control.

Vitamins – Cow milk is also a very good source of fat- soluble vitamins, such as vitamins A and D. Be it a fruity milkshake or healthy sweets, milk packs the perfect punch of nutrition for all ages.

Ghee made of cow milk is one of the tastiest condiments in traditional Indian cuisine. The creamy aroma and taste from hot parathas, pulav or jalebis, is due to ghee.

Small quantities of ghee – 1 teaspoon a day can be part of a healthy diet, as there is emerging evidence for health benefits of ghee.

Paneer, or cottage cheese, is great for diet-conscious individuals, specially the one made from cow milk. Paneer is a versatile ingredient that can be made into a variety of mouth-watering dishes like cutlets and tikkas. High in protein and calcium, paneer not only is delicious but also keeps you full for longer and is great for weight loss.

Mothers need not be worried if their children averse are averse to milk. In such cases, cheese can come into play. The cheese made from cow milk is extra soft and tasty while being a rich source of protein and calcium.

These ingredients are very important for growing children, for perfect bones and teeth development.
