Brushing Your Teeth Is Good For Your Heart

How could your dental and heart health ever be connected? Well, according to new research conducted in England, there is a rather strong connection between the ways you care for your pearly whites and your chance of suffering a heart attack.

The study, conducted by the Scottish Health Survey, examined over 11,000 individuals of all ages to identify a possible correlation between dental and heart health. Along with information on their dental bill of health, the subjects were asked to provide information about their other lifestyle habits, such as smoking, physical activity, and health routines.

Of the group, about 62 percent said they visited the dentist every six months, and another 71 percent said that they brushed their teeth twice a day. This information lead the researchers to conclude that those that admitted to brushing their teeth less frequently had an extra 70 percent risk of heart disease or heart attack.

"Our results confirmed and further strengthened the suggested association between oral hygiene and the risk of cardiovascular disease," says Richard Watt DDS from the University College London. According to the researchers, the results of the study were not entirely surprising, but rather confirmation of a decade-long hypothesis on the connection between dental diseases and cardiovascular health.

In yet another study conducted in the United States, it was found that as people's gum health decreased, so did the rate at which plaque built up in their arteries. This study showed that the chances of contracting a dangerous condition called atherosclerosis, or the narrowing of the arteries around the heart, decreased when subjects brushed their teeth and had a clean bill of gum and oral health.

But scientifically, how are gum disease and heart disease connected? The bacteria that develops in your mouth when you have gum disease contributes to atherosclerosis in that it adds to the level of inflammation of the arteries and triggering a biological reaction that narrows space these important passage ways. Once you have atherosclerosis, your chances mild to certain that you will experience a heart attack and possibly even stroke.

So the next time you worry about your visit to the dentist, or need a reason to floss your teeth, remember that caring for your oral and gum health properly could dramatically decrease your chances of heart disease and other serious conditions. Make brushing and flossing a regular habit, and you are sure to be on the way to a heart-healthy and happy self!

Loneliness Harm Your Health

Loneliness isn't simply about being alone -- some people are happy on their own. And it’s not how many people you know or how often you see them, or a bad day when you don't feel connected. What matters is to have strong connections. Those who do tend to be happier, healthier, and more productive. Those who don’t may feel isolated, misunderstood, and depressed: lonely. It can take a physical toll, too. But you can take steps to overcome that.

Immune System

If you're lonely for a long time, it may to make it harder for your body to fight sickness. Part of the reason for this may be that loneliness triggers some of the hormones your body makes when you're under stress. And that can dim how well your immune system works, too. Many other things also affect how well your body defends itself. Your doctor can help you pinpoint what changes might help.

Blood Pressure

If you’re lonely -- especially if it lasts for 4 years or longer -- your blood pressure is more likely to go up. Scientists who study this effect can’t prove that loneliness is to blame. But they found that the rise isn't caused by other things like age, gender, diet, or family background.

Exercise

An active lifestyle helps keep you well in body and mind. If you’re lonely, you’re more likely to cut back on or stop your workouts. Don't do that! Stay in the game. Walk with a friend, go to the gym, play a game of neighborhood kickball -- being active with pals is a way to start or grow relationships that make you feel better. Aim for at least 2.5 hours of activity per week. If you have health problems, check with your doctor first.

Mental Sharpness

Your ability to solve problems or remember things as you age is likely to be affected if you feel lonely. And you may have a greater chance of a brain disease like Alzheimer's. Keep in mind that a lot of things affect those risks, and research doesn’t prove that loneliness causes these conditions. But at any age, finding ways to connect with others is wise.

Smoking

You’re more likely to light up when you’re lonely. But this habit is bad for you from head to toe. Smoking is linked to diabetes, heart disease, and lung illnesses, and it affects nearly every organ in your body. Some people reach for a cigarette when they’re stressed. If that’s you, talk with your doctor about how to quit and find other ways to manage stress. Even if it takes more than one try to kick the habit, it’s worth it. Keep at it!

Poor Heart Health

The more lonely you’ve been over your life, the more likely you are to have conditions that affect your heart health: obesity, high blood pressure, and bad cholesterol levels, for example. And women who are lonely may be more likely to get coronary heart disease. Why? There could be many reasons -- like if you smoke, get depressed, or don’t work out when you’re lonely.

Depression

It affects your body as well as your mind. If you’re lonely, you may start to feel bad about your life and get depressed.  And depression can be isolating, so you start to feel even worse. If you have symptoms that are severe or last more than two weeks -- including feeling down or hopeless, less interest in things you usually enjoy, low energy, sleep problems, or appetite changes -- get help. Tell your doctor or call a counselor.

Weight Gain

You’re more likely to add pounds when you’re lonely. Why? You might eat more than usual or unhealthy foods to soothe yourself, or you might stop your workouts. This can make you feel worse about yourself and may also make you more likely to get conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease. So if your weight is going up, it’s a good idea to look at your emotions, as well as your diet and exercise.

Sleep

You might toss and turn more, or have a tough time falling asleep if you're lonely. That can make it harder to focus during the day and put you in a bad mood. It may be bad for your health, too. Over time, poor sleep can make diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, depression, and obesity more likely.

Drinking and Drugs

You may be more likely abuse drugs, including alcohol, if you’re lonely. It may give you a false sense of feeling better, but it doesn’t last and will backfire. Over time, it can seriously damage your body, family, work life, and relationships.

What About 'Me' Time?

Everyone is different. You may need more time on your own to recharge, compared with someone who’s more of an extrovert. That can be healthy and normal. It’s only a problem if you feel too disconnected from other people. This can happen if you stay on your own too much. But it can also happen if you simply don’t feel understood or cared for -- even if there are lots of people around.

Take Action

Look for ways to connect. Interested in chess, hiking, tennis, bridge, or books? Join a club and get to know others with the same interests. Make plans with friends and family. Talk to them about how you feel. If you find it really hard to connect with people -- even those you know well -- it may help to talk with a therapist. Take care of yourself, too: Regular exercise, good sleep, and eating for wellness can boost your mood.

When You Need Help

Almost everyone feels a little lonely now and then. But if you try to reconnect and still feel isolated after several weeks, or if you’re so lonely, depressed, or anxious that it gets in the way of your work or home life, tell your doctor. You can get help -- things like therapy, lifestyle changes, and medicine for certain conditions -- to get back on your feet.

Health Benefits And Bad Effects Of Kissing

Kissing may be the simplest way to express affection with other people. We kiss the babies’ chubby faces, the friends’ cheeks, and lovers’ lips to show our feelings as well as the desire for closeness. Also, kissing may be one of the natural tool for social bonding.

1. Makes One More Alert

This is the first one of the best benefits of kiss that I want to mention in this entire article. Kissing often boosts the release of noradrenaline and adrenaline, which increase your heart rate, make you feel more excited and alert. And then your body can prepare for any kind of action.

2. Helps You Feel Connected

Kissing can also help you feel connected and closer to your partner. According to a study about oxytocin  when you kiss your lover, your brain will increase the level of oxytocin, which has a calming power and strengthens trust and bonding between couples. Some other studies have also suggested that higher levels of oxytocin are associated with empathy, relationship longevity and support.

3. Improve Lungs Health

After kissing, our breathing often becomes faster. On average, we will breathe in and out about 60 times per minute while the normal number is only 20 times per minute. According to a research about breathing , inhaling and exhaling more often can help prevent many lung-related disorders. Actually, improving lungs health is one of the best benefits of kiss for human health that you should not look down.

4. Increase Longevity

Other biological benefits of kiss that I want to mention in this article must include increasing longevity. According to a study, kissing your partner every morning may help him live longer than 5 years if compared to other couples who never do that. Unfortunately, this effect of kissing is not true for female; therefore, they should kiss their guys every morning in order to boost their emotional relationship.

5. Improve Your Relationship Satisfaction
Other benefits of kiss that you should know must include its ability to improve the relationship satisfaction. Romantic kissing can help strengthen feelings of attachment to your partner who you are taking kisses, hence improving the relationship satisfaction. According to a study, more frequent kissing was related to the perceived feelings of couples about the relationship’s quality.

6. Stimulate Sexual Compatibility
This is also one of the best health benefits of kiss. Actually, kissing is a great way to stimulate your partner with sexual compatibility before getting naked and getting emotionally involved. The testosterone, which is the hormone for sex drive in both men and women, is released into saliva during kissing.

7. Boost The Self-Esteem
Kissing can help you boost your self-esteem.  According to a study, men who take a passionate kiss before getting out of their homes can get more motivation and then make more money. Therefore, it is said that kissing and home-life happiness can make us happier and more productive at work and simultaneously improve the self-esteem. In fact, this is one of the best benefits of kiss that I want all of my readers to know.

8. Keeps Teeth White
Having a kiss is a great way for you to clean your teeth and make them white. According to a research about effects of kissing on oral health, kissing can produce saliva which is responsible for keeping bacteria away. And this can help in inhibiting cavities and simultaneously breaking down the oral plaque. Addition to this, saliva can also wash out your mouth and inhibit the cavity that is the main cause of food particles and tooth decay. Therefore, if you want to get whiter and cleaner teeth, you should kiss your partner every day.

9. Relieve Stress

Relieving stress is one of the best health benefits of kiss that you should not skip. Kissing is an effective way to reduce the stress levels because your head is filled up with positive feelings right after you kiss your lover. Simultaneously, it helps reduce the level of cortisol in the body, which is a stress hormone, thus making you relaxed. You can exclude all of the sorrows from your life with a passionate kiss. Therefore, you should have a passionate kiss with your lover to feel relaxed rather than taking in anti-depressant pills.
When kissing, the brain can release the hormone serotonin, which improves the mood and the hormone dopamine, which regulates the feelings of desire and bonding. And during a passionate kiss, you will enjoy a peaceful mind without having any worry and sorrow. In other words, by reducing the stress hormones, the body can have a better process of healing any physiological processes caused by stress, and simultaneously help have more positive behavior and mental health

10. Check Out The Partner’s Compatibility
Checking out your lover’s compatibility is another one of the best benefits of kiss that you should know. Kissing is a great way to initially attract others, especially women. Women might put more importance on kisses as they consider them as a means of starting and developing the relationship between them and their partners.

11. Release Happy Hormones
Releasing happy hormones is another one of the health benefits of kiss that you should not look down. Actually, kissing can stimulate your brain to release chemicals of good feelings, including serotonin, oxytocin as well as dopamine. These chemicals are necessary for your happiness and they also aid to strengthen the relationship between you and your lover. Besides, your lips are packed with sensory neurons, which will be prompted when your lips have the touch with your partner’s lips. Addition to this, kissing links to addiction and reward and it is a great way to boost the brain system associated with romantic love, attachment and sex drive.

12. Tones Facial Muscles

It is amazing to know that toning facial muscle is one of the biological benefits of kiss. A vigorous kiss can help tone up the jawline and neck by performing lots of facial muscles. Addition to this, a kiss also helps boost the blood circulation to facial muscles.
Apart from toning facial muscles, kissing also helps tone muscles of the body. According to a research, a kiss associated with approximately 112 postural muscles of the whole body aside from nearly 34 facial muscles. Kissing also boosts the production of elastin and collagen, which are the keys for beautiful skin. As a result, kissing can help keep your muscles tight, making your face more youthful.

13. Cures Allergies
A kiss can improve the immune system and cure allergies as well. Actually, kissing can cause a decreased level of IgE antibodies, which take responsibility for releasing the histamine. The histamine release causes a few allergy symptoms such as watery eyes and sneezing. As a result, more kisses you have, fewer allergy symptoms you will suffer from.

14.  Burns Calories
When it comes to benefits of kiss, burning calories may be what you should know. A passionate kiss can help burn off 2-3 calories per minute when it lasts 20 seconds. Kissing and having sexual activity are considered as vigorous exercises in case you are fully engaged. Addition to this, when you kiss your lover, your heart will be able to skip a beat and even your heartbeat can be faster. And then, it releases adrenaline with other neurotransmitters getting into the blood as well. The increased levels of adrenaline can help increase the process of burning calories and metabolism.

15. Aids Digestion Of Babies
When a mother kisses her baby, this action is very good for the baby’s digestion. Through a kiss, the baby can receive all of the essential nutrients for growing up healthy along with breastfeeding.
Keep reading this article to discover other amazing benefits of kiss that you should not look down.

16. Fight Cavities
Fighting cavities is also another one of the best health benefits of kiss. When kissing, there is an increased production of saliva in the mouth and this can help you wash away plaque on your teeth, which is known as the main cause of cavities, tooth decay as well as plaque build-up. Addition to this, the bacteria that may cause cavity can be transferred through kisses, especially when your partner has unhealthy oral health.

17. Boost Immunity
Boosting the immune system is also one of the health benefits of kiss that I want to mention in this article. According to a study, kissing can help protect women from Cytomegalovirus, which is known to be able to cause infant blindness as well as other birth defects that can be contracted through the mouth during pregnancy. Addition to this, kissing has been thought to be a great way to help people pass along bugs, hence improving the body’s defenses.

 18. Improve Cardiovascular Health

Kissing can help you improve your cardiovascular health naturally and effectively. This is because that this emotional action can keep your cholesterol and blood pressure at a low level. According to a study, married couples who have the frequency of kiss reported that they have reduced stress and cholesterol levels and increased relationship satisfaction.

Besides, kissing can make you have a healthy heartbeat, helping in dilating the blood vessels to get a healthy blood flows to all the vital body’s organs. Addition to this, when kissing, a hormone called Adrenaline will be released, which aids in improving heart health by stimulating the heart to pump more blood. And then the blood pressure and circulation will be well controlled. Moreover, stress is one of the leading causes of heart disease. Therefore, a kiss can help reduce stress, thus making it good for preventing some cardiovascular problems.

19. Relieves Pain

Another one of the health benefits of kiss is to relieve pains, especially the back pain, headaches as well as menstrual cramps.
Sometimes, you can suffer from back pain and you can take kisses to reduce the pain. The reason for that is kisses release hormone called endorphins in the body, which can help relieve pain. Apart from relieving back pain, kissing can also help you relieve headache and menstrual cramps. So, if you are suffering from pains, simply come and then kiss your lover.

There are some bad effects of kissing you should know
  • Kissing can be addictive. During kissing, the body produces more dopamine, which makes us feel happy and relaxed and this can make many people want to kiss their partners.
  • Kissing can transmit bacteria. A long kiss can transmit nearly10 million bacteria
  • Kissing can cause some mental problems. During kissing, you can experience some symptoms such as seeing in disorders, difficulty hearing and paralysis .
  • Kissing can cause pain in gums and throat. This occurs when the bacteria streptococcus attack somebody and then pass on to their partners through saliva
  • Kissing can bring other diseases. Kissing can also transmit other diseases, including acute respiratory infection, Hepatitis, tuberculosis, and Typhoid.
Prevention-
  • Maintain oral hygiene. Brush the teeth every morning and every night before bed or after the meal.
  • Avoid kissing if you or your partner is having disease or injuries on the lips.
  • Inject immune to the disease’s virus by vaccination. Ask a doctor about what vaccines that can be used to prevent a virus or bacteria being passed-on while kissing.

The Testes Are Connected to The Immune System

Some parts of the body – including the tissues of the brain and testes – have long been considered to be completely hidden from our immune system.

Last year scientists made the amazing discovery that a set of previously unseen channels connected the brain to our immune system; now, it appears we might also need to rethink the immune system's relationship with the testes, potentially explaining why some men are infertile and how some cancer vaccines fail to provide immunity.

Researchers from University of Virginia School of Medicine discovered a 'very small door' which allows the testes to expose some of its antigens to the immune system without letting it inside.

For the past four decades the testes have been regarded as having 'immune privilege', meaning they don't mount an immune response when introduced to materials the immune system considers foreign.

Together with the brain, eyes, and placenta, inflammation in these parts of the body would be seriously bad news, which could explain why they are all physically or chemically hidden from the white cells and antibodies which protect us from infection.

This 'immunity from immunity' means any sperm outside of the testes can produce an autoimmune reaction, proving that the body considers its own sperm as foreign.

At least that's the current thinking, which might need to be modified if this new research is verified.

Separating the sperm-producing tissues in the testes from the blood vessels is a layer of tissue called Sertoli cells, serving as a kind of nurse cell to the developing sperm.

Sertoli cells lock together in such a way that they effectively form what's called a 'blood-testes barrier', preventing T-cells in the blood from sniffing out the growing sperm.

The system works well, but isn't foolproof – in up to 12 percent of men with spontaneous infertility, the immune system recognises a chemical on the surface of sperm cells called the meiotic germ cell antigen (MGCA), suggesting they've met previously and don't tolerate it as native to the body.

The immunologists hypothesised this particular autoimmune response might say more about a break-down in tolerance than a break in the blood-testes barrier, suggesting that there were reasons to suspect MGCA wasn't as hidden as previously thought.

By focusing on two types of MGCA in normal and genetically altered mice and analysing the mouse's T-cell tolerance to the antigens, the researchers found the Sertoli cells can 'leak' some types of the antigen into the blood vessels.

"In essence, we believe the testes antigens can be divided into those which are sequestered [behind the barrier] and those that are not," said researcher Kenneth Tung.

Not only could this discovery provide insight into how infertility can arise in some men, it could also help immunologists understand how cancer cells sequester, or hide, their own antigens, explaining why certain cancer vaccines can fail.

"Antigens which are not sequestered would not be very good cancer vaccine candidates," said Tung.

So far, the research has only been done on mice and is yet to be confirmed in humans, but it lays the groundwork for exciting new research into the subtle interactions across a wall which was previously considered to be impermeable to the immune system.

Just last year, a team of researchers from the same university uncovered a network of channels in the nervous system of mice and humans that crossed a similar barrier between the blood and the brain, prompting excitement at having the "rewrite the textbooks".

Once again, it might seem the guides on immunology might need a new edition.

This research was published in  The Journal of Clinical Investigation.
