If you suffer from chronic bad breath, then mouthwash may not be enough, especially if you only use it in the morning. However, there are plenty of natural remedies that can keep your breath fresh for a long time, and also help solve the problem that caused it in the first place. Here are some easy and natural solutions anyone can use, and we're sure that out of all the items on this list, you'll find something that works for you.

Mint - Chew fresh mint leaves during the day to neutralize bad breath over the long-term. It also works with basil, rosemary and parsley.
he first place. Here are some easy and natural solutions anyone can use, and we're sure that out of all the items on this list, you'll find something that works for you.

Parsley - Parsley in particular has a high level of chlorophyll, so a great solution is to chew a few parsley stems dipped in vinegar for immediate relief. If you swallow the leaves after chewing, they will get digested and will continue to freshen your breath for quite some time. The reason is that these leaves reduce the amount of gas created in the bowel by promoting better digestion.
An infusion of cloves - Prepare a home-made mouthwash by mixing three buds of cloves, or a quarter-spoonful of ground cloves, with two cups of hot water. Let it soak for 20 minutes while stirring occasionally. Filter, cool and use as a mouthwash that you can gargle twice a day.
Fresh vegetables - Chew vegetables such as carrots, celery or lettuce to keep your mouth clean and your breath fresh.
Apples - Eat an apple on a daily basis to neutralize bad odors. The best time to do so is in the morning.
Apple Vinegar - Consume a tablespoon of apple vinegar before each meal.
Hazelnuts - Chew hazelnuts very slowly until they absorb all the bad odor in your mouth.
Lemon - Suck on a slice of lemon with salt on it to get rid of the smell of onions or garlic.
Drinking Baking Soda - A solution that will help reduce the amount of acidity in the mouth. Make sure to brush your teeth with baking soda every couple of days. It won't only bring some shine to your teeth, but will also neutralize those bad odors. You can put some baking soda on a wet toothbrush or dip the toothbrush (with the toothpaste) in the powder.
Gargling Salt - Mix a spoonful of salt in a glass of water and gargle for 30 seconds without swallowing.
Tea tree oil - The tea tree oil contains a powerful disinfectant mixture. Try to use a toothpaste that contains the oil, or pour a few drops of it on your toothbrush.

Cinnamon - Suck on a little piece of cinnamon peel during the day to alleviate bad breath.
Aromatic Spices - Chew cardamom, cloves or sage to neutralize bad breath. Our recommendation is to choose the aromatic spices that are tasty and also release aromatic oils.
Hydrogen Peroxide - Dilute with 50% water and pour 5-10 drops in each nostril. Blow strongly until the sinuses open. This will resolve that bad odor that originates from blocked sinuses.

Citrus Fruit - Bad breath is often the result of simple mouth dryness. If this is the case, just eat some citrus fruit that have a lot of lemon acid, such as oranges, lemons or grapefruits. They can significantly improve your breath. The acid in these fruits encourages the production of saliva, which helps get rid of some of the odor-causing bacteria.

Natural Ways to Whiten Your Teeth

We all love seeing white, pearly smiles, and would love for our teeth to shine. However, our coffee, nicotine and other habits make this extremely difficult, and we end up with either stained or yellow teeth, that make us feel we are not getting our money's worth out of our smile! Although there are many whitening products, they don't all work and some have nasty side-effects.
Here are 10 natural solutions that will whiten your teeth without subjecting your to other problems.

1. Carbon powder
Carbon is an absorbing material, which is capable of absorbing toxins, chemicals and acidic stains, leading them out of the body through the excretion system. Since it doesn't absorb into the body but only passes the digestion system, it is considered an effective solution to clean toxins. The same effect applies in the mouth cavity. Not only does the carbon help prevent gum disease and kills bacteria in the mouth, it can also whiten our teeth by absorbing the stains that accumulate on the tooth.

Dip a clean wet tooth brush in carbon powder and clean your teeth with little circular motions for 2 minutes. Then carefully and thoroughly rinse your mouth until all the powder is gone. Don't worry, it comes right off!

2. Aloe

The aloe plant has a long history as a healing agent, and although it is most known as skin medicine, recent research indicates it might be great for our teeth and gums. In 2009, the Academy for general dentisty in the US, found that smearing some aloe gel on the teeth may purify and calm down inflammation, as well as operate against bacteria. In addition, it was found that it can be used as a natural tooth whitener.

The best way to do so is use an extract of the center of the leaf. It's popularity as a tooth whitener has risen in recent years.

Please Note: Do not swallow the aloe gel as it may cause stomach cramps. Also, it is not recommend for use by pregnant women.

3. Banana

Another natural solution to whitening our teeth is found in the form of the banana peel. Research has found that the minerals inside the peel, such as Potassium and bromine, help whiten the teeth naturally without doing damage.

Cut the peel to little pieces, then rub the internal side of the banana on your teeth and do nothing for 15 minutes. Then rinse your mouth well. Some say the same can be achieved with an orange peel, and the same procedure applies.

4. Drinking Soda

One of the most common natural whitening solutions is drinking soda. Some mix it with regular toothpaste until a lumpy texture is achieved while some mix it with 3% Hydrogen peroxide, which serve as an anti-bacterial agent and keep the teeth and gum safe from bacteria.

5. Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide can be used as its own whitening agent, if used as mouth wash. use a mix of 1:1 water and hydrogen peroxide and gurgle for about a minute. This will also neutralize bad odors and cleanse the mouth from bacteria.

6. Strawberries

One of the most popular solutions is the strawberry. The secret to this method is the malic acid found in the strawberry and which removes stains from the tooth coating, even hard stains like wine, cigarette and coffee stains. The method is to crush the strawberries to a pulp and then mix with drinking soda to get a thick and homogenous mixture.

Use a soft toothbrush to spread the mixture on the teeth. Leave for 5 minutes and then brush throughly with regular toothpaste to remove the rest of the mixture. If needed, use dental floss to get rid of any strawberry seeds.

However, don't over-use this method, as over time it can damage your tooth coating.

7. Fibers

Many believe that eating foods rich in fiber, like: Apples, pears, carrots, celery, broccoli and lettuce - can be used as a peeling technique for the teeth. The vitamins and minerals in these foods clean the tooth without damaging its coating.

8. Dairy Products

Recent research supports the recommendation to eat a small amount of cheese after a meal, as the calcium and phosphorus increase the tooth mineral coating, creating more white teeth. Milk and yogurt help keep the mouth cavity clean and shiny, and also strenghten the teeth.

9. Olive Oil

Many will testify to the usefullness of olive oil in whitening the teeth. THere are 2 ways to use it before brushing our teeth.

One: Add a few drops to your tooth brush.
Two: Drip a few drops of olive oil on a clean hand towel and smear on the teeth.

10. Apple Vinegar

Apple vinegar can get insistent stains out, especially affective against coffee and nicotine stains. The result is not immediate, but with time (and after rinsing to make sure the acidity doesn't damage the teeth), you will see some nice results. After using it, though, brush and rinse throughly.

Effective Home Remedies for an Aching Throat

The throat itches, is swollen and burning, and even the simple act of swallowing becomes a scary prospect? You're not alone! Throat aches are some of the most common phenomenon as we move into the winter season.

Here are 10 ways you can calm that aching throat down without having to go see a doctor:

1. Keep your nasal passageways open

Doctors agree that two of the most common causes of throat pain are the buildup of snot and dryness, that occur mostly from breathing too much through the mouth when the nasal passageways are closed.

There are materials that fight nose congestion, especially those containing Pseudofrin (no need to doctor's note) which will help open the nasal passageways.

Using nose sprays (with a salt water solution) may also help keep those passageways open and breathing easier.

2.  Home remedies to gargle with:

Salt Water: This is the old favorite, and you can create it by mixing 1/4 teaspoon of salt in 1 cup of warm water (the warmer the better, within your tolerance levels, don't let it get cold or loses effectiveness). If you have it at home, this is a good time to add 1 tablespoon of Listerine for its germ killing benefits. This you gargle several times a day, and will help you to rinse and neutralize acids in your throat. You will notice that the burning sensation is going down and the area will usually start to heal. Don't let up on the gargling.

Raspberry Tea: Pour a glass of boiling water on 2 tea spoons of raspberry dried leaves, soak for 10 minutes and then filter. You can add 1 tea spoon of apple vinegar and/or honey, and then gargle 4 times a day.

Sage Leaves: Mix 1 spoon of sage leaves with 1 cup of boiling water, soak for 10 minutes and then filter.  You can add 1 tea spoon of apple vinegar and/or honey, and then gargle 4 times a day.

Turmeric: For a burning sensation in your throat, mix 1 cup of boiling water with 1/2 a spoon of turmeric (anti inflammation) and 1/2 a spoon of salt. Gargle twice a day. If you hate gargling, you can also mix 1/2 a spoon of turmeric with 1 glass of hot milk, and slowly sip it.

Hot sauce and water: Hot peppers containt a material called capsicum which alleviates pain and reduce inflammation. You can prepare this by grinding a cayenne pepper and adding 5 shakes of the ground material to a cup of hot water. Warning: it WILL burn, buy try to gargle this every 15-30 minutes and see if it does the trick.

When the body is aching and weak, logic dictates that you rest. Same goes for throat ache. It's very important to save up your energy, to allow the body to fight the infection. If the throat pain doesn't require medical attention, resting will help cut down the healing time.

3. Rest

What does resting have to do with a sore throat? A lot. While you rest, your body has more energy to fight the infection in your throat. If you've taken some of our home remedies, be sure to rest between to give your body a fighting chance.

4. Vinegar

A useful home remedy based on apple vinegar: Take 1 cup of hot water and mix 1 table spoon of honey and 1 table spoon of apple vinegar.  Sip slowly without letting the liquid cool down. Drink as often as possible.

For gargling: Mix 1 spoon of salt, 1/2 a cup of vinegar and 1 cup of hot water. Drink every 15 minutes as needed.

* Be sure to melt the salt in the vinegar before adding the water.

5.  Horseradish Cocktail

A traditional Russian remedy: Mix 1 cup of hot water with 1 table spoon of pure horseradish (or a horseradish root) with 1 table spoon of honey and 1 table spoon of cloves. Sip slowly over the course of an hour.

6. Citrus Fruits

Lemon Juice: Mix 1 cup of hot water with 1 table spoon of honey and 1
table spoon of squeezed lemon juice. Sip slowly.

Lime Juice: Mix 1 table spoon of lime juice with 1 table spoon of honey in hot water, and drink as needed.

7. Steam

An old remedy for an aching throat is a steam tent. Sit with your face over a steaming bowl of hot water and cover your head with a towel to keep the steam in. Add 1-2 drops of Eucalyptus extract for a much greater help.

8. Lozenges

Some doctors say that sugar can help reduce throat ache and accompanying cough, but even Lozenges without sugar can calm down an aching throat by keeping your mouth and throat moist, which will make you feel less pain.

9. Popsicles

An ice popsicle can calm down a burning throat. Make sure you aren't sucking on the popsicle, but cutting small pieces and letting them melt in your mouth.

10. Drink plenty of liquids

This may go without saying, but when you suffer from an aching throat, you should drink at least 8-10 cups of water a day (preferably not cold water). This will keep your throat well oiled, will prevent the dry feeling you get and even aid the fight against inflammation.

NATURAL REMEDIES FOR ARTHRITIS

Arthritis Remedy #1: Hot Peppers

How they work: All chilli peppers, including cayenne, contain a substance called capsaicin, a natural analgesic that may help relieve arthritis pain, research shows.

A gel with 0.0125% capsaicin was an effective treatment in mild to moderate osteoarthritis pain in knees, according to a study.

“The exact mechanism is unknown and being studied, but it’s believed that capsaicin relieves pain and itching by acting on sensory nerves,” says a Dr. “[It] depletes or interferes with substance P, a naturally produced chemical involved in transmitting pain impulses to the brain.”

Without neurotransmitters, pain signals can no longer be sent to joints.

“The amount of capsaicin determines how long relief lasts, and the effect is temporary,” Dr.  advises. “The hotter the pepper, the more capsaicin it contains.”

Eating hot peppers also causes the release of endorphins, hormones released in the body that produce a feeling of well-being, which act as the body’s own pain medication.

How to use it: Don’t eat hot peppers, especially if you have digestive issues, Dr.  advises. Using rubs and creams with capsaicin are safer, because the cream works by desensitizing the surface nerve receptors in the painful areas.

Creams with up to 0.075 % capsaicin are generally sold in health food stores, pharmacies and groceries.

Start with a low dose if you’ve never used it before. And beware: You may feel a burning sensation the first few times the cream is applied until you get used to the product, Dr. Lewis warns.

Arthritis Remedy #2: Gin-soaked raisins

How they work: Gin gets its flavour from juniper berries, which have the anti-inflammatory compound terpinen, says  a registered clinical dietitian who specializes in working with patients with arthritis.

“Raisins contain the compounds ferulic acid, gentisic acid and salicylic acid, which have all been found to be pain relievers,” .

How to use it: “You can use golden or regular raisins, but golden are preferred because they’re treated with sulphur dioxide to prevent darkening of the raisin,”. “Sulphur dioxide has been associated with a reported decrease in arthritis pain.”

The most common recipe is to empty a small box of golden raisins into a bowl and cover them with gin (pour just enough gin to cover the raisins). Allow the gin to evaporate (about one week). (Don’t let raisins dry out completely.)

Eat only 8-9 gin-soaked raisins a day.

Avoid this remedy if you have a history of alcohol or substance abuse.

Arthritis Remedy#3: Cider vinegar

How it works: Cider vinegar can dissolve hard deposits from arthritic joints and stop the condition from getting worse, according to Dr.  But if joints are actually worn away, they can only be surgically replaced, he says.

“Apple cider vinegar may help restore alkaline-acid balance [in your body], and disperse acid crystals that build up in joints and cause osteoarthritis pain,” says Dr.

Added health bonus: Cider vinegar can control blood pressure and is a natural diuretic. It  can help with calcium deficiency, by assisting your body to deal more effectively with the calcium content of food.

Like all natural remedies for arthritis, this isn’t for all patients with osteoarthritis pain, and it might not help with severe forms of the disease, says Dr. And it could take a few weeks to see results.

How to use it: Cider vinegar works both internally and applied topically.

To drink it, mix 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in 8 ounces water. Add 2 teaspoons of honey to enhance the taste (unless you have diabetes).

“Diabetics shouldn’t add honey, as this increases sugar,” warns Dr.

Repeat up to three times a day.
For topical use, mix 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar with 1-1/2 cups warm water. Soak the painful joint in the solution for 10 minutes. If you can’t soak the joint – for example, your knee or shoulder – dip a cloth in the mixture and place it on the affected area.

Repeat as needed, up to four times daily. You might end up smelling like salad dressing, but that will dissipate after a few hours or a shower.

Arthritis Remedy #4: Cherries
How they work:  cherries have been shown to inhibit the development of inflammation and pain, says  a rheumatologist.

cherries are rich in anthocyanins, potent anti-oxidants that are important in health and controlling inflammation.

More than half of patients enrolled in  pilot study  had a significant improvement in knee pain and function after taking cherry pills for eight weeks.

While researchers aren't sure how they work, “these cherries have a lot of the same properties of common anti-inflammatory medicines like ibuprofen or naproxen,” says Dr.

How to use them:

If you don’t want to take a supplement, eat a handful of cherries daily, Dr. suggests.
“Cherry juice can also ease symptoms, but contain a lot of sugar, which can lead to weight gain, so it isn't recommended. .

Arthritis Remedy #5: Pectin

Pectin is a natural plant fiber used to thicken jams and jellies or for canning, says Dr.

Extracted mostly from citrus fruits, pectin may lower cholesterol levels and ease osteoarthritis symptoms too.

“Like many food remedies, we don’t know why it works, yet it continues to be one of the more easy-to-find and inexpensive natural remedies for arthritis that many patients find helpful to ease inflammation and pain,” says Dr.

But it doesn’t work for everyone. In fact, Dr.  says, if you don’t notice a change in symptoms within 2-3 weeks of using pectin, it probably won’t work for you.

It’s as safe as eating pie, he adds. “Except if you eat just the pectin, you won’t have all the calories and sugar commonly found in pie.”

How to use it: The best way to consume pectin, which is normally found on your grocer’s shelves as a powder, is to add it to foods or drinks.

For example, mix 1-3 tablespoons of pectin in 8 ounces of a low-sugar beverage.

“Drink this mixture 1-2 times a day, for up to two weeks,” says Dr.  “If it’ll ease your symptoms, you’ll see results in as few as 7 or as many as 21 days.”

As the pain disappears, you can reduce the amount of pectin to 1 teaspoon and drink the mixture once or twice a day as needed, he advises.

However, Dr. recommends a meal plan, which focuses on whole grains, nuts, vegetables, fruits and fibre, to help maintain a healthy weight,” Dr. says. “Being overweight can increase symptoms like pain and stress on joints.”

ALWAYS CONSULT WITH YOUR PHYSICIAN BEFORE YOU TRY ANYTHING, IN CASE YOU'RE ALLERGIC TO SOMETHING, OR BECAUSE OF OTHER HEALTH PROBLEMS, SOME FOOD ITEMS CAN BE BANNED FOR YOU.
