5 Secrets For Caring For Your Hands

Your hands generally give away your age a lot quicker than your face. But with proper care, and this handy advice, your hands will keep your age hidden for longer.

Wash your hands correctly

Too much soap can make your hands dry and flaky, so keep these essential tips in mind:

• Don't use antibacterial soap unless absolutely necessary. Opt for a moisturizing soap instead, such as one with jojoba oil, olive oil or aloe vera.

• Wash your hands with warm, but not hot water - this will help preserve the natural protective layer.

• As opposed to electric dryers, opt for paper towels instead.

Wear gloves

Hands are constantly affected by external factors such as cold, chemicals and dry air. To minimize the damage to your skin, wear gloves as follows:

• Use leather, fur gloves or mittens for cold weather.

• Wear rubber or latex gloves for household chores - washing the dishes, mopping floors, cleaning the bathtub etc.

• Use cloth gloves for gardening.

Moisten your hands regularly
Your hands need scrubbing and masks at least once a week:

• Make a hand mask from the products you have in your fridge. Mix half an avocado, an egg yolk and a tablespoon of lemon juice, applying it to your hands and letting it rest for 20 minutes.

• Use a mix of olive oil and sugar as a scrub.

• If using a body scrub, apply that to your hands.

Use sunscreen
Hyperpigmentation can make your hands look older than your age. But this does not occur due to aging or liver dysfunction, but rather, the effect of the sun. To avoid pigment spots do the following:

• Regularly apply sunscreen to your hands.

• Citrus fruits are a good natural 'whitener,' so make a mask out of 1 tbsp lemon juice,1 tbsp milk, and 1 tsp honey.

Do you suffer from dry hands? These are ways to easily get rid of dryness!

dry hands

6 tips to make your hands soft again

Washing our hands often is extremely important for our health, but it takes its toll in another area. Due to the intensive use of soap and water, many of us now walk around with dry or wrinkled hands. Fortunately, there are simple ways to get your dry hands soft and supple again. We have listed these below.

1. Make lubrication part of your washing routine

Wash your hands for twenty seconds, between the fingers and up to the wrist, and dry them with a clean cloth. The step-by-step hand washing routine has been well memorized in recent months. However, we recommend that you add an extra step: use a hand cream. Always have a jar of hand cream or vaseline ready near the wash basin and rub your hands every time after drying. This way they stay baby-soft.

2. Choose a hand cream without perfume and alcohol

Before you apply a hand cream, it is important to take a look at what kind of product you’re actually using. Hand creams with perfume and alcohol are not a good idea, because these ingredients can dry your skin even more. Ingredients such as honey, aloe vera and snail slime, on the other hand, are quite gentle on the skin. No hand cream at home? In general, face cream also works great on your hands. Finally, bear in mind that the sun’s rays can cause rapid aging of the skin, so for smooth and soft hands protect yourself by avoiding excessive exposure to the sun.

3. Take a beauty sleep

And by that we mean just at night! Coat your hands with a thick layer of cream and put on cotton gloves before you go to bed. The next morning you will notice how hydrated your hands are. You can find cotton gloves at the drugstore or pharmacy.

4. Warm your hands

Warm hands have better blood flow. This blood flow indirectly ensures renewal of the skin cells and a stronger connective tissue. Warmer hands therefore retain more moisture and dry out less quickly. So, occasionally shake your hands to start the blood flow, or rub your hands to warm them.

5. Do not use too many disinfectant gels

These gels usually have high levels of alcohol, which is intended to kill bacteria, but the alcohol also dries out your hands severely. Avoiding hand gel altogether may not be a good idea now that you want to sanitize your hands regularly, but choosing water and soap more often is better for your skin.

6. Wear household gloves

Washing your hands isn’t the only thing that dries out your hands. Household chores like washing dishes and cleaning windows have the same effect. For velvety hands, it is better to use household gloves, or of course, leave the dishes to your partner.

Coronavirus Preventions: 6 Practical Tips to Follow Without Shutting off Yourself from the World

With the World Health Organization (WHO) declaring COVID-19 a pandemic, there is panic all around. The last few days have seen over 1,18,000 cases of the coronavirus illness in over 110 countries and territories around the globe, which will further spread more.

With nothing much known about the coronavirus when it comes to getting cured of it, there is a wave of fear around. The announcement somewhere adds on to the ongoing horror. However, to put the meaning of word pandemic simply it means, "Widespread of a new disease".

“This is not just a public health crisis; it is a crisis that will touch every sector. So every sector and every individual must be involved in the fights," said Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO director-general, at a media briefing.

The global outbreak has already informed us about which marks will work and which won't. How to cough (use your inner elbow), wash your hands and keep them sanitized. But it's time to implement some practical changes to avoid coronavirus altogether and not isolate ourselves or panic.

When we talk about safety it just doesn't involve you but also people around you.

Give A Break To Your Fingertips

Need to press a button or open the door? Let go of your fingertips and start using other parts of your body to do the same. Use your knee, feet, elbow, and knuckles. You might find it odd initially but eventually, you will get used to it.
For example, open the doors using your hip or elbow instead of your hands or cover your hands with the sleeves of whatever you are wearing to turn the knob. It is always easier to throw the clothes for a quick wash instead of touching everything with your skin. Follow this religious especially when travelling to cafes/restaurants or crowded eateries.

It's Okay To Not Hug Or Shakehands

While these are social gestures. We can surely give it a pass until things come under control. Sometimes you need to understanding that the step of social distancing is being taken place from the sole perspective to protect health.

Your Phone Is Everything

Our lives revolve around our phones. We begin and end our day with the same. First and foremost how about you avoid taking your phone to the washroom? Make sure you are wiping your phone with disinfectants.
Avoid keeping your phone anywhere; make sure the surface is clean. The best place to keep your phone is your jeans or coat pocket than any filthy place.

Say No To The Buffet, Food Counters And Roadside Eateries

We Indians are obsessed with food. At times food takes priority over health. But this is just not the right time for it. It's a common practice where people often take food with their bare hands from the spread. How safe is that?
When eating a roadside sandwich or other savouries, the vendor often mixes things using his bare hand. This should be the reason enough for you to take a break. However, many restaurants are taking measures and have kept sanitisers at every table requesting customers to use it before eating.

Wash Your Hands and Carry The Essentials

Make sure the first thing you do is washing your hands as soon as you enter your home. When you know you are going to spend certain time at someplace making sure you wash your hands as you enter and leave.
If you are someone who uses contact lenses, this is a must practice for you as you often touch your eyes. Carry sanitizer, wet wipes, and facial tissues as many as you can. Before opening the door or touching your phone, use the tissue for cleaning purposes.

Go Cashless

Money is an essential part of our day to day life. However, one piece of the currency goes through thousands of hands. Try giving up on cash and use cards and digital modes of payment as much as possible.

Some Suggestions from WHO & Unicef:

Note: The information given above are just some safety tips to keep yourself fit and healthy. However, if you feel your symptoms are something similar to that of COVID-19, please consult a physician on an urgent basis.

5 Ways To Subdue Itching Of The Skin

Skin irritants are everywhere. Even in your house, there is practically no place where there are no skin irritants. Laundry detergents, air fresheners and floor polishes are just a few factors that cause skin itching.

The reason why this happens is that products like air fresheners and floor polishes take away essential oils and water from the skin which leads to dryness and irritation. This type of dry, itchy skin can also progress to skin conditions like eczema.

Here are some ways you can stop your skin from becoming dry and itchy:
1. Wear gloves
The ideal thing to do would be to wear soft, thin cotton gloves and only wear rubber gloves on top of that. Do not touch a bucket or sponge without it. Even if you cannot wear soft, thin cotton gloves underneath, at least wear the rubber gloves as this protects your hands from irritants.

2. Rinse after swimming
Chlorine is one of the principal causes of itchiness in your skin. It is absolutely essential that once you have finished swimming you rinse your body with water and a little soap. Even more importantly, use a moisturizer with glycerin in it, as this will keep the moisture trapped inside. Glycerin is particularly good at holding on to moisture.

3. Petroleum jelly
Petroleum jelly has been proven to reduce the chances of dry, itchy skin because it contains only one ingredient. This one-ingredient formula is especially great when it is applied to sensitive skin. The reason why one ingredient is better than a moisturizer with many chemicals is that a one ingredient formula is gentler and therefore creates a protective barrier against irritants.

4. Oatmeal baths
For this kind of treatment, grind oatmeal in a blender and then sprinkle it in your bath water. Oatmeal has an anti-inflammatory substance known as avenanthramides which decreases itching and redness of the skin.

5. Cleanliness
This is perhaps the most important tip which can be given. If you do not clean your floors regularly or wash your bed sheets in hot water than you are at a high risk of getting mites and these are one of the most common irritants of your skin.
