11 Symptoms of Poor Blood Circulation

Good blood circulation is important for good overall health as the blood carries oxygen and nutrients throughout your body. Therefore, if your circulatory system is not working properly, you’ll start to experience a number of negative symptoms.

Below we’ll outline some of the signs to watch out for that could indicate that your circulatory system is not operating at optimum efficiency.

 1. Angina or Tightness in the Chest
Naturally, your heart suffers when your circulation is poor. It doesn’t get the blood that it needs to function properly. If you feel a pressure on your chest or a tightening sensation, this could be angina. This is a serious symptom, and you should see your healthcare professional right away because it could also be a sign of an imminent heart attack.

2. Numbness in the Extremities
If you find yourself experiencing a tingling sensation in your hands and feet or lower legs and forearms, it’s a sign that you’re not getting adequate blood flow to your extremities. If you suddenly experience this sensation in your left arm, it’s a sign of a possible heart attack. Seek medical help as soon as possible.

3. Ulceration of the Skin on the Lower Legs
Lack of circulation to your extremities can also cause the skin of your lower legs, ankle, and feet to develop inflamed sores and rashes.

4. Cold Hands and Feet
In addition to numbness and tingling in the extremities, you’ll also find that poor circulation causes cold hands and feet. This is because you’re not getting enough warm blood in your extremities and because your body has gone into conservation mode, which causes your body to focus warmth on your core to keep you alive.

5. Varicose Veins
When your circulatory system is struggling to deliver blood to your body, the veins can become stressed and swollen. This then manifests as large and often painful veins in the legs.

6. Dry Skin, Hair, and Nails
Good blood flow helps to support the growth of healthy hair, nails, and skin. If your skin, hair, and nails are in a poor condition even with the best external treatment, it’s a sign that they’re not getting the necessary nutrients and hydration that good blood circulation would bring them.

7. Decreased Appetite
If you just don’t find food to be that appealing, it could be that your digestive tract is not getting enough blood to function properly. Your digestive tract needs an ample blood flow to support peristalsis and to transport nutrients around your body. A poor blood flow impairs your digestive function and negatively impacts your metabolism.

8. Digestive Difficulties
In addition to poor appetite, a dearth of blood flow to your digestive system causes food to be improperly and poorly digested. If you’re experiencing symptoms such as loose stool, nausea, and/or acid reflux, it could be an indication of poor blood circulation. You should see your doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment.

9. Frequent Illness
Your immune system depends upon a healthy circulatory system. If your blood circulation is poor, your body can’t benefit from the vitamins and minerals you consume. This will quickly lead to a weakening of the immune system and frequent illness such as colds and flu.

10. Excessive and Frequent Fatigue
A slow circulatory system doesn’t provide your muscles with the oxygen and nutrients necessary to maintain adequate energy levels. As your metabolism decreases, you’re bound to feel lethargic and sluggish.
This is because your body attempts to adjust to a lessened level of nutrition by dropping into a conservation mode. This is a mechanism that’s intended to conserve energy during times of scarcity. Therefore, when this happens, you won’t have the energy to carry out daily activities.

Amazing Uses Of Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)

Apple cider vinegar is commonly used as a home remedy for everything from weight loss to hiccups to sore throats. After hearing a brief synopsis of apple cider vinegar's benefits, it sounds like there are few things it can't cure. But before you start throwing back ACV in massive doses, remember that it's best used in moderation, and it's not the solution to every health issue in the book.

If you're considering integrating ACV into your diet, the first thing you should know is how to take it in a healthy manner.

"Before swallowing ACV, it is important to dilute it in water. Straight vinegar, like other acids, can damage the lining of the esophagus and lead to ulcerations and a condition known as esophagitis," said the Dr.  "But don't worry, you will gain the health benefits from diluting one or two tablespoons of the vinegar into a glass of water."

But what exactly does ACV do to your body that makes it the ideal home remedy? We spoke to several experts to find out the key things ACV does for the body.

It Aids Indigestion and Reflux

Naturopathic physician told  that, although it may seem counter-intuitive, taking raw apple cider vinegar when you're experiencing reflux or indigestion can lead to almost immediate relief. She explained that most reflux is the result of low stomach acid, not high stomach acid.

"We are a society of 'busy' people, which means that we are chronically stuck in our sympathetic nervous system — you may know this as 'fight, flight or freeze.' When our body is in this state, we don't produce enough stomach acid, pancreatic enzymes, and other digestive juices," the Dr. said. "So instead of breaking down and absorbing our food, it ends up sitting and fermenting in our stomachs, which ends up feeling like heartburn."

The Dr. also suggested mixing one to two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with water and taking it about 15 minutes before a meal to aid digestion. "This can help prime the digestive tract by stimulating our stomach acid and pancreatic enzyme secretion," she explained.

It Helps Maintain Healthy Blood Sugar Levels

If untreated, high blood sugar levels can lead to serious health issues that affect every organ of the body. "Pretty much everyone can benefit from keeping their sugar levels in check," another therapist said. "Apple cider vinegar increases the efficiency of insulin in breaking down sugar during a high-carb meal."

The therapist also said that studies have shown ACV can lower blood sugar during and after meals. "It can also lower resting blood sugar when taken before bedtime," he noted, adding that it's especially beneficial in reducing blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes.

It Lowers Cholesterol Levels

A researcher explained that pectin, a complex carbohydrate and soluble fibre found in apples and their vinegar, is responsible for lowering cholesterol. "Pectin has many beneficial health benefits," she told. "The way it works on cholesterol is that the LDL (bad cholesterol) binds itself to the pectin and is then carried out of the body as waste."

As noted by a researcher, studies have shown that acetic acid reduces serum cholesterol and triglycerides in mice. "How that occurs has not been shown, but I suspect that it may be that the acetic acid makes the fats more readily bioavailable by turning fat globules into tiny microparticles," he said. Similarly, the vinegar may help dissolve fatty streaks and plaques from the walls of arteries, which further reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease, heart attacks, and strokes.

It Can Help Kick That Nasty Cold

The researcher said that fire cider is her go-to when she feels like she's getting sick. Although there are multiple variations out there, she suggested combining one to two tablespoons of raw apple cider vinegar, one clove of fresh crushed garlic, half a thumb of fresh ginger, and a bit of fresh turmeric. If spice isn't a problem for you, the researcher recommended adding a pinch of cayenne to "turn up the heat and increase the antimicrobial properties."

"This blend is strong, so adding a touch of raw honey not only helps tame it down, but raw honey also has its own healing properties that are great for a scratchy throat," she added.

It may not be a total miracle remedy, but you'll certainly reap the benefits if you add ACV to your diet.

Breast cancer symptoms: Women warned to spot PAIN as well as unusual lumps

The patients who have more unusual symptoms are more likely to delay seeking help, researchers have said.

Symptoms other than a lump include nipple abnormalities, breast pain, skin abnormalities, ulceration, shape abnormalities and an infected or inflamed breast.

The new study, which is to be presented at the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) Cancer conference in Liverpool, examined data concerning 2,316 women diagnosed with breast cancer in England during 2009/10.

Researchers from University College London (UCL) found that four-fifths of women who sought help had a lump.

But 17 per cent of women went to see their GP with a symptom that was not a lump.

Although most women sought help quickly, those with symptoms other than lumps were more likely to delay seeing a doctor compared with women with a breast lump alone, they found.

Women with breast ulceration, nipple abnormalities, breast infection or inflammation, swollen arm or armpit and pain in the armpit were more likely to wait longer than three months to seek help.

The research found that 15 per cent women with  symptoms waited more than 90 days to see a doctor compared with seven per cent of women who only had a lump.

Monica Koo, from UCL, author of the study, said: ”Our research shows around one in six women diagnosed with breast cancer have symptoms other than a breast lump.

"These women are more likely to delay going to the doctor compared to women with breast lump alone. It's crucial that women are aware that a lump is not the only symptom of breast cancer.

"If they are worried about any breast symptoms, the best thing to do is to get it checked by a doctor as soon as possible.

"Diagnosing cancer earlier really is key in order to increase the chances of survival. Symptom awareness campaigns such as the Be Clear On Cancer campaign should continue to emphasise breast symptoms other than breast lumps."

Dr Karen Kennedy, director of the NCRI, said: "This research shows that, all too often, women are delaying going to their doctor with symptoms of breast cancer.

"This could be because people are simply unaware that breast cancer can present in many different ways, not just through the presence of a lump. With a disease like breast cancer, it's essential to be diagnosed as early as possible so that a treatment plan can be developed and started.

"Awareness campaigns need to raise awareness of all of the potential symptoms of breast cancer so that people know how to spot the signs and when to go to a doctor."

Dr Jem Rashbass, cancer lead for Public Health England, said: "It is hugely important to catch breast cancer early.

"Lumps are not the only sign and our Be Clear On Cancer campaign emphasises that women should tell their GP if they notice any changes to their breasts, such as nipple discharge or changes to the skin of the breast.
"As well as the campaign, breast screening is offered to women aged 50 to 70 and can help detect cancer earlier and improve survival."

Almost 54,000 new cases of breast cancer were diagnosed in the UK during 2013, according to Cancer Research UK figures.

In 2014, 11,400 people died from the disease.

Baroness Delyth Morgan, chief executive of the charity Breast Cancer Now, said: "It is of great concern that women with non-lump symptoms are waiting up to twice as long before visiting their GP.

"This suggests women aren't as aware that these could be a sign of something serious and we therefore need to do much more to raise awareness of the other key signs of the disease.

"With many patients not getting non-lump changes to their breasts checked out as quickly, thousands of women each year could be delaying the start of their treatment, something that could impact on their chances of survival.

"Ultimately, the key to remaining aware is to get to know how your breasts look and feel normally and to report any unusual changes as soon as possible."

If the eye is red, do not presume it to be ‘Madras Eye.’ It could be fungal infection, warn ophthalmologists. The growing incidence of loss of vision, especially among those involved in agricultural and allied activities, due to ulceration of the cornea is threatening to become a major health issue.

“Till recently, our focus was on management of cataract. Now, we come across more cases of loss of vision caused by ulceration. It was M. Srinivasan of Aravind Eye Hospital who first identified fungus as the blindness-causing agent than bacteria in the region,” says N. Venkatesh Prajna, Director, Academics, Aravind Eye Care System.

Most of the injuries are caused in the field while threshing paddy, drying onion or handling produce in godowns. “Many of the patients with fungal keratitis are workers in onion and groundnut godowns. The onion flake is sharp and cuts the eye and plants a fungus,” says Dr. Prajna.

Whenever there is irritation of the eye caused by dust, the eye should be irrigated with clean water.

Since a foreign body in a farm is laden with fungus, irritation of the eye should not be ignored. “If the irritation persists, the person should visit the nearest primary health centre where ophthalmic technicians are available. He should not buy over-the-counter medicines,” says Dr. Prajna.

As farm workers do not use adequate protective gear, their eyes are exposed to dust.

An eye hospital in West Bengal places sets of glasses near the paddy thresher for the use of farmers during harvest time. Regular eye camps are organised at the onion market in Oddanchatram of Dindigul district to identify persons with fungal keratitis.

“Blindness caused by fungal keratitis is completely preventable. The fungal infection is curable if the affected person visits an ophthalmologist within seven days of the incident,” says Dr. Prajna.
