Things to avoid

Sugary foods and beverages
While high uric acid is usually linked with a protein-rich diet, recent studies have shown that sugar can also be a potential cause. Most common added sugar include table sugar, con syrup and high fructose corn syrup.

Fructose particularly leads to high levels of uric acid. It's best to check food labels for sugar before buying.

Prefer eating more whole foods and lesser refined packaged to cut down on sugar intake.

Avoid alcohol

Have you noticed that when you consume alcohol, your trips to the loo increase? Alcohol makes you dehydrated and triggers high uric acid. This happens as your kidney is busy in filtering out the products in the blood due to alcohol instead of uric acid and other wastes.

Manage your insulin levels

Too much insulin in the body can lead to high levels of uric acid and weight gain. It's best to get your insulin levels checked when you visit your doctor, even if you do not have diabetes mellitus.
