Bride and groom, get these 4 medical tests done before the weddin

They're important

It is officially the wedding season. If you don’t already have a dozen of wedding invites and functions to attend, chances are you might be preparing for your own wedding. From finalising the wedding invite, the lehenga of your choice to zeroing in on the venue, planning a wedding is no child’s play.
A lot of people believe in checking the compatibility of the stars of the bride and groom to predict the state of their married life. However, there is one very crucial aspect of a happy and healthy relationship that often gets ignored--the health of the couple.

 4 Medical tests
So, before you decide to spend the rest of your life with someone, it is important to be aware of your partner’s medical status. As you gear up for the D-day, get these four medical tests done to be better equipped and prepared for any hurdles that may come your way.

Infertility test
An infertility test is designed to let you know the health of ovaries and the sperm count. Since there are no clear symptoms of infertility, it is important to undergo these tests if you are planning to have a baby in the future or even have a normal sex life. When you know the results beforehand, it helps you in seeking the correct course of treatment, if required.

Blood group compatibility test
It may not seem like a very important test but if you are planning to procreate, it is crucial that you and your partner have the same Rh factor (Rhesus factor). If your blood groups aren’t compatible with each other, it may create complications during pregnancy. An Rh incompatibility can be fatal for the second child as it is a condition where the antibodies in a pregnant woman's blood destroy her baby's blood cells.

Genetically transmitted conditions test
Genetic conditions can be easily transferred from one generation to the other. Hence, it is important to get tested for these chronic medical conditions before it gets too late. Some of the diseases include breast cancer, colon cancer, kidney diseases and diabetes. Timely diagnosis can also help in getting proper treatment for these medical conditions before they turn life-threatening.

STD test

Since it is common for people to indulge in premarital sex, it is a good idea for both the partners to get tested for sexually transmitted diseases. These diseases include HIV/AIDS, gonorrhoea, herpes, syphilis and hepatitis C. Since some of these medical conditions are life-threatening and can last lifelong, it is a must to get an STD test done.
In case your partner’s test reports turn out to be positive, it can save you from the psychological and psychological trauma that you may face in the future and give you clarity whether you wish to go ahead with the wedding or not.

Pelvic Pain That Women Should Never Ignore

For women, weird pains in the pelvic region are easily dismissed as just cramps or normal women’s stuff, but when it keeps occurring, it might be time to get it checked out.

While appendicitis or complications from a pregnancy can cause pelvic pain, their symptoms are typically more pronounced and a lot easier to pinpoint. There are a number of organs located in the pelvic region that can be linked to a variety of ailments.
If you’ve been struggling with intermittent or ongoing pelvic pain, one of the following conditions could be the culprit.

Endometriosis
Pain associated with endometriosis is usually more intense during menstruation, but for some women, it occurs at any time. Endometriosis occurs when tissue starts to grow outside of the uterus’s lining into other parts of the body, including the ovaries, bladder, or fallopian tubes.
Women who suffer from this condition describe debilitating pain that feels like stabbing, crushing, or unbearable cramps. Pain might also be felt during intercourse.
Cysts
Your body produces an ovarian cyst during the normal stages of menstruation and ovulation. When a woman ovulates, they might feel some pain. However, there are other types of ovarian cysts that can grow within the ovaries and cause pain, discomfort, or dysfunction in the reproductive system.
These cysts will either disappear on their own, or might need to be surgically removed.
UTI
A urinary tract infection is one of the most common causes of pelvic pain in women. It might or might not be accompanied by other symptoms such as pain when urinating, an excessive urge to urinate, cloudy urine, or fever.
Fibroids
Though usually benign, fibroid tumors can grow so big that they cause pelvic pain and pressure, abnormal bleeding, or leg pain. Pain from fibroids may come and go or be consistent, and can become more noticeable after sex, exercise, menstruation, or a bowel movement.
Treatment might involve pain relief medication or surgery.
STIs
Sexually transmitted infections can cause the pelvic area to become inflamed unless they are treated quickly. Chlamydia and gonorrhea are usually the main culprits behind pelvic pain, but other non-sexual infections can also lead to pelvic inflammation and pain. All require medical treatment to resolve.
Interstitial Cystitis
In layman’s terms, this condition causes inflammation in the bladder, with no infection being present most of the time. The pain can be excruciating and last for weeks or months at a time, or it can be intermittent, feeling like pressure or a small bout of pain.
Symptoms might be mild or resemble those of a UTI. Women might also feel pain before urinating or after intercourse. Treatment usually entails medication, surgery, or physical therapy.
Kidney Stones
Women might also have pelvic pain thanks to kidney stones. When a crystallized stone travels from the kidney through the urinary tract, it can cause problems while trying to pass. The pain that occurs might be sharp and last for hours, or might be accompanied by back pain.
If you have this type of pain, or a fever, red urine, or painful urination, seek medical attention as soon as possible.

Periods will always tell a woman a lot about her body’s health. However, most women don’t know what to do or not to do during their periods. Most of them are doing the wrong things during periods that only cause them problems.

However, if a woman receives periods of any color apart from the above mentioned, then it means she has a problem and should see a doctor.

Take long to change pads

10 Prostate Cancer Risk Factors Men Should Know

According to the American National Cancer Institute, after skin cancer, prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer in men, and 1-in-7 will be diagnosed with it during their lifetime. This is quite the troubling statistic, especially since many men still don’t even know where in their body the prostate is.
The prostate is a walnut-sized gland that is located under the bladder, at the base of the penis. It is a vital part of the reproductive system and its function is to assure the arrival of the sperm into the vagina. It does that by producing an alkaline fluid that protects the spermatozoa from the acidic conditions in the cervix.
While age is the number-1 risk factor when it comes to prostate cancer, there are several other key factors that can raise and lower the risks. Here are the 10 most important ones every man should know.

1. Family History
If your 1st-degree relative was diagnosed with prostate cancer in the past, your risk factor is nearly double that of a person without a family history of prostate cancer. Just like how heart diseases can be hereditary, so does prostate cancer, according to a study.
2. Excess Weight
Being overweight increases your risk of developing various forms of cancer, including prostate cancer. Overweight and obese men are also at risk for developing a more aggressive form of prostate cancer, according to a study.
3. Frequency of Sexual Activity in Early Ages
A study found that the more a 20-30 year-old male masturbates, the more likely he is to develop prostate cancer. Researchers believe it is caused by elevated levels of testosterone, which rises the more sexually active a young man is.
4. Frequency of Sexual Activity in Men Over 50
On the other hand, the more frequently 50-year-olds engage in sexual activities, the less likely are they to develop prostate cancer, according to a study. Lab tests found that the biochemical composition of sperm changes when a man engages in intercourse versus masturbation, and that change significantly affects the risk of prostate cancer. Researchers suggest that intercourse stimulates the prostate to remove toxins that masturbation does not.

5. Frequency of Exercise
How much time you spend in the gym can directly affect the likeliness of you developing prostate cancer. A Harvard University study found that moderate physical exercise provides a boost to the immune system, encouraging it to produce “hunter cells” and protective chemicals that battle cancerous cells. In addition, it is speculated that burning fat also decreases prostate cancer risks.
6. Previous Dealings with Cancer
Men who suffered from other forms of cancer in the past are more likely to develop prostate cancer. Studies found that men who suffered from cancer in the kidneys, bladder, lungs, thyroid and skin cancers are at a much higher risk group to develop prostate cancer.
7. STDs
Suffering from infections or prostatitis can increase your chances of contracting prostate cancer. According to a University of Michigan study, men who had gonorrhea or syphilis are more likely to develop prostate cancer, especially in chronic cases. It’s important to mention that these findings are still inconclusive, and another assumption is that men who suffer from STDs get checked more often, thus increasing the chances of diagnosing a preexisting condition.
8. Alcoholism
Even though one glass of wine per day is good for your heart, drinking hard liquor more than 5 times a week doubles the risk of developing prostate cancer, according to a study. It is still not clear how alcohol increases the risk factor, but researchers suggest that it interrupts the body’s natural DNA repair mechanisms.

9. A Calcium-Rich Diet
Researchers are still not sure how our eating habits affect prostate cancer risks, but several studies have found that a calcium-rich diet increases the risk of prostate cancer. Men between the ages of 19 and 70 are advised not to consume more than 1,000mg of calcium a day, and men over 71 should limit themselves to 1,200mg per day. It is also highly recommended not to consume more than 2,000mg per day.
10. Vasectomy
A study found that men who went through a vasectomy have a 10% increase in their risk to develop prostate cancer. In addition, the earlier in life the procedure was performed, the higher the risk. It is important to note that the American Urologist Association objects to these findings.
So What Can You Do to Minimize the Risks?
Most of the risk factors are genetic, and it is still impossible to change one’s genetic makeup. However, if you maintain a healthy diet, you can significantly decrease your chances of developing prostate cancer.
It is highly advisable for men over 40 to get a checkup every year, and even more often if you’re in one of the aforementioned risk groups.

Four decades ago cervical cancer was a major death risk for women, mainly because by the time this form of cancer enters its later stages, it has very few obvious outward symptoms. Nowadays it can be detected early with pap smear tests and education about warning signs, dropping the death rate of this disease significantly. It's recommended that you learn the warning signs and risk factors associated with cervical cancer, to help prevent this deadly disease from winning.
Factors that increase your risk for cervical cancer
  • HPV - The Human Papilloma Virus is spread through skin contact and considered a virus that can lead to cervical cancer. It can be detected through pap smears or if warts develop. There is a vaccine against it.
  • Oral contraception - Some of the hormones released through this form of birth control can create an ideal breeding ground for this cancer. The risk increases the longer one takes the pills and doubles after 5 years of consumption.
  • Diet – There is a higher risk of cervical cancer for overweight women and women whose diets lack essential nutrients.
  • Chlamydia – Women have been infected with chlamydia in the past or currently infected from it reveal a higher risk for cervical cancer infection.
  • Pregnancies - Little is known why women who have had 3 or more full-term pregnancies have a higher risk of developing cervical cancer, however, it’s something to be aware of.
  • Young first pregnancy – Women who have a full-term pregnancy before the age of 17 are twice as likely to develop cervical cancer later in life as women who had their first pregnancy after the age of 25.
  • HIV – The human immunodeficiency virus damages the immune system, increasing the risk of HPV infection.
  • Genetics– This is more controversial, however some research presents evidence that the risk is more probable if you have family members who have developed the disease.
  • Smoking - This can double the risk. The by-products of tobacco can damage the DNA of cervix cells, contributing the development of cancer. Smoking can also damage the immune system, creating a weakened system for fighting infections like HPV.
  •
    10 warning sign symptoms
Unfortunately, the early stages of cervical cancer lack both visual and physical symptoms. In the onset stages these are the typical symptoms:

    1. Leg pain - Some women experience swelling and pain in their legs. This can even be in the early stages. What happens is that the cervix swells, leading to an obstructed blood flow, causing the leg to swell and a feel a painful sensation.

    2. Vaginal discharge – Normally women will have small amounts of clear, odorless discharge. If the amount increases accompanied by an unpleasant smell and an irregular occurrence, this could signify the onset of cervical cancer.

    3. Unexplained vaginal bleeding – This is the most common of all the symptoms. If a woman has vaginal bleeding outside of her period or if she is postmenopausal, this can indicate cervical cancer. If one experiences ongoing bleeding in between menstrual periods or after sexual intercourse, contact your physician.

    4. Discomfort during urination – This more obvious symptom is described as a tight and concentrating stinging sensation when urinating, although it can feature other discomforting sensations. It’s important to keep track of your urinal patterns. If there are urinary symptoms, it can mean the cancer has spread to nearby tissue and you should consult with a physician for immediate attention.

    5. Irregular urination – Changes in your urinary frequency and appearance can indicate cervical cancer. If you notice more frequent urination, your urine is discolored or with blood, or there are noticeable changes to your regular routine and the development of incontinence (loss of bladder control) you should seek medical input from a professional.

    6. Pelvic pain – Although a fairly routine burden of being a women, if pains and cramps last for long bouts frequently, with pain more intense than regular and outside your menstrual period, this should be looked at by your doctor.

    7. Back pain – This is a common symptom that can happen for a number of reasons, however if this is experienced along with a number of the other symptoms on this list, you should go for a medical check-up.

    8. Irregular monthly cycles – Your monthly periods should reach a consistent level with characteristic symptoms after adolescence and if you notice a change in the regular routine, whether in frequency or symptoms, it’s best to contact a physician.

    9. Painful intercourse – Discomfort during sex is called dyspareunia, and this unpleasant side effect can be a sign of cervical cancer. If it’s not cervical cancer it is still commonly linked to a disease and should be tended to by medical professionals.

    10. Loss weight & fatigue – cervical cancer can deplete the number of healthy red blood cells because there will be a higher presence of white blood cells fighting the disease. This results in anemia, which leads to lower energy levels and weight loss. If you suddenly feel tired and lose weight for no reason, it doesn't automatically means you have cervical cancer, but if accompanied by other symptoms on this list it could serve as a warning sign. In either scenario if you have unexplained weight loss and fatigue, talk to your doctor.

    Preventative measures
Unfortunately cervical cancer is hard to treat because too often it’s detected too late. The good news is that cervical cancer can be prevented with knowledge and save practices:
Pap smears – These tests are the best way to screen for the disease. Women ages 20 to 30 should have a test every 3 years. From ages 30 to 65 every 3 to 5 years and women over 65 years don’t need screening if they’ve had 3 tests in a row with regular results.
HPV vaccine – Medical professionals recommend both men and women have this vaccine to prevent the disease that leads to cervical cancer.
Don’t smoke – Even secondhand smoke can increase the risk of contracting cervical cancer.
Protection against STDs – HPV can be deceptively asymptomatic. If you don’t have a firm grasp of your partner’s sexual history, and haven’t been tested together, always use protection.
