A new cellular protein involved in discovering obesity

Researchers have found that the depletion of iRhom2 protein in mice contributes to less fat in the body and increases energy consumption in fat depots known as adipose tissue.

Obesity is becoming increasing in the global range, a disease that has been seen to be a serious public health issue. Nearly  half of the population in Portugal is overweight and nearly 1 million adults have obesity. Known as cardiovascular and diabetes risk factor, obesity is associated with chronic fat tissue inflammation.

Colin Adrain who is a principal investigator of the research said, during the research, they found that " iRhom2 protein is strongly present in metabolic tissues and organs, which made it to decide to study the role of iRhom2 in obesity in more detail.

The study demonstrated how the researchers reached the results, they used an animal model, comparing groups with iRhom2 deletion to controls, and feeding them with a normal diet versus a high-fat diet.

Surprisingly, they found that during obesity, iRhom2 protein levels increase specifically in brown adipose tissue in obese animals compared to controls. Following up on this, they found that, on a high-fat diet, the animals lacking iRhom2 protein were metabolically more healthy than their wild type counterparts.

The main author of the paper explained that the deletion of iRhom2 led to enhanced energy consumption in adipose tissue, which protected animals from fat accumulation and inflammation, fatty liver and insulin resistance when the animals were placed on a diet that predisposed them to obesity.

Furthermore, the researchers found that ' at the cellular level deletion of iRhom2 leads to an increase in thermogenesis ( heat production) in brown adipose tissue. Thermogenesis in brown adipose tissue is an important physiological mechanism to consume excess body energy.

Interestingly no deleterious side effects were found in the animals with iRhom2 deletion, indicating that blocking iRhom2 may potentially be beneficial in the treatment of obesity and associated complications.

However, researchers intend to further explore the mechanisms and types of cells involved in obesity control iRhom2 and to identify the specific targets involved in the protection against obesity-associated with loss of iRhom2.

Several people are moving away from eating traditional Indian food and opting for bland, tasteless meals. But little do they know that the spices added to Indian dishes are in fact a great weight loss booster and can help burn fat effectively. They also add a unique flavour to our meals. So don’t skip these spices from your food even if you are on a weight loss mission.

Cumin or jeera: This spice is often the first thing that is added to any preparation after the oil heats. Cumin has carminative properties which help in better digestion of food and also aid in burning fat from the stomach. So do not skip adding this spice in your meals.

Turmeric or haldi: Added to most our dishes, turmeric has a compound called curcumin which helps prevent fat deposits in the body by reducing insulin and leptin resistance levels that are responsible for it. Adding a pinch of it your food every day will do the trick. You can also add it to milk and drink it before bed.

Red chili powder: Made by crushing chilies, this powder is effective in helping you losing weight. The presence of capsaicin compound increases the metabolic activity in the body and the heat generated also helps in burning fat. Add a dash of chili powder to curries to reap in its benefits.

Garam masala: This is essentially a mix of several spices such as clove, cumin, cinnamon, etc. Since all these spices are effective for weight loss, garam masala too is beneficial for people on a weight loss diet. Add not more than a teaspoon of it to your meals.

Curry leaves or kadi patta: Want to get rid of unwanted fat deposits in your body, start eating curry leaves today. These leaves are rich in fibre and other minerals and help flush out toxins from the body. So chew on them as they are not just for garnish but to also help you lose weight.

Cinnamon or dalchini: It is usually added to dishes as it lends a very aromatic flavour to food but it also has weight loss properties. Cinnamon helps in reducing abdominal fat as it has a fat-burning effect in the body. So if you are someone struggling to lose belly fat, add 1 teaspoon of cinnamon to your meals.

Traffic noise can give you 'belly tyre'

Noise traffic from roads, rails, aircrafts can make you fat from your belly, suggests a new study.

Exposure to a combination of such noise may pose the greatest risk of acquiring a spare tyre, otherwise known as central obesity, and thought to be one of the most harmful types of fat deposition around the body.

The researchers assessed how much road traffic, rail, and aircraft noise 5075 people living in five suburban and rural areas around Stockholm, Sweden, had been exposed to since 1999.

The analysis indicated no link between road traffic noise and body mass index (BMI). But there was an association between road traffic noise and waist size, with a 0.21 cm increase for every additional 5 dB increase in exposure, although this was only significant among women.

Similarly, there was a link to waist:hip ratio, with a change of 0.16 for every 5 dB increase in noise exposure to road traffic; this association was stronger in men. larger waist was significantly associated with exposure to any of the three sources of noise, but the link was strongest for aircraft noise; a larger waist:hip ratio was associated with road traffic and aircraft noise only.

The more sources of noise pollution a person was exposed to at the same time, the greater their risk of central obesity seemed to be. Age was an influential factor, with associations between central obesity and road traffic noise only found for those below the age of 60.

Since the study was observational, no definitive conclusions could be drawn about cause and effect.

However, they suggests that noise exposure may be an important physiological stressor and bump up the production of the hormone cortisol, high levels of which are thought to have a role in fat deposition around the middle of the body.

The study is published online in Occupational and Environmental Medicine.

8 WAYS TO RID YOURSELF OF CELLULITE!

cellulite biology

Cellulite, also known as cottage cheese thighs and orange peel skin, plagues women of all different shapes and sizes. Women all over struggle attempting to reduce cellulite without success.
Cellulite is a term used to describe fat deposits right under the skin, that usually can be found in the lower pelvic region and cause a bumpy appearance. People blame the appearance of cellulite on hormones, poor diet, poor lifestyle choices, age, and genetics. All of these factors do contribute to cellulite, because they share one common denominator: accumulation of toxicity in the body. For decades people have been eating refined sugar, processed food, chemicals, preservatives and pesticides. In addition, we’re exposed to environmental chemicals and pollutants in the home and outside every day. This all adds up to a very large amount of toxins, which the body is not able to eliminate fully. The body then stores these toxins in the fat cells in order to minimize toxic exposure to vital organs. The pockets and dimples of your cellulite, are also storing toxins.
As you accumulate more toxicity in your body as time goes on, the symptoms of your cellulite will only worsen. If you’re embarrassed by the appearance of your cellulite now, how do you think you’ll feel in 10 years? This is why it’s imperative to deal with cellulite, and eliminate it. The key to removing cellulite is to removing the accumulation of toxins from your body, and preventing a further build up of toxins. How? Here are…

8 TIPS FOR REMOVING CELLULITE

1. Eat a clean, unprocessed diet: Fresh fruits and vegetables are alkaline forming foods. The alkalinity of these foods magnetizes to the toxic matter in cells, drawing it out so it can be removed. In order to remove toxins from your body, they first need to be drawn out from where they have accumulated. Fresh vegetable juices are great at achieving this.
2. Switch salt: Refined salt is very acidic, dehydrating, and actually leaches minerals from your body. Refined salts add to the accumulation of toxicity in your body. Replace them with sea salt which is alkaline, and will help draw out the toxins. Crystal salt will also do the trick. You won’t even notice the difference in taste!
3. Hydrate: It’s critical to keep yourself very hydrated, in order to keep the toxins flushing through you. The first thing you should do each day, is drink a tall glass of water. If you don’t like drinking plain water, you can add some slices of lemon to liven the flavor. Herbal tea is also a good choice if you’re trying to keep it interesting. Try to avoid coffee and regular tea as much as possible.
4. Detoxify: Once you start drawing the toxic waste from your cells and tissues, the next step is removing it from your body all together. It’s important to work the toxins out, so they don’t just re-settle in to your cells. This is easier said than done. The best way to do this is with colon cleansing, either done by a professional or with at home enemas. It may not be an elegant step, but it’s a necessary one.
5. Skin Brushing/ Massage: The lymph lies right under the surface of the skin. By stimulating the lymphatic system with dry bristly skin brushing and massage, toxins start circulating into elimination channels in order to be released. In order to break down the fatty deposits which cause the dimpled appearance of cellulite, use a skin brush in small circular movements over your thighs, butt, and any other region affected by cellulite. Do this for a few minutes at a time multiple times per week.
6. Sweating: When you sweat, you expel toxins through your skin. This is a great way to eliminate the toxins that are circulating in your system. If you want to decrease the appearance of cellulite, this is one avenue of elimination that you should not ignore. Engage in some exercise until you work up a sweat!
7. Don’t Use Skin Thinning Creams: Using pharmaceutical creams such as steroids on areas with cellulite, will make the cellulite more obvious. Think about it logically. If your skin is thinner, not only will your skin show age and general imperfections more, but the appearance of bumps under the skin will be more blatant. If you need the creams for a medical reason, you should obviously not stop using them. However, try limiting them and also nourishing your skin with natural oils and creams like coconut oil.
8. Use a Trusted and Effective Program: While the aforementioned treatments will definitely help with reducing the appearance of cellulite, they are not a solution to the root of the problem.  Unlike most cellulite treatments, choose a regime which focuses on a multi-directional method for curing persistent cellulite, where the problem and the symptoms are attacked.
