Garlic: The Most Effective Cure for Pneumonia, Coughs, Colds, Ear Infections

There was no effective cure for infections like pneumonia before the discovery of penicillin in 1928 when Alexander Fleming noticed that the “mold” growing in his Petri dish destroyed the Staphylococcus bacteria.

Yet, the excessive use of antibiotics poses serious health risks, and it contributes to the thriving of drug-resistant bacteria. On the other hand, Mother Nature has created extremely useful natural antibiotics, and garlic being among the most powerful ones of them.

This garlic oil ointment, also known as GOOT, is an excellent way to fight bacterial, fungal, or viral infections. Due to the potent antibacterial and antiviral qualities, garlic has been famous since ancient time.

Most of its medicinal properties are a result of its compound allicin, which is released when garlic is finely chopped or crushed. You can get the highest levels of allicin if you press and mince garlic cloves into a smooth paste.

The garlic oil ointment offers all the powerful antibacterial, antimicrobial, antiviral, antifungal and antioxidant effects of allicin, and prevents and treats various health issues.

It is a natural remedy against colds, coughs, pneumonia, ear infections, and much more.  Here is how to make it at home:
 Ingredients
  • 5 Fresh, Peeled Garlic Cloves
  • 3 Tbsp Coconut oil
  • 2 Tbsp Olive oil
Instructions:
Warm the coconut oil in order to melt it, and add the olive oil. Then, crush or mince the garlic cloves, and add them to the oil mixture. Leave the ointment aside for half an hour, and then strain out the garlic. Pour the garlic oil into a suitable container or a smaller jar.
After an hour, the garlic oil ointment will turn into a thick soft paste. Raw, cold-pressed coconut oil is a rich source of lauric acid which is also a powerful antibacterial and antiviral agent.
If rubbed into the skin, this ointment will transfer raw garlic oil directly into the bloodstream.
It can be used to treat various health issues:
  • You should apply it to the feet of your children or infants to fight infections.
  • To fight acne, add a few drops of garlic oil to a mud pack, and apply the smooth paste on your face. Leave it to act for 10 minutes and rinse it off with cold water.
  • To cure the sores, you can apply it directly in the mouth.
  • Apply a few drops of it in the ear to soothe an ear infection, or rub it on the chest daily to fight pneumonia, coughs, and colds.
  • To almost instantly relieve toothache, sprinkle a few drops of garlic oil on a cotton ball,  press it in the affected tooth area and hold for 15-20 minutes.
  • You can also apply a few drops in the nostrils to treat sinus infections.
  • In the case of an Athlete’s foot or jock itch, apply the oil on the infected area.
  • Additionally, massage the scalp with the potent garlic oil ointment to prevent hair loss.

7 home remedies to curb cold and cough

With the change in weather, viral cough and cold are common ailments that kids suffer from. Try some of these remedies to treat the ailment and boost your kid's immunity:

1. Steam: If your little one suffers from cold and has trouble breathing, get him/her to take steam. Make the kid stand in the bathroom with hot water running or simply heat water in a wide bowl and make the kid inhale the hot fumes for at least 10 to 15 minutes. Adding eucalyptus oil can also help soothe your child's system.

2. Honey: Known for its soothing effect, dip your finger in honey and let your baby lick it two three times in a day. If your child is older than five years, mix a spoonful with cinnamon powder and ask him/her to have it.

3. Carom Seeds: Boiling water along with carom seeds (ajwain) and tulsi leaves can help to keep the cough in check. It also helps in relieving chest congestion.

4. Massage: Massages work best for children who are below two years of age. Mix mustard oil with garlic and massage your baby's chest, back and neck area. Also cover the baby's palm and feet with the oil for a quick relief.

5. Keep your kid hydrated: When your kid is going through a bout of sneezing and coughing, it is very important to keep him/her hydrated. Drinking water at regular intervals will help fight the common cold and reduce the inflammation in the throat along with washing out the infection. Other fluids in form of warm soup or a fresh juice are also beneficial for replenishing the body's lost energy.

6. Salt gargling: A glass of hot water with a teaspoon of salt can be useful to ease a sore throat. Ask your kid to gargle with salt water twice a day. The saline water helps soothe the pain.

7. Turmeric milk: Due to its antiseptic properties, turmeric is known to treat viral infections such as cough and cold. Add turmeric powder to a glass of warm milk and make your kid have it every night. It provides instant relief for an aching throat and runny nose. Since it is a rich source of calcium, milk also provides energy to your kid.

Pineapple Juice Is 5 Times More Effective Than Cough Syrup

Pineapple Juice Is 5 Times More Effective Than Cough Syrup

Pineapples contain bromelain, an enzyme with anti-inflammatory properties. It fights infections and kills bacteria. The juice from fresh pineapples can suppress coughs five times more effectively than cough syrup.
One cup of pineapple juice contains nearly 50% of the daily requirement for vitamin C intake. This helpful nutrient works to implement the use of vital enzymes within the body that regulate metabolism and energy conversion.
Pineapple juice also contains high levels of manganese, a mineral that predominantly helps form healthy connective tissue and bones. Manganese works to absorb more calcium, metabolize carbohydrates and fats, plus increases regular nerve function.
Some bromelain appears to be absorbed by the body intact, so it’s also thought to have effects outside the digestive tract. In fact, bromelain is often marketed as a natural anti-inflammatory for conditions such as arthritis. It’s one of the most popular supplements in Germany, where it is approved for the treatment of inflammation and swelling of the nose and sinuses due to surgery or injury.
If you have one of many types of persistent coughs and it’s not something more serious like pneumonia, reach for pineapple juice instead of cough syrup. It’s less expensive, has no toxic chemicals and contains the nutrients that will help fight a cold.
Drinking pineapple juice helps soothe a sore throat and aids the body to expel mucous easily. Thick and stubborn mucus in your lungs or sinuses can cause seemingly endless spasms of coughing, sneezing and painful infections. In a study published in “Der Pharma Chemica” in 2010, researchers attempted to find beneficial treatments for patients who have tuberculosis, an infectious disease often caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. As part of their studies, they discovered that a mixture of raw pineapple juice, pepper, salt and honey given to patients every day helped to dissolve the mucus in the lungs.
In a subsequent study, research found that raw extracts from pineapple could decrease mucus five times faster than over-the-counter cough syrups. Patients recovered 4.8 times faster and exhibited a decrease in all symptoms related to coughing, especially hacking.
Most of us do not need additional sugar in our diets, so look only for natural unsweetened pineapple juice and stay away from canned. If you can juice the pineapple yourself, that would be far superior to any store bought.

Pineapple Cough Suppressant Recipe
- 1 cup of fresh pineapple juice
- 1/4 cup of fresh lemon juice
- 1 piece of ginger (about 3 inches)
- 1 Tbsp raw honey
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
Combine all ingredients and take 1/4 cup, 2-3 x/day and repeat recipe daily.
