10 Reasons Why You Should Not Throw Away Banana Peels

Bananas are good for your health, as they are a superfood that can help fight many different diseases and ailments. Most of us, after having eaten a banana, will throw away the peel. However, the peel can be very beneficial and should be added to your beauty regime. A banana peel is full of antioxidants, antibacterial, antifungal, and enzymatic properties that can be put to great use. Furthermore, they are high in vitamins B6, B12, magnesium, and potassium. This abundance of nutrients makes them an essential item in your beauty routine.

Banana - Peels - Beauty - Uses

1. Whiten Teeth
If you want a pearly white smile, do not throw your banana peel away. The peel contains citric acid, which can help get rid of any yellow stains on your teeth. Furthermore, the peel has plaque-busting salicylic acid that will not damage your tooth enamel and even supports healthy teeth. Use this simple trick whenever you feel the need to whiten your teeth:
1. Rub the soft inside of a fresh peel on your teeth for around 2 minutes.
2. After you have done this, brush your teeth with toothpaste to remove the residue.
3. Repeat once a day for a couple of weeks to remove the stains.

2. Dissolve Warts
Banana peels have antioxidants and various enzymes that can safely get rid of warts - they even help fight off the wart-causing virus.
1. Cut a bit of banana peel that is slightly larger than your wart.
2. Place the inside of the peel against the wart.
3. Secure it in place using some tape or a bandage.
4. Leave it there overnight.
5. Remove peel the next morning.
6. Repeat this for a few weeks, or until the wart has gone.

3. Cure Acne
Banana - Peels - Beauty - Uses
A banana peel is an excellent way to cure pimples and acne. The reason for this is that the peel acts as a natural exfoliating agent to remove any toxins from pores, which, in turn, treats and reduces the risk of acne. Its abundance of antioxidants also helps to fight the germs that cause acne.
1. Wash your skin with cold water, then pat dry with a towel.
2. Massage the affected area with the inside of a banana peel for around 5 minutes.
3. Wait around 20 minutes so that the skin has a chance to absorb the nutrients, then rinse off using cold water.
4. Repeat this procedure 3 or 4 times a day.

4. Reduce Blemishes
The vitamins A, B, C, and E that are present in banana peels help to treat skin blemishes.
1. Gently rub the white fiber from a piece of banana peel on the blemish for 5-10 minutes.
2. Leave the remaining fiber on your skin for around 20 minutes.
3. Repeat 2-3 times a day until the blemish has gone.

5. Remove Splinters
Banana peels can be very effective when it comes to removing splinters. This is because the enzymes present in the peel help to soften the skin, which makes it easier to pluck the splinter out. They also help to heal the wound.
1. Cut a small piece of fresh banana peel.
2. Place it over the splinter (with the inside against the skin).
3. Secure it in place with a bandage or some gauze tape.
4. Leave overnight.
5. The next morning, remove the splinter using some tweezers.

6. Soothe Mosquito Bites
As we all know, mosquito and other insect bites cause a lot of itchiness. You can get rid of this itchiness by using banana peels as they help draw the fluid out of the bite. Furthermore, the polysaccharides present in the peel seep into the skin cells surrounding the bite and halt any inflammation and swelling in a matter of minutes.
1. Massage the inside of a banana peel on the affected area for 5 minutes.
2. Wait for 15 minutes, then rinse the area with cold water.
3. Repeat if needed.

 7. Remove Skins Tags
If you have an ugly skin tag that you want to get rid of, then use a banana peel as they contain enzymes which help dissolve skin tags.
 1. Cut a piece of banana peel which will cover your skin tag completely.
 2. Place the white bit of the peel on the skin tag and secure it with tape.
3. Leave it overnight.
4. Remove the tape and peel and rinse the next morning.
5. Do this each day until the skin tags drops off.

8. Diminish Wrinkles and Fine Lines
Banana peels can reduce fine lines and wrinkles. The peels contain lutein, an antioxidant that delays the signs of aging.
1. Rub the inside of a banana peel over your face and leave it for 20-30 minutes.
2. Rinse it off with warm water.
3. Do this once a day.

9. Treat Psoriasis
Banana - Peels - Beauty - Uses

Psoriasis, a chronic skin disease that leaves dry patches on different parts of the body that can become very itchy, can also be treated using banana peels.

The peel is full of antioxidants that help protect the skin against sun damage. To add to this, the fatty acids present also help to keep the skin hydrated to reduce dryness and itchiness.
1. Massage the inside of a banana peel on the affected area and leave for 30 minutes.
2. Rinse it off with cold water.
3. Repeat twice a day.

10. Soothe Puffy Eyes
The potassium present in banana peel helps reduce under-eye bags and puffiness.
1. Collect the white fiber from the inside of the peel by scraping a spoon along the surface.
2. Mix this fiber with 1 to 2 tablespoons of pure Aloe Vera gel to form a smooth paste.
3. Gently apply this paste around the eyes.
4. Wait 15 minutes, then wash it off with cold water.
5. Repeat if needed.

Unusual Uses for Onions

1. Repel insects
For a natural alternative to bug spray, rub a halved onion on your skin or clothes.
2. Soothe an insect bite or a bee sting
If you've got an itchy mosquito bite or a painful bee sting, try rubbing a raw onion over the affected area to ease the pain or irritation.
3. Prepare some onion tea to soothe a sore throat
To soothe a sore throat, boil a cup of water with the peels of half an onion.
4. Remove splinters
Lay a halved raw onion on top of a splinter and cover it with a piece of tape or adhesive bandage. Keep the onion there for about an hour and once you remove it, the splinter should have loosened and be easier to pull out.

5. Clean the grill
First scrub the grill with a wire brush to remove gunk. Switch on the grill. Use a halved onion, speared through a fork, and run the onion over the grill until all of the dirt is gone.
6. Ward off ants
If ants are a problem you face at home, leave a bowl of raw onion slices out. The scent should ward them off.
7. Create a DIY dye
While onions appear translucent in color, they make a beautiful vibrant red or orange dye. Just gather the skins and place them in a pair of nylon pantyhose or a nut milk bag and tie a knot at the end. Boil them in a pot for about 20 minutes. The liquid should be a bright dye, perfect for paper, yarn or fabric.

8. Prevent your windshield from frosting up
Slice a raw onion in half and rub it on your windshield at night. This technique will help prevent frost from forming overnight.
9. Get rid of that 'new paint' smell
Place a couple of slices of onion in a bowl of water and leave the bowl in the newly-painted room overnight to absorb the strong smell of paint fumes.
 10. Soothe a burn
Rub an onion on top of a burn to temporarily relieve the pain. Onions also have antibacterial properties to keep the wound from becoming infected.
11. Keep unwanted animals out of your yard
If you often have a problem with raccoons, chipmunks or your neighbor's cat, sprinkle a couple of onion slices around the yard or garden to keep them away.

Epsom Salt is the little-known mineral that can fix just about anything. Named after the spring in Surrey, England in which it was found, this mineral can be ingested or applied topically. Its chemical name is magnesium sulfate, and this natural remedy offers many health benefits.
Aches and pains

1. Physical stress: Soak in a warm tub and add Epsom salts. When the salt is dissolved in the water, it is readily absorbed through the skin.  The magnesium ions can help with stress, as they promote serotonin production and lessen adrenaline impact. Magnesium also helps with the energy cell production, reducing restlessness and anxiety.

2. Pain and cramping: A long soak can also offer relief for pained muscles and inflamed joints. The therapeutic salt bath also works at soothing abdominal cramps, tension headaches, and tired feet.

3. Constipation: When ingested, Epsom salts also moonlight as saline laxatives. You can drink a cup of warm water with two tablespoons of salt dissolved in it to sooth constipation. However, it is not recommended that you use this remedy more than once per day and it's best to consult your doctor if symptoms persist.
 Medical purposes
 4. Clean arteries: Epsom salts boosts the health of your arteries by decreasing inflammation and protecting your arteries' elasticity. This can help improve your circulation and ward off cardiovascular illness, with less risk of clots, plaque buildup, and arterial wall damage. To reap the benefits, soak in a bath of Epsom salts three to four times a week.

5. Blood sugar regulator: Both the magnesium and sulfate in Epsom salts help the body produce and use insulin better. With regular oral or transdermal Epsom salt intake, your blood sugar can be better regulated, resulting in improved daily energy levels and a lowered risk for diabetes.

6. Nerve function: Epsom salts facilitate many enzymatic functions. Their positive effects on the body include regulating fluid retention in cells and using calcium to transmit chemical signals in the nervous system.
 7. Healthy feet: Not only will soaking your feet in Epsom salts relieve those daily aches and pains, but it also can treat athlete’s foot, reducing the itching and burning, and help heal toenail fungal infections.
 First aid
 8. Splinters: Loosen a splinter by soaking the inflicted body part in warm water with Epsom salts. The mineral acts as an anti-inflammatory around the wound and will soften the splinter, allowing for easy removal.

9. Sprains and bruises: Adding two cups of the salt to a warm bath can help alleviate inflammation and pain caused by sprains and bruises. Soak in the tub and the pain will soon be lessened.
 Beauty routine

10. Exfoliate the skin: Take a handful of the salt and rub it gently over damp skin, to remove dead skin cells. Your skin will be left looking healthier and feeling soft. This method is suitable for your hands, feet and any other skin areas that need exfoliating.

11. Face cleanser: Add a teaspoon of Epsom salts to your regular cleanser or make your own clarifying treatment with this recipe:
  1. Chop a ripe tomato finely and mix it with a pureed egg white.
  2. Add to this half a teaspoon of vitamin B5 powder, 1 teaspoon aloe vera gel, 1 teaspoon of Epsom salts and a few drops of thyme essential oil.
  3. Apply the mixture to your face and leave it on for 15 minutes.
  4. Rinse it off with lukewarm water.
    12. Loosen blackheads: You can use the salts to remove oil and dead skin cells from your pores. Exfoliate to remove any dead skin from around the blackheads. In half a cup of hot water, mix a teaspoon of Epsom salts with four drops of iodine, stirring until the salts are completely dissolved. Let the mixture cool down a bit and then massage it onto the blackheads. Let the treatment dry completely and then wash your face with warm water, patting dry with a cloth.

    13. Hair product buildup: Remove any excess hairspray or other styling products from you hair by mixing 1 cup of Epsom salt and 1 cup lemon juice into a gallon of water (3.8 liters). Let this solution sit for 24 hours before you start using it. Pour the concoction over your hair. Leave it in for 20 minutes and then wash and condition your hair after.
