FOODS RICH IN POTASSIUM

Many diets are low in potassium but too much of sodium. Studies suggest boosting your potassium intake and curbing salt and sodium can slash your stroke risk by 21% and may also lower your odds of developing heart disease. Potassium, a mineral, works by protecting blood vessels from oxidative damage and keeps vessel walls from thickening. Adults should aim to get 4,700 mg of potassium a day. Too much potassium, usually from supplements, can be dangerous, so try to get your intake from healthy eating unless a doc says otherwise. These delicious foods can help you reach your goal.

SWEET POTATOES
Surprise—sweet potatoes, not bananas, rank highest on the list of foods that are high in potassium. One sweet potato packs a whopping 694 mg of potassium and only 131 calories, plus loads of fiber, beta-carotene, and energizing carbs. Baked, fried, grilled, mashed, or stuffed, sweet potatoes are one of the healthiest and most delicious foods you can eat.

TOMATO SAUCE
Fresh tomatoes are great, but tomato paste and puree are better sources of potassium. One quarter cup of tomato paste delivers 664 mg of this vital mineral, while one half cup of puree comes in at 549 mg. Tomato juice itself has just over 400 mg. So if you love cooking with tomatoes and want to get more potassium into your diet, make spaghetti sauce more often!

BEET GREENS

If you've ever bought fresh beets and tossed the greens in the garbage, time to change your ways. Those cooked, slightly bitter greens deserve a place at the table in part because they pack a whopping 644 mg of potassium per half cup. Antioxidant-packed beets are also a great source of folate, raw or cooked!

BEANS
White beans lead the pack when it comes to potassium, with half a cup delivering nearly 600 mg, but kidney and lima beans, as well as lentils and split peas, are all respectable sources. All beans are good for your heart and appear prominently on our list of the 20 best foods for fiber so it's smart to make beans a much bigger part of your diet.

YOGHURT
Eight ounces of plain old non-fat yoghurt contains 579 mg of potassium, while low-fat, whole milk, and cultured buttermilk—yoghurt's tangy cousin—have a little less. Delicious ways to use yogurt include mixing it with granola at breakfast, using it instead of mayo on sandwiches and in salads, and swapping it for whipped cream on desserts. Bonus: Most yogurt products contain probiotics, natural bacteria that can aid digestion and keep your gut healthy.

CLAMS
Canned or fresh, 3 ounces of clams pack 534 mg of potassium and have the highest concentration of vitamin B12 of any food. Use them to make seafood pasta or traditional  clam chowder.

PRUNES
Prune juice is no joke when it comes to potassium, delivering 530 mg per 3/4 cup; half a cup of stewed prunes have nearly 400 mg. While you know prunes are good for regularity, you may not know that eating more of these dried plums can help keep your bones strong too. In one study, women who ate 10 prunes a day had significantly higher bone density than women who ate dried apples.

CARROT JUICE
The juicing trend means more people will be getting their potassium from carrot juice, which packs over 500 mg in one 3/4 cup. Besides their potassium benefits, carrots and other orange-coloured fruits and vegetables are also great for your eyes and vision.

MOLASSES
Looking for a nutrient-packed alternative to sugar or honey? One tablespoon of black-strap molasses (the thick, dark kind) has nearly 500 mg of potassium and a respectable amount of iron and calcium.

FISH
Meaty fish like halibut and tuna have nearly 500 mg of potassium per 3 ounce serving, but cod and even farm-raised rainbow trout have plenty of potassium too. But potassium isn't the only reason to add more fish and seafood to your diet. Evidence is mounting that regularly eating fish, not taking fish supplements, can increase your lifespan, thanks in large part to the healthy fats in fresh fish; a high fish diet can even reduce your risk of death by heart disease by 35%, according to researchers.

SOY BEANS

Unprocessed soy products (think edamame, not soy powder) are a great source of protein and can also fight inflammation in the body. Bonus: half a cup of cooked soy beans have nearly 500 mg of potassium.

WINTER SQUASH

Winter squash like spaghetti squash are a dieter's dream: it has less than 50 calories per serving, yet contains plenty of vitamin A and filling fibre. But winter squash is also a great source of potassium, with 448 mg per half cup.

BANANAS
Everyone thinks of bananas when they think of high-potassium foods, and one medium fruit does pack more than 400 mg of this heart-healthy mineral. But bananas are also the ultimate hunger buster, packed with Resistant Starch, a healthy carb that fills you up and helps to boost your metabolism.

MILK
Milk is a surprising source of potassium, with 382 mg per cup for the non-fat or skim version (1% and whole milk has a little less). If you're not a fan of milk, try adding this high-calcium fluid to smoothies and healthy milkshakes.

ORANGE JUICE
One of the healthiest additions to your breakfast table, 3/4 of a cup of orange juice delivers 355 mg of potassium. Orange juice, especially the fresh-squeezed variety, is a good source of calcium, folate, and several B vitamins.

Seven tips to get rid of constipation

Constipation is a common cause of painful defecation and can even escalate to menacing heights if not taken seriously.

So,we bring before you simple tips to get rid of this irritating and painful condition:

Drink more water

Drink at least 3 litres of water every day. This is the most common tip, highly recommended and always effective.Still we don’t give heed to it and look for other solutions. But this time, take it seriously and ensure that your body gets enough water.Avoid having tap water as it is full of additives which is not good for your digestive system.Go for mineral water if you can.

Eat More fibre

Most of the doctors and specialists across the world feel that Constipation is a clear sign that your diet is lacking in fibre. So, don`t wait and adopt a healthy diet which includes lots of fruits ,grains and leafy vegetables and also a lot of fluids. Fibres will help steady your bowel movements.Fibre gives bulk to bowel movement making the stool easier to pass.

Foods to avoid

In order to help prevent constipation you should avoid or at least limit your intake of dairy products like milk, yoghurt and foods that are high in fat content, foods that are high in cholesterol content and processed foods.Don’t even think of fatty and junk food as it will aggravate your pain.

Increase physical activity

Start walking or try simple exercise regime like jogging, skipping ,cycling and swimming. The best thing to do is to take a long walk everyday which could help get things moving along. Regular and light exercises gets the heart pumping and blood flowing which ultimately aids in constipation.

Try these home remedies

Switch to Prunes and prune juice

Eat a pear during breakfast or after dinner

Have 1-2 oranges before going to bed and the same after

getting up.They will stimulate your bowels for sure.
Try Grapes and honey which are generally known as natural

laxatives

Try Aloe Vera Juice with pulp for a quick remedy. It`s a

natural fiber. Aloe vera relaxes the muscles of your digestive

track and colon so that the feces can pass through easily.

The smooth fibrous fluid of the aloe vera plant soothes the

muscles of your digestive track and softens your stool.

Check for the side effects of medications

Most of the time constipation is a side effect of a medication

or some other illness. If you are taking the medication or

suffer from an illness that may involve constipation as a

symptom of the illness, you should try to avoid foods that

make the risk of constipation higher.Discuss these with your

doctor and prepare a proper diet chart.

Say bye to stress and depression

Just relax and avoid engaging in stressful activities and

anything which spurs tension and worry. All such mental

conditions affect our daily lives and our eating habits leading

to irregular bowel movements.Ensure that you keep stress at

bay and keep yourself happy and spirited.

EVERY SEED OF POMEGRANATE CAN KEEP YOUR HEART HEALTHY !

According to a Dr.,  two things are full of benefits for the human being, lukewarm water and pomegranate.

Prepare a decoction by boiling the fistful of dried seeds in half liter of water for 10 minutes, squeezed the seeds, strained the decoction and advised those patients suffering from painful angina to use a glass of lukewarm decoction on an empty stomach in the morning.
Description: Description: Fun & Info @ Keralites.netAmazing result was observed, the decoction of dried pomegranate seeds worked like a magic, the feelings of tightness and heaviness of chest and the pain had gone.

It encouraged the Dr. to try more
experiments on all types of cardiac patients so I tried other experiments on patients who were suffering from painful angina, coronary arterial blockage, cardiac ischemia (insufficient blood flow to the heart muscle) etc., waiting for a bypass surgery. The same lukewarm decoction was used on an empty stomach in the morning. The patients experienced quick relief in all symptoms including painful condition.

In another case of coronary arterial blockage the patient started using half glass of fresh pomegranate juice every day for one year, although all symptoms were completely relieved within a week but he continued taking it for a whole year, it completely reversed the plaque build-up and unblocked his arteries to normal, the angiography report confirmed the evidence.

Thus decoction of dried pomegranate seeds, fresh pomegranate juice or eating a whole pomegranate on empty stomach in the morning proved to be a miracle cure for cardiac patients. But the lukewarm dried seeds decoction proved to be more effective compared to eating a whole pomegranate or fresh pomegranate juice.

Use of pomegranate in any way has demonstrated even more dramatic effects as blood thinner, pain killing properties for cardiac patients, lowers LDL (low-density lipoprotein or bad cholesterol) and raises the HDL (high-density lipoprotein or good cholesterol). There are more than 50 different types of heart diseases, the most common being coronary artery disease (CAD), which is the number one killer of both women and men in some countries, and there has been no medicinal cure for this disease.

Many cardiac patients have reversed their heart diseases on my advice using one glass of lukewarm decoction of pomegranate dried seeds, half glass of fresh pomegranate juice or eating a whole pomegranate on empty stomach in the morning. It was the very first real breakthrough in the history of cardiology to successfully treat the cardiac diseases by a fruit.

The more super foods to obtain the even faster results for cardiac patients which are most promising curative and protective agents like fresh raisins, quince, guava, prunes (dried plums), natural vinegar, mixture of grape fruit juice and honey in the morning (empty stomach), basil leaves, chicory leaves, powder of oregano leaves and rock salt in equal quantity (in case the patient is not hypertensive) and sesame oil as cooking oil for cardiac patients.

It is regretted to say that treating the heart patients and bypass surgery has become far more profitable business around the world which has failed to help avert life threatening heart attacks and life time cardiac complications resulting in almost paralyzed life. A regular use of pomegranate in any way ensures a healthy cardiac life, thinning your blood, dissolving the blood clots and obstruction inside the coronary arteries, maintains an optimal blood flow, supports a healthy blood pressure, prevents and reverses atherosclerosis. (Thickening of the internal lining of the blood vessels) from whatever was experienced and observed in last several years, the Dr. says,

“A pomegranate a day keeps the cardiologist away” you can try and see the wonder.
