NUTRITION IN PEANUTS

Peanuts are called as poor man's almonds, as it contains almost the same nutrient as almond, which is more then 3-4 times expensive than peanuts. Peanuts can eaten plain as a snack, boiled, roasted or added to many snacks and vegetables to get that crunchy taste ! For recipes using peanuts, view my recipe blog.

Health benefits of peanuts
  1. Good source of antioxidants: Peanuts contain oleic acid, and also have the same energizing fat found in olive oil and is a rich form of cell regeneration. The regeneration material is very helpful in avoiding many types of cancers. For example, as preventive agents, simmered peanuts do equal amount of recovery and regeneration as blackberries and strawberries. These are far more efficient than apples, carrots or beets.
  2. Good for heart health : peanuts are good at preventing  death from cardiovascular and coronary heart diseases.
  3. Peanuts reduce the risk of stroke based on preliminary animal studies: Resveratrol is found in red grapes and red wine and it is also available in peanuts. This phytonutrient has been said to enhance the blood flow in the brain by as much as 30 percent. It enormously diminishes the danger of a stroke or a heart attack.
  4. Prevents Diabetes: According to a recent study, a serving of peanut can lower the risk of diabetes by 21%. This is due to the presence of manganese, a mineral that plays an important role in fat and carbohydrate metabolism, calcium absorption and blood sugar regulation.
  5. Prevents Gallstone  formation: Consumption of peanuts can help prevent gallstones. According to studies, eating an ounce of peanuts or peanut butter can lower the risk of developing gallstones by 25%.
  6. Improves memory: Peanuts are often called the “brain food” as they contain Vitamin B3 or niacin which improves brain functioning and boosts memory. They also contain a flavonoid called resveratrol which helps in improving blood flow to the brain by 30%.
  7. Anti ageing Benefits: Peanuts contain Vitamins C and E which can prevent wrinkles, spots and fine lines. They also contain resveratrol, a potent anti-ageing phytochemical also found in grapes and red wine. Being a powerful antioxidant, it is good for your skin, providing anti ageing benefits as well.
  8. Helps growth: Peanuts are rich in proteins, so the amino acids present in them are good for proper growth and development of our body.
Notes- some people have peanut allergy, hence they'ld be careful not to consume any food having peanuts or peanut butter too in any form.

This olive oil ingredient may cut on cancer development in brain

Olive oil has many health benefits and now it has come that a compound found in olive oil may help prevent cancer developing in the brain, according to a study.

Research into oleic acid was done and it was found that it can contribute in preventing cancer-causing genes from functioning in cells. Oleic acid is the primary ingredient in olive oil.

Production of a cell molecule that functions to prevent formation of cancer-causing proteins is triggered by the oily substance- one of a group of nutrients called fatty acids.

“While we cannot yet say that olive oil in the diet helps prevent brain cancer, our findings do suggest that oleic acid can support the production of tumour-suppressing molecules in cells grown in the lab,” said lead researcher Gracjan Michlewski of the University of Edinburgh in Britain.

“Further studies could help determine the role that olive oil might have in brain health,” Michlewski added.

In the Journal of Molecular Biology, the findings were published and in that possible therapies based on the oil to prevent brain cancer are described.

The effect of oleic acid on a cell molecule in brain, known as miR-7, was analysed by the scientists. The molecule is active in brain and is known for preventing the formation of tumours.

They found that oleic acid prevents a cell protein, known as MSI2, from stopping production of miR-7.

So this way the production of miR-7 which prevents production of tumours, is increased by the olive oil, component, according to the study.

Human cell extracts and living cells were tested by researchers to for the discovery.
