How to Pick Out the Right Pair of Sneakers for You!

Often when we go to buy new sneakers, whether for sports or everyday use, we tend to choose them based on their color or how they feel while we’re trying them on, while completely ignoring the real needs of our feet. Using the following guide, you can easily identify your foot type so that you can choose the best sneakers for your stability, comfort, and health.

The first thing you need to know is what type of foot you have, depending on the type of arch: high arch, medium arch or low arch. In order for you to identify your type, you must do the following:

Take a flat aluminum pan that you can put your feet in it.

feet

Fill the pan with water halfway, so that the water doesn’t spill out when you step in it.

Now, put your foot into the pan and place all your weight on the same leg.

feet
Remove your foot from the water and place it on thick paper or cardboard, with all your weight on that leg.

Now all you have to do is check the results.

feet

1. Medium neutral arch

You’ll see a 1-inch strip of wetness in the arch area

feet
  • Your feet are balanced, they have an excellent ability to absorb shocks and have good overall stability. However, if you put your great feet into not so great shoes, you may experience blisters or other problems.
  • The shoes that are suitable for you are Stability Shoes, which provides moderate support to the foot but are still shock absorbent, which means that you can easily find a shoe that fits your leg type. Before you buy shoes, remember to make sure they do not chafe or squeeze while trying them on.

2. High arch

On the paper, you’ll notice an empty space between your heel and food pad, or you’ll notice a very thin line connecting between the two.

feet

  • You tend to lean on the outside of your feet while walking, which means that your legs are steady but aren’t very shock absorbent.
  • The shoes that are suitable for you are Neutral-Cushioned Shoes since you need well-padded shoes that are flexible enough to absorb shocks well enough to allow your feet to move freely. Also, if you often experience calf cramps, which can happen to people with such feet, be sure to choose shoes with a higher heel (not a high heeled shoe).

3. Low arch

You’ll see your whole foot stamped on the paper.

feet

  • Your feet aren’t stable enough, but at the same time, they are shock absorbent. As you walk, your feet are fully splayed out on the ground, which can create great friction and lead to injuries.
  • The most suitable shoes for you are the Motion Control Shoe. Motion control shoes aren’t too padded, providing great support to the arch of the foot so that it prevents the feet from being fully grounded at every step. Also, prefer to buy low-heeled shoes, which will help you stay steady while walking.
Once you understand and learn more about your foot type, you’ll know exactly which sneaker is a match for your physical data helping you improve your stability and health. Many professional sneaker stores have a device that allows you to get your foot type check so that you can confirm your self-test.

Never Mix These 7 Fruits! They Cause Serious Diseases

We all know that we should eat daily more fruits and vegetables, as they don't provide much calories, but gives us a feeling of satiety, due to high fibre content. Also, fruits and vegetables give us important nutrients- vitamins and minerals to maintain a healthy life.

However, not all fruits and vegetables go well together and there are some combinations that can do more harm than good. Besides being unhealthy these combinations can even have fatal consequences. Keep reading to find out which foods should never be eaten together:

Banana and pudding-
This combination stimulates toxic production that can be even fatal for infants. Also, it is very hard to digest and will make your mind work much slower.

Carrots and orange
Even though this is a very popular combination it often causes heartburn and excess bile reflux. There have even been cases when this combination caused kidney damage and even fatal complications.

Milk and pineapple

Combining milk and pineapples can cause severe headaches, infections, diarrhea, stomach pain and nausea. The reason for this is because pineapples are rich in bromelain, a compound that should never be mixed with milk. Also, this combination is very dangerous for babies.

Lemon and papaya
Lemon and papaya mixture can cause problems with the hemoglobin levels and even anemia. It is just as dangerous for children and adults.

Banana and guava
Consuming this mixture leads to nausea and headaches and also causes acidosis and gasses.

Milk and orange

Some people eat their cereal with some orange juice added in, however if you are one of those you should know how unhealthy this combination is. Orange juice makes it harder for the stomach to process the starch and milk from the cereal which causes digestive problems and other health issues.

Fruits and vegetables
Fruits are rich in sugar and they are much harder to digest than vegetables because they stay longer in the stomach. If consumed with vegetables they start fermenting and release toxins that cause stomach aches, infections, diarrhea and headaches.

Fruits should only be consumed with other fruits. Here are some combinations that are perfectly safe and healthy:
Sweet
Sweet and acid free fruits such as bananas, apples, plums, cantaloupe and watermelon can be consumed together.

Acidic
Foods that contain citric acid such as lemons, grapes, kiwis, grapefruit, blueberries and oranges are safe to mix.

Semi-acidic

Semi-acidic means low acid. For example raspberries, mango, strawberries and apples can be consumed together.

Neutral
Avocados, almonds, peanuts, walnuts and coconuts are foods that are rich in salts, protein, oils and vitamins and can be consumed together.

New method could spell end of painful jabs for diabetes

Scientists have developed a new way of administering insulin orally that could prove to be a painless alternative to millions of diabetics worldwide who have to get injections to manage their blood-sugar levels.

The new oral method uses tiny vesicles that can deliver insulin where it needs to go without a shot, researchers said.

"We have developed a new technology called a Cholestosome. A Cholestosome is a neutral, lipid-based particle that is capable of doing some very interesting things," said Mary McCourt from Niagara University in the US.

The biggest obstacle to delivering insulin orally is ushering it through the stomach intact.

Proteins such as insulin are no match for the harsh, highly acidic environment of the stomach. They degrade before they get a chance to move into the intestines and then the bloodstream where they are needed.

Using the patented Cholestosomes, McCourt, Lawrence Mielnicki and undergraduate student Jamie Catalano, all from Niagara, have successfully encapsulated insulin.

The novel vesicles are made of naturally occurring lipid molecules, which are normal building blocks of fats. But the researchers say that they are unlike other lipid-based drug carriers, called liposomes.

"Most liposomes need to be packaged in a polymer coating for protection. Here, we're just using simple lipid esters to make vesicles with the drug molecules inside," said Mielnicki.

Computer modelling showed that once the lipids are assembled into spheres, they form neutral particles resistant to attack from stomach acids.

Drugs can be loaded inside, and the tiny packages can pass through the stomach without degrading.

When Cholestosomes reach the intestines, the body recognises them as something to be absorbed. The vesicles pass through the intestines, into the bloodstream, and then cells take them in and break them apart, releasing insulin.

The team has delivered multiple molecules with these vesicles into cells in the lab.

To pack the most insulin into the Cholestosomes, the researchers determined the optimal pH and ionic strength of the drug-containing solution.

They then moved the most promising candidates on to animal testing. Studies with rats showed that certain formulations of Cholestosomes loaded with insulin have high bioavailability, which means the vesicles travel into the bloodstream where the insulin needs to be.

Anxiety makes the world smell worse !

Anxiety stinks! Stress may not only make you smell bad, but also the world around you, a new study suggests.

The study shows that when people are anxious, smells they once found neutral become distasteful.

Scientists using powerful new brain imaging technologies have revealed how anxiety or stress can rewire the brain, linking centres of emotion and olfactory processing, to make typically benign smells malodorous.

Researchers said that, the brains of human subjects experience anxiety induced by
disturbing pictures and text of things like car crashes and war transform neutral odours to distasteful ones, fuelling a feedback loop that could heighten distress and lead to clinical issues like anxiety and depression.

The finding is important because it may help scientists understand the dynamic nature of smell perception and the biology of anxiety as the brain rewires itself under stressful circumstances and reinforces negative sensations and feelings.

"After anxiety induction, neutral smells become clearly negative," said a researcher.

"People experiencing an increase in anxiety show a decrease in the perceived pleasantness of odours. It becomes more negative as anxiety increases," she said.

Using behavioural techniques and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI),the group looked at the brains of a dozen human subjects with induced anxiety as they processed known neutral odours.

Functional MRI is a technology that enables clinicians and researchers to observe the working brain in action.

In the course of the experiment, researchers observed that two distinct and typically independent circuits of the brain- one dedicated to olfactory processing, the other to emotion- become intimately intertwined under conditions of anxiety.

Subsequent to anxiety induction and the imaging process, subjects were asked again to rate the panel of neutral smells, most assigning negative responses to smells they previously rated as neutral.

"In typical odour processing, it is usually just the olfactory system that gets activated. But when a person becomes anxious, the emotional system becomes part of the olfactory processing stream," she said.

Although those two systems of the brain are right next to each other, under normal circumstances there is limited crosstalk between the two.

However, under conditions of induced anxiety, the Wisconsin team observed the emergence of a unified network cutting across the two systems.
