Massage These 4 Pressure Points to Clear Your Blocked Nose

Nobody likes having a blocked, stuffy nose, and I’m definitely down for the count on this particular ailment. I can’t stand not being able to sleep or breathe properly, and all I can think of is how to get rid of it.

While most of us would think of turning to over-the-counter nasal sprays or drugs, the stark reality is that these are chemical solutions, which have side effects and can be addictive, resulting in you continuing to take them when you don’t need to.

Consider an alternative approach that’s easy to master, is less invasive and more effective. It is based on acupressure principles, and all you need to do is apply gentle pressure to four points of the face to help you clear your nose:

General Guidelines

 1. Use your fingertips to apply gentle pressure.

2. Use rotational movements. In fact, it’s a pushing-releasing rotation that’s needed.

3. You should not feel any pain.

4. Repeat the cycle three times.

Pressure Point 1 – Cavity at the corner of the nostrils

Instructions

1. Gently push your nostrils together using a rotating movement. As you do this, you should almost be opening and closing them.

2. Repeat the movement 10 times over Tip: Refrain from pushing on the nose cartilage. Your attention should be focused on the bottom part of the nostrils.

Pressure Point 2 – Just below the tear ducts

Instructions

1. Perform a gentle rotation at this point 10 times over.

2. Do not lift your fingers while performing the rotation – simply move the skin so you feel the corner of your eyes as you push.

Pressure Point 3 - Behind the earlobe

Instructions

1. Find the pressure point correctly. It’s located behind your ear, in the cavity just below the cartilage.

2. Push and release the point 10 times. Do not apply pressure to the cartilage.

Tip: This needs to be a subtle movement.

Pressure Point 4 – Earlobe

Instructions

1. Gently massage the earlobe 10 times.

What’s next?

Go through all of the above pressure points three times over, and you should feel immediate symptom relief. Should you require more relief, repeat the entire process after 10 minutes.

Note that you can use this simple, safe technique anywhere, and at any time. In addition to it being free, it’s also empowering to know that there are simple ways of being able to heal yourself. Be sure to share this knowledge with someone dear to you should it work for you.

This is what could happen if you ignore a cavity in your tooth

Don’t delay a visit to the dentist’s if you suspect you have a cavity

There are women who dramatically claim they’d rather birth a child than go to the dentist, even though the dentist has your best interest at heart, of course. Are you experiencing an unpleasant feeling in one of your teeth and do you suspect it might be a cavity? Then you don’t want to delay a visit to your dentist because an untreated cavity can cause a lot of misery.

These are the things that can happen when you ignore a cavity.

Your tooth can split

A healthy tooth is very unlikely to break. However, teeth with (relatively big) cavities are a different story. “If you have a lot of decay or a tooth with big, old fillings in it, those teeth are more susceptible to cracking,” Dr Carl McManama, professor of dentistry at Boston University, explains to Reader’s Digest. Simple things that seem innocent, like chewing your food, can already cause a decaying tooth to split.

It can cause nerve damage

“In the middle of every tooth is this skinny little hollow tube where the nerves and blood vessels are. When the decay reaches into the pulp of the tooth, that’s when the patient can have excruciating pain,” Dr McManama explains. In other words: as the cavity gets deeper, the pain gets worse. Eventually, nearly everyone gives in and makes an appointment with the dentist, but in some cases, it might already be too late. If that’s the case, you need a root canal treatment. In some cases, the tooth is already too far gone and can’t be saved anymore, which means it needs to be removed. To prevent this from happening, you should already contact your dentist when you’re experiencing only minor discomfort.

Your tooth can die

When your tooth has a cavity, it’s more sensitive to nerve infections. An infection can cause swelling and if that’s the case, your blood can no longer reach the nerves and the tooth will die. “When you have a dead nerve, the pain goes away but the tooth will continue to be destroyed by the decay process,” Dr McManama warns.

The rest of your mouth could also get infected

A cavity can not only do a lot of damage to your tooth but also to the rest of your mouth. The dead tissue of your tooth makes your mouth vulnerable to abscesses and infections. “The toxins from the dead tissue start infecting the bone at the tip of the root,” Dr McManama says. “Then the infection can break through into your cheek and into the floor of your mouth.” He also explains that this could lead to swelling in your jaw and the glands in your jaw and you could get a fever as well. In rare, serious instances, an untreated cavity can even cause abscesses like this to grow in your brain with a fatal conclusion. In other words: getting your teeth checked out at the dentist regularly is no unnecessary luxury.

Cheese and other milk products great for boosting your oral health!

A new study  has claimed that cheese and other dairy products can help protect the teeth. Cheese and other dairy products is very important for bones and overall health, however there’s little research into how it affects oral health. The new study published in the General Dentistry, the peer reviewed clinical journal of the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), sampled 68 subjects ranging in age from 12 to 15, and the authors looked at the dental plaque pH in the subjects’ mouths before and after they consumed cheese, milk, or sugar-free yogurt.

A pH level lower than 5.5 puts a person at risk for tooth erosion, which is a process that wears away the enamel (or protective outside layer) of teeth. ‘The higher the pH level is above 5.5, the lower the chance of developing cavities,’ said the lead author of the study. The subjects were assigned into groups randomly.

Researchers instructed the first group to eat cheddar cheese, the second group to drink milk, and the third group to eat sugar-free yogurt. Each group consumed their product for three minutes and then swished with water. Researchers measured the pH level of each subject’s mouth at 10, 20, and 30 minutes after consumption.

The groups who consumed milk and sugar-free yogurt experienced no changes in the pH levels in their mouths. Subjects who ate cheese, however, showed a rapid increase in pH levels at each time interval, suggesting that cheese has anti-cavity properties.

The study indicated that the rising pH levels from eating cheese may have occurred due to increased saliva production (the mouth’s natural way to maintain a baseline acidity level), which could be caused by the action of chewing. Additionally, various compounds found in cheese may adhere to tooth enamel and help further protect teeth from acid.

What are the health benefits of cheese and other milk products?
These milk products are rich in calcium which is particularly important during childhood because they can help make your bones stronger. A study also found that people who consume low-fat milk and cheese are less likely to suffer from stroke.

Tips to prevent cavities
Your tooth is one of the hardest parts of your body. But that doesn’t make it resistant to bacterial attack. Cavity causing species of bacteria convert the sugar from the food we eat into acids which demineralise and destruct the enamel of the tooth to create cavities in them. Luckily, preventing tooth cavities is equally easy.

Drink red wine to ward off cavities

Here is some good news for wine lovers as new studies suggest that drinking wine can help you avoid a visit to your dentist as it is believed to fight cavities.

Researchers had previously discovered that red wine is also very beneficial for health as it contains resveratrol which is associated with beneficial health effects in ageing, inflammation and metabolism.
To prove this point, researchers grew cultures of bacteria responsible for dental diseases as a biofilm.
They dipped the biofilms for a couple of minutes in different liquids -- red wine, red wine without the alcohol, red wine spiked with grape seed extract, and water and 12 percent ethanol -- for comparison.
Cavities, periodontal disease and tooth loss affect an estimated 60 to 90 percent of the global population.

The problems start when certain bacteria in the mouth get together and form biofilms, which are communities of bacteria that are difficult to kill.

Research has suggested that polyphenols, grape seed extract and wine can slow bacterial growth, said the study that appeared in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.
