How To Refresh Tired, Dry Eyes In 6 Easy Ways

Some of the side-effects of summer aren't as cheery as blue skies and sunshine. The heat can also leave your body dehydrated, your skin thirsty and worse, your eyes dry. This summer time worry is especially prevalent in contact lens wearers as the climate further dries the eye's natural lubricant on top of lenses. The result can be dry eyes that you end up itching, just because they are so parched. We're going to change that with these six ways to soothe your tired, dry peepers, even in the middle of May.

1. A Warm Compress
Before you wonder question what a hot compress can do for your eyes, hear us out. A warm compress over the eye area can open clogged ducts and encourage the glands to produce more tears. All you have to do is placed a warm towel directly on closed eyelids and hold in place for 10 minutes. Repeat this twice a day for best results.

2. Look Around
Make sure your surroundings aren't worsening the condition of your eyes. Stay away from smoke, heat and air conditioning drafts or wear protective glasses when you are exposed to any of them. If the air in your home is too dry, consider installing a humidifier to add moisture to it.

3. Eat Well
What you eat directly impacts the rest of your body, especially your eyes. To keep dryness at bay, add foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids to your diet. Such foods include chia seeds, salmon and tuna, walnuts and eggs. They reduce inflammation in the body and help the production of tears in the ducts.

4. Switch Off
Continuously staring at your screen can tire your eyes and further dry them out. Prevent this from happening by taking a break away from your screen for a few minutes after every hour so that your eyes aren't strained and get excessively dry.

5. Splash And Blink
Twice daily, make it a habit to splash your eyes with water as it will refresh them and reduce the itchy, dry feeling. Also add a blinking exercise to your routine. Try blinking slowly by keeping your eyes closed for two counts and opening them. This will help lubricate the eyeball surface and even remove any irritants.

6. Eye Drops
If you aren't able to produce tears naturally, try lubricating eye drops under the care of a doctor. Their formula is close to natural tears and will keep the eyes wet and healthy.

If you’re feeling a bit anxious, splash cold water on your face. This is a terrific way to calm yourself down. If you hold your breath at the same time, it can be even more effective. This triggers an old mammalian reflex: Your body thinks you’re diving into cold water. Your body will then want to economize on oxygen as it senses there will be a shortage. This encourages you to take deeper breaths and relaxes the nervous system.

Top 8 tips to improve eye vision

Nearly half of our days are spent in reading text, working on the computer or staring at lavish LCDs.

All these leads to eye fatigue and eye related problems, which further causes diminished vision. Follow these simple tips by Ophthalmologist , to sharpen your vision so you can see your way to a future of longevity.

Tip to Improve Eye Vision

 1: Practice relaxation exercise

One of the simplest relaxation exercise you can do to your eyes is - place your hands together palm to palm and rub them together briskly creating heat. Place them over your eyes and allow your eyes to relax. Do not let light in. Do this whenever you have time during the day.

 2: Blink your eyes regularly

Constantly blinking your eyes is a very simple way to keep your eyes fresh and avoid eye-strain  Computer users tend to blink their eyes very less, thus it is recommended that they should follow the exercise of blinking their eyes every three-four seconds.

3: Stare at a distance

Most of the computer victims are a victim of far-sightedness (have trouble seeing things, which are at a distance). To correct this or avoid this problem, make an effort to stare something at a distance every 30-45 minutes, for 5 seconds. This technique will help to improve your focus of distant objects.

 4: Splash water

If you feel that your eyes are strained, go to the wash-room and wash your eyes thoroughly. Make this a daily habit. Splashing your eyes with water will help to relieve your eyes from excessive stress and make them fresh.

 5: Do '8' exercise

Practising '8'exercise will help to increase your eye flexibility. Start it by imagining a giant figure of eight in front of you about 10 feet in front of you. Now trace the figure of eight with your eyes, slowly. Practising tracing it on either side.

 6: Practice zooming exercise

Start this muscle straightening exercise by sitting in a comfortable position. Stretch out your arm with your thumb in the hitch-hike position Focus on your thumb as your arm is outstretched. Now bring your thumb closer to you, focussing all the time, until your thumb is about 3 inches in front of your face. Now move your thumb away again until your arm is fully outstretched. Keep practising this exercise for few seconds.

7: Take an early walk

Get up early and go for a walk. This technique will make your eyes fresh and relaxed. Besides, it will also get sufficient sunlight.

8: Don't make your eyes depended on glasses

Spectacles are just a great fix for your deteriorating vision power. It does not improve or fixes your eyesight. Thus, don't depend on your glasses too much.
