Listen to music while exercising to lose weight !

Listening to music while exercising can help you work out for a longer time than those who do not have music playing in their ears, a team of researchers, including one of Indian origin, suggested. Music can have a powerful impact on our mood, signalling the brain to release feel-good and energy-boosting chemicals.

Being inactive or not exercising ranks alongside high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking and obesity as one of the five major risk factors for cardiovascular disease.

"At least on a small scale, this study provides some evidence that music may help serve as an extra tool to help motivate someone to exercise more, which is critical to heart health," said lead author.

For the study,  the team randomly selected 127 heart patients in two groups for a routine electrocardiogram (ECG) treadmill stress test and assigned to either listen to up-tempo music or have no music playing during their stress tests.

The results showed that the exercise time was significantly longer in the music group compared with the control group, 505.8 versus 455.2 seconds, respectively -- an absolute difference of about 50.6 seconds.

Adults need to get at least 30 minutes of moderate (aerobic) activity most days, including taking a brisk walk, swimming, playing tennis, riding a bicycle, dancing, water aerobics, gardening and even busy housework, experts suggested.

"Our findings reinforce the idea that upbeat music has a synergistic effect in terms of making you want to exercise longer and stick with a daily exercise routine," the researcher said.

"When doctors are recommending exercise, they might suggest listening to music too," he noted.

Do Not Surrender To Negativity

Negativity is an unseen force that affects us continuously, everyday. Life is hard, but negativity only makes it harder. It's time to change your outlook.

If someone out poison in your water, would you drink it? NO.
Yet, people repeatedly poison their minds with negativity. You need to stop it before it contaminates your life.

It starts with negative thinking, which casts a dark shadow over a person's life. It robs them of the chance to live up to their full potential, achieve, their aims and fulfill their desires.

Negativity condemns many to a lifetime of mere survival- just making it through the drudgery of each passing day. Negative thinking results in self-criticism, which leads to self-destruction.

Many folks wish to change the world through an inspiring literary work, do a noble, courageous deed, or act with selfless compassion toward those in need. Yet, despite their good intentions, the phrase, " I can't " shatters their dreams.

Eliminate negative thoughts from your mind by monitoring yourself. If you're thinking negatively, think again. strive to think positive, empowering thoughts.

Monitor the words you speak. Listen to yourself carefully and beware of excuses. When you hear, yourself complaining, stop yourself- immediately.

Shape your vocabulary into one of a positive and inspiring individual. Speak passionately and express your enthusiasm. Be aware that the words you speak are a powerful, creative force. You've so much to be positive about ! Your life has untold value. And that very thought should raise your self-esteem.

Express gratitude. Be grateful for everything that happens in your life, both good and bad. And show appreciation towards others.
Negativity is an anchor that's holding you back- it's time to cut yourself free.

The power of positivity and praise is contagious, so make sure you become a carrier. If you've been negative about yourself in the past, turn a new leaf now and begin influencing others lives for the better with your positivity.

Remember-what was once your weakness can be your strength.

Listening to music can be beneficial for cancer patients

Listening to music can be beneficial for cancer patients as it leaves a positive impact not just psychologically but physically as well by alleviating symptoms of anxiety, pain, fatigue and boosting quality of life, a new study has suggested.

Published by the journal Cochrane Library, the study examined the impact of music therapy (a personalised music experience offered by trained music therapists) and music medicine (listening to pre-recorded music provided by a doctor or nurse) on psychological and physical outcomes in people with cancer.

“We found that music therapy interventions specifically help improve patients’ quality of life. These are important findings as these outcomes play an important role in patients’ overall well-being,” said Joke Bradt, Associate Professor at the Drexel University, at Philadelphia in the US.

A total of 52 trials were examined in the review, constituting of 3,731 participants with cancer where 23 of the trials were categorised as music therapy and the remaining 29 were classified as music medicine interventions.

Overall, one of the most impactful findings was that music interventions of all kinds resulted in a moderate-to-strong effect in reducing patients’ anxiety. There was a large treatment benefit for pain reduction while for fatigue, a small-to-moderate treatment effect was noted.

Small reductions in heart and respiratory rates, as well as lowered blood pressure, were also linked to music interventions. “The results of single studies suggest that music listening may reduce the need for anaesthetics and analgesics, as well as decreased recovery time and duration of hospitalisation, but more research is needed for these outcomes,” Bradt added.

When comparing music therapy to music medicine, the team saw a moderate increase in patients’ quality of life when music therapy was applied however, there was not a similar effect in the case of music medicine interventions.

“Both music medicine and music therapy interventions play an important role in cancer care but we didn’t quite know yet which interventions may be best suited for which type of outcome,” Bradt said.
