Keep Your Blood Sugar Levels Down With This Guide

Admittedly, most of us will think of diabetes when we hear the term “high blood sugar," and with good reason. Diabetes is very serious, but long before a diagnosis occurs, the body will show signs that someone’s blood sugar levels are elevated.

Glucose is the main culprit for elevated blood sugar levels, and we ingest glucose via the food we eat. This substance is distributed to every cell in our body, and is an essential nutrient when ingested in the correct doses. The problem is that when glucose levels in the body become too high for an extended period of time, they can result in kidney, blood vessel, nerve and eye damage

In the present day, many people are eating far higher amounts of processed and artificial food than they really should be. This negative change in eating habits is directly leading to incidences of people with high blood sugar increasing around the world. So how can you avoid the same happening to you? The first thing you need to do is know what the signs of high blood sugar are, as well as how to identify them:

14 signs of high blood sugar
1. Frequent urination and urination during the night

2. Blurred vision

3. Difficulty concentrating

4. Dry mouth

5. Impotence

6. Recurrent infections

 7. Slow healing of cuts and wounds

8. Stomach problems

THE GLYCEMIC INDEX

Keep Your Blood Sugar Levels Down With This Guide

If you’re really concerned about the level of glucose you’re ingesting and thus the impact it may be having on your blood sugar levels, you can refer to the Glycemic Index. This index indicates the amount of carbohydrates found in food products to help you determine what you can or cannot eat. It ranges from 0-100. The lower the GI number of a food, the lower its glucose content.

3 High sugar foods to avoid

One slice of white bread – GI score 70

If you really must eat bread, switch to brown and reduce your glucose intake.

Rice cake – GI score 78

If you have blood sugar levels that are relatively normal, having a rice cake is fine to eat as a healthy snack, however, you should avoid rice cakes altogether if your blood pressure is already high.

Baked potato – GI score 85

You might think that baked potatoes are perfectly fine to eat as part of a healthy, balanced diet, however you really should avoid them if you’re exhibiting any of the symptoms outlined above.

Three low sugar foods to enjoy

Walnuts – GI score 15  Keep Your Blood Sugar Levels Down With This Guide

Walnuts make fantastic additions to salads, or just eaten on their own. Their GI score is very low, making them ideal to eat if you’re concerned about your blood sugar levels.

Broccoli – GI score 10

Although you might have hated eating broccoli as a child, broccoli offers a myriad of health benefits, not least having the ability to repair the damage caused to your vessels by high blood sugar levels.

Eggs – GI score 0

Eggs are great for your health and definitely won’t elevate your blood sugar levels. Their GI score is zero, so this means they are completely glucose-free.

As you can see from all of the above, it’s highly important to keep tabs on the deficiencies and excesses of your diet. Be aware of what you’re putting into your body, so that you don’t end up overloading it with all the sugar that manufacturers put into their food.

Erectile Dysfunction - 12 Shocking Causes Behind it

There is a general misconception about impotence and erectile dysfunction being two separate conditions. In fact, impotence is just another term for erectile dysfunction. If you have a problem in achieving an erection more than 70% of the times when you want to have sex, you are suffering from erectile dysfunction.

Impotence is the same thing, but it also encompasses other concerns related to sexual health such as low libido and issues with ejaculation.

Causes of erectile dysfunction

1) Disruption of blood flow in the body or disruption in hormonal secretion and nerve supply to the body

2) Vascular and neurological causes

 3) Occurrence of a disease known as atherosclerosis, which is caused due to smoking and diabetes. In this case, the arteries in the penis get narrowed and clogged.

 4) Neuropathy, which occurs because of diabetes or diabetic neuropathy

 5) Nerve damage because of a previous surgery around the pelvis area

 6) High blood pressure or hypertension also result in damaged arteries throughout the vascular system. Blood flow gets impaired and proper erection is hampered.

7) Physical causes such as high cholesterol and obesity, Parkinson’s disease and multiple cases of sclerosis

 8) Smoking, excessive drinking and substance abuse

9) The reactions and side effects of certain medicines

10) Several psychological factors such as depression, excessive stress, tension, and performance anxiety, which reduce libido

 11) Poor communication with the sexual partner

 12) Intake of several medicines such as alpha adrenergic blockers, beta blockers, chemotherapy medications and central nervous system depressants

Treatment for erectile dysfunction

Different treatments may be used to treat erectile dysfunction. These include the following:

1)Medication: A group of drugs known as PDE-5 or phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors are used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction.

 2) Vacuum devices: Vacuum erection devices help in providing an erection in men. A mechanical procedure is involved where the penis is made rigid using a vacuum pump sealed around it. This device draws blood and an erection becomes possible.

 3) Surgical treatment: Penile implants can be used to treat erectile dysfunction. Mechanical implants are used, which help to keep the penis hard. A vascular surgery is another option, which incorporates the correction of blood vessels responsible for erectile dysfunction.

 4) Natural treatment: There are a number of lifestyle changes that help a man naturally treat erectile dysfunction. Regular exercising, especially weight-bearing ones, not only aids in increasing blood flow, but also improves production of testosterone. Following a balanced diet with more intake of fruits and vegetables, limiting alcohol and avoiding smoking also generate positive results.

The term impotence and erectile dysfunction are quite related as they indicate the same conditions. However, today the term erectile dysfunction is more popular over the term impotence. In case you experience any of the symptoms of this condition, you should consult a doctor immediately.

  • brain fog
  • depression
  • anxiety
  • high blood pressure
  • stroke
  • arrhythmia
  • obesity
  • low blood oxygen levels
  • impotence
  • congestive heart failure
  • type 2 diabetes                                                                                                                        A significant percentage of people that have this disorder do not even know it, and so it takes them many years before they get treatment or use the natural remedies for sleep apnea.
Sleep apnea involves a temporary pause in breathing when sleeping and it can last for as little as two seconds to as much as 30 seconds. Also, the breathlessness can be for a couple of times or hundreds of times as you sleep. But, there are some natural remedies that you can use to deal with the condition, including:

    1 Adjust Sleep Position

Sometimes changing your sleep position is all the remedy that you need to deal with apnea. Sleeping on your back (which happens to be most people’s favorite) causes the tongue to fall back and the throat muscles to close up.
This action, in turn, narrows the airways, and this is what triggers apnea. However, adjusting your slip position and sleeping on the side or your stomach reduces the likelihood of the airways blocking and hence preventing or reducing the probability of apnea.

2 Shed off the Excess Weight

Studies show that there exists a link between being overweight and sleep apnea. In fact, a majority of people who have this disorder are overweight. Weight gain leads to fat accumulation on the throat, and this will affect the movement of the muscles on the throat and your breathing capabilities.
And so working out or using a weight loss diet can be very useful when dealing with apnea.

    3 Treat Any Underlying Cause

Once you know that you have apnea, the first thing should always be to figure out what is causing it because this makes it easier to deal with the problem. Research shows that most people with this issue have some underlying problems such as congestion and acid reflux which interfere with their normal breathing.
Nasal obstructions come with breathing difficulties through the nose which becomes worse when you sleep. Acid reflux also means that the acid is finding a way to the throat and causing swelling or irritations. Treating these underlying conditions is very useful for dealing with apnea.

    4 Herbal Remedies

    Valerian Root Tea

Valerian root has been in use as a sedative for treating insomnia and sleep apnea for centuries. You can take the capsules that come in 100mg and 50mg doses, but the tea is more refreshing.
Recipe: This recipe will only require dried valerian root and water, but you can also add some honey to improve the taste. It is a simple recipe as you will only need to put one teaspoon of dried valerian in an empty mug and pour a cup of boiling water over it. You should then steep for between five and ten minutes, and it will be ready to drink.

    Ginger, Cinnamon and Honey Tea

Ginger and cinnamon also are known to have sedative properties. If you suspect you are suffering sleep apnea try this excellent tea at bedtime.
Recipe: To make this tea you will need fresh ginger and cinnamon and a couple of teaspoons of honey. You will have to grate the fresh ginger and cinnamon and add them to a mug of hot water. Be sure that you leave the mixture to steep for a few minutes. The last thing is sieving the tea into a cup and adding the honey.

    Passionflower Tea

Passionflower is a common herb that is famous for offering relief from pain and triggering a calming effect. For sleep apnea, it is useful because it has a relaxing effect on the nervous system and this can help to keep the airways open as you sleep.
Recipe: You will need about 8 ounces of water and a teaspoon of dry passionflower leaves (use a tablespoon for fresh ones). The first step is to bring the water to a boil. You should then put the passionflower in a muslin bag and add it to the water. Leave it to steep for ten minutes, and it will be ready to drink. It is also a good idea to mix it with lemon balm which also has some elements that can help with apnea. However, you will have to adjust the ingredients and use three-quarters of a spoon for passionflower with the lemon balm making the other quarter.

    Chamomile Tea

Chamomile is another herb that you can use as a remedy for sleep apnea. Chamomile has excellent sleepy properties and is also a relaxant. This herb increases calmness and alleviates nervousness which is a common issue associated with this disorder.
Recipe: You will need eight ounces of water if you are making tea for one person and two tablespoons of dried chamomile or four spoons if you prefer the fresh flowers. To make the tea you should boil the water and add in the flowers. The next step is to stir the flowers and then cover the beverage before leaving it to steep. Five minutes is enough steeping time, but you can decrease or increase it depending on the tea strength that you want. Lastly, place a sieve on your cup and pour in the chamomile tea.
Sleep apnea comes with significant negative health implications, but you should never let it affect your way of life. If you know or suspect that you might have the problem, it is important to take some action immediately. The bedtime herbal teas above are a good starting point and be sure that you visit a health professional that is proficient with this condition.
