We often encounter a desire arising from within ourselves to munch on a cake, treat ourselves to a cookie, or relish chocolate. All these are perfect recipes for weight gain and recurring health issues. If you are worried about these habits and find it difficult to resist the temptation to indulge yourself, then celebrity nutritionist has some tips to help you out of it. She has shared a three-step formula on Instagram to help her followers take their minds off these high-calorie foods.

While those who are trying to cut down on calories from their diet are more likely to face a dilemma when they see cookies and cakes. The nutritionist has said that her formula can help them know exactly whether they actually feel like eating those foods or just giving in to the craving out of habit.

So what exactly do you need to do? she said:

-- have a glass of water

-- eat a fresh fruit

-- defer your decision by 15 mins

It's likely that the craving will die out and you will realise that you can do without the calorie-rich foods for a longer duration. It's an interesting way to train our body and mind, but the results can vary.

Many of her followers expressed their agreement with the tip. And some said they have been practising it for a long time.

“Very true and I have done this for a long time,” wrote a person.

Another said, “Absolutely agree. And,  the last line, "giving in to the craving out of habit"”.

She often shares tips to improve dietary habits for a healthy and balanced life. Previously, she helped her followers identify whether their food is fad or fab.

Doing household chores don't influence child's self-control development.

While assigning household chores to kids is considered an essential component in their development, it is found that this might not help better their self-control, which in turn can predict future job outcomes.

Self-control is a coveted personality trait that allows people to suppress inappropriate impulses, focus their attention and perform an action when there is strong tendency to avoid it, according to the findings published recently.

For the study, researchers examined data from a 10-year longitudinal study of Mexican-origin youth assessed at ages 10,12,14, 16 and 19 in which self-control was reported by the children separately.
The team examined whether household chores and self-control co-developed from ages 10-16.

We found no evidence of co-developmental associations between chores and effortful or self-control, with 4 out of 4 of our hypotheses receiving no empirical support, said a Prof. of psychology.

These null effects were surprising given the strong lay conceptions and theoretical basis for our predictions. Maybe chores don't matter for personality development, but they still predict future chore behaviour, added the Prof.-

Previous research indicated that doing more homework was related to an increase in conscientiousness, a personality trait similar to self-control, prompting Damian to question whether household chores would have a similar effect in personality development.

Despite recent advances in understanding the origin of self-control, no known research  existed investigating the co-development of chores and self-control.

Researchers also explored a matter unrelated to household chores-whether initial levels of self-control at age 10, along with improved levels from age 10-16, predicted better work outcomes in young adulthood.

In this case, the answer was yes. Both initial levels of self-control and increases in self-control predicted positive future job outcomes.

We found that children who had higher self-control at age 10 had less job stress and better job fir 9 years later. Additionally, children whose self-control showed positive changes from age 10-16 ( regardless of their initial self-control level at age 10) had higher job satisfaction and job autonomy 9 years later, said the Prof.

The results suggest that improving one's level of self-control, regardless of where you start, will help you later in life and that's important to know. It's an argument for striving to improve over time, he opined.

Parents’ Job Stress Affect Kid’s Health

Besides economic resources, parents’ autonomy in the workplace can help boost the health of their children, suggests research. While it was long known that sick children can affect a company’s bottom line, less is known about the impact a parent’s work life has on their children’s health. The researchers, looked at the so-called “self-regulatory resources”, or the amount of self-control parents bring to parenting, including the ability to act in a more reflective manner. “If a parent has too many stressors, it reduces your self-control,” said a Professor. Parental self-control was linked to better health outcomes for children. In other words, how we parent when we experience high levels of stress is probably fundamentally different from how we parent when we are coping well. “At lower levels of job autonomy,” the researchers wrote, “employees likely have to rely more on self-regulatory resources to compensate for the impact of limited control over one’s job on one’s personal life.” On the other hand, “at higher levels of job autonomy, freedom and more decision-making opportunities are likely to motivate the person to engage; however, self-regulatory resources would be less needed.”

Scientists Warn Smartphones Are Causing Mental Health Problems In Young Children

Times have really changed. Nowadays, everywhere you go you see elementary school kids with their own smartphones and toddlers playing games on their parents' phones or tablets.

The digital world has infiltrated nearly every aspect our lives, and while there has been good that's come out of it, there have also been some negative consequences.

For example, an experiment conducted by five high school biology students discovered that the radiation from Wi-Fi may be the reason why they have difficulty concentrating in school and trouble sleeping at home.

In their experiment, they took 400 cress seeds and separated them between 12 different containers. All the cress seeds that were kept far away from the Wi-Fi router grew healthy, but the ones next to the router did not.
This experiment received worldwide recognition last year, and for good reasons. There's simply a lot we don't know about our phones and the systems that help operate it, and how those affect our health.

Researchers have now discovered some more staggering information about the dangers of mobile and tablet use, and this time it's directed towards children as young as two.

According to the CDC, 1 in 5 American children ages three to 17 have a mental or behavioral disorder.

Researchers are not surprised by these stats."Half of mental health problems develop by adolescence," the professors said.

In a nationwide health survey in 2016, the scientists analyzed data provided by the parents of more than 40,000 US children aged two to 17.
The questionnaire asked about their children's medical care, any emotional or developmental issues, and how much time they spend looking at a screen.

They warn that by just spending one hour staring at a screen can make children more likely to be depressed or anxious.

Not only that, young children are also at risk of being less curious, distracted, and have lowered self-control.
According to a report, a nonprofit organization that helps children, parents, and educators navigate the world of media and technology, kids under nine years old are spending more than two hours a day on screens.

As for adolescents, they're spending more than seven hours a day on screens. The study warns that these negative effects are worrisome, but there's still hope."How children and adolescents spend their leisure time is [easier] to change."

There's a lot that can be done to better the mental health of the next generation.

While letting your child play with a phone or tablet is a reward they love, it may not be worth it in the long run.
Parents and teachers must be cognizant of the amount of time children spend online or watching TV.
Here are three tips that will help you limit your child's screen time.

1. Establish "technology-free zones" in your home.

Let your children know that certain places in the house are meant for other purposes, and not for someone to watch television or surf the internet.
Many parents will force their children to unplug in the dining room, but some people recommend banning screen time in the bedroom too.

2. Make the use of technology a privilege

There's nothing wrong with giving your child a reward they love, but make sure they don't abuse it.
Try to encourage your child to participate in other activities so that they understand screen time is a privilege.

3. Talk to your kids about the dangers

Just like how you tell your children about the importance of healthy eating and other healthy habits, discuss with them the importance of limited screen time.

How To Win Over Procrastination

The activity of delaying or putting off something is known as procrastination. Everyone battles with it consistently. However, some people accomplish something that the majority of us do not- they push past it. They do not permit it to influence their work. They develop brilliant and beneficial techniques to break past mental obstructions and remain productive. Here are a few ways with which you can beat procrastination:
  1. Try to start: Starting something can be very difficult. However, in case that you can get over that part, you will have some level of energy. Even your brain will probably goad you to continue dealing with the task. This happens because of a mental phenomenon called the Zeigarnik impact. It says that unfinished tasks will probably stay in your memory. This is exactly why planned things and to-do lists consistently appear in your mind until you finish them.
  2. Separate huge tasks into smaller assignments: Enormous tasks can frighten you, so you put them off. By taking that huge task and separating it into smaller assignments, you can decrease your burden make a start. This could include concentrating on one part of the research to begin with.
  3. Ask yourself “why?”: It is easier to inspire yourself to accomplish something you value. In case you are attempting to complete something, why not spend a couple of minutes asking yourself precisely why you need to do it and why it is so important to you. Weighing out the positives and negatives of the task and its benefits for you, can make you decide and perform better.
  4. Attempt to take a break: For those who procrastinate out of having worked too much, it does not mean you have to complete the task at once. This is known as the "sunk cost bias." The "sunk cost bias" influences players, speculators, and even a procrastinator. They feel that the task will need to be completed now and cannot be completed in the future. In some cases, a task simply does not mean you have to work on it more and more after hours.
  5. Go easy on yourself: To beat procrastination, you should be strict with yourself. However, that is not what science says. In case that you have procrastinated till now, you will probably begin on time going ahead. You need to show yourself some sympathy for your previous laziness instead of thrashing yourself about it.
Self-control is an important quality many successful individuals have. Having self-control permits you to carefully understand why you are procrastinating and can likewise, work towards it. When you understand why you are doing so, it will be easier for you to make a plan to beat it. This will allow you to see the underlying cause of your problem as well.
