Have a thyroid disorder? Here are 2 healthy detox drinks to flush out toxins, boost thyroid function

While there’s no special diet that can help cure thyroid disorders, eating a well-balanced diet can help maintain the proper functioning of the butterfly-shaped organ. The thyroid gland secretes several hormones, including thyroxine (T4). These hormones help regulate metabolism and body temperature among many other things. If your thyroid doesn’t work properly, it can do a whole lot of damage. For instance, when your thyroid makes more hormones than the body needs, it is called hyperthyroidism. By contrast, hypothyroidism is the result of too little thyroid hormone.

Thyroid problems can range from a small, harmless goiter to a life-threatening condition such as cancer. The good news is, thyroid disorders can be managed in most cases if diagnosed and treated properly. Adopting a healthy lifestyle that includes staying physically active and eating a nutritious diet can go a long way in maintaining a healthy thyroid. This is due to the fact that some foods contain nutrients that can help improve thyroid function. And here are two easy detox drinks that will not only help your thyroid heal but also support the liver, lymphatic system and digestive system.

Healthy detox drinks for your thyroid

Lemon water

Ayurvedic practices believe that drinking warm lemon water helps balance and detoxify your body. Lemons are an excellent source of vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant that may help boost your immune system, balance the body’s pH levels, clear up your skin, as well as aid weight loss. The thyroid gland needs several vitamins and minerals, including vitamin C, to keep it healthy.
How to make lemon water: Just squeeze the juice of half a lemon into two cups of water, preferably warm and consume it. You can take this thyroid healing drink at midday and again in the late afternoon to cleanse your body of toxins and ensure optimal hydration.

Celery juice

Celery is a great source of several nutrients and antioxidants that reduce inflammation, support your thyroid and overall health. According to a report in Medical Medium, Celery has the ability to cleanse the thyroid of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) toxins – research suggests that there is a possible link between EBV infection and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, an autoimmune disorder. The low-calorie vegetable may also support the production of the thyroid hormone T3.

How to make celery juice: Just rinse a bunch of celery and blend it in a blender until smooth. Add water, strain and enjoy this antioxidant-rich recipe every morning.

The bottom line is, there’s no such thing as a diet for hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism, yet, it’ is important to understand the fact that some foods can help improve the condition while others can make it worse or interfere with your medications. If you have a thyroid disorder, make sure that you talk to your doctor before making significant dietary changes that could affect your condition.

Now research shows Coronavirus patients may develop this brutal disorder

News about another brutal side effect of coronavirus has surfaced. Researchers have found that patients with COVID-19 can develop subacute thyroiditis, an inflammatory thyroid disease.

Subacute thyroiditis is usually preceded by an upper respiratory infection and causes neck pain. The study was published in Oxford’s Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism.

Researchers in Pisa,  Italy found that an 18-year-old woman’s thyroid became infected after she had tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 (which causes COVID-19) in February. In March, she tested negative for COVID-19 but then came down with a fever and complained of very bad pain in her neck and jaw. She displayed an enlarged thyroid as well as an increased heart rate and tested positive for high thyroid hormone levels.

COVID-19 continues to show us many surprises,” Dr. David Hiltzik, director of head and neck surgery at Staten Island University Hospital in New York City told  US news. “It has been shown to manifest in so many different organ systems throughout the body, so it is not surprising that the thyroid joins the many other areas that have been affected by the disease.

Luckily subacute thyroiditis is quite treatable. The Italian woman was given prednisone which helped her neck pain and fever and the rest of her symptoms dissipated after a week.

Thyroiditis can be caused by many different infections including mumps and HIV so this isn’t a surprising side effect of COVID-19 which is causing a number of post-viral infections.

According to John Hopkins University, more than 5.2 million cases of COVID-19 have been reported around the world and there have been 338,000 deaths.
