3 Forgotten Foods To Beat Hot Flashes

Summer is approaching us, and honestly, no one is ready for those hot winds and sweaty weather. The environment around us changes to a much dry and humid one; our bodies also undergo many changes. One of the things that many people face during this time is the intense and sudden feeling of warmth in the upper body. Has it ever happened to you? If yes, then allow us to tell you that those could be hot flashes. As per a research , "Hot flashes are defined as transient sensations of heat, sweating, flushing, anxiety, and chills lasting for 1-5 minutes." Usually, for women going through menopause, hot flashes are a common thing. So, if you have been experiencing these hot flashes too, then nutritionist has just the solution. The nutritionist shared certain foods that can help beat hot flashes.

In the video, she explains what hot flashes are and their symptoms. She then mentions that "our bodies start feeling out of control, and we also have many other kinds of symptoms like skin pigmentation, loss of hair, loss of satiety, bloating, irritation and more."

After explaining this, she talks about the three foods one should add to their diet. First, she mentions kopra pak, also called nariyal barfi. She says, "Instead of eating other anti-oxidant rich foods like cocoa powder and all, nariyal barfi actually helps you a lot. You can have a piece of it around 11 AM or post-lunch. Coconut has essential fatty acids. These fatty acids help to regain energy. It also helps with sugar cravings. Coconut also has lauric acid that helps to calm down a person and gives them a feeling of nourishment."

Secondly, she talks about local vegetable chutney with til. She says, "This chutney is made with ridge gourd skin and til. This will help introduce the good bacteria into your body and is good for bone mineral density." She continues to share, "Til can also help with pigmentation and acne. So, having this chutney can help with skin and hair issues along with gas, bloating and acidity."

Lastly, she talks about banana chips. "These are rich in micronutrients that we need. For instance, vitamin B6 helps calm down the nerves that can be found in these chips. This also helps with the salty cravings that one feels," says the nutritionist.

HOW ALL SMOKING CAN AFFECT YOUR HEALTH

Most people think that having smoking  adversely affects only the lungs and the heart. But apart from  causing lung cancer  and heart diseases, smoking also causes skin damage. The extent of damage on one's body depends on the number of cigarettes one smokes in a day and for how long one has been a smoker.

Effects of smoking on the body-
1. Premature ageing: The chemicals that are ingested through the smoke causes your skin to age much faster, making it look loose, dull and coarse, with uneven colouring. Most smokers have a muted orange or grey tinge to their complexions, especially on the lips.
2. Wrinkles and lines: The nicotine from smoke constricts blood vessels in the outer layers of the skin, thereby cutting off the supply of oxygen and nutrients. This causes the skin to develop visible fine lines and wrinkles at a faster rate.
3. Scarring and pigmentation: Since blood is not flowing properly to the outer layers of the skin, it is more susceptible to broken capillaries and veins, which can cause dark scarring and pigmentation on the face and other areas.
4. Dark lips: Constant exposure to heat from smoking causes stark darkening and pigmentation in the lips, which also become dry and coarse.
5. Wound healing takes long: The presence of nicotine, tar and other chemicals in the blood from cigarettes, leads to greater risk of infection, which delays wound healing, at times death of skin tissues, as blood clots can also form.
  6. High risk of skin cancer and other skin diseases: Smoking makes the skin prone to various diseases and conditions like psoriasis, which happen as nicotine adversely affects the body's immune system.
7. High chances of oral and lung cancer, as smokers have low immunity, prone to constant cough, poor long functions, most often ending up with lung cancer.

The harmful effects of smoking on the skin are not seen until after 10 years of prolonged smoking. Fortunately, your skin starts to heal itself when you kick the habit. Smoking affects the eyes too, causing eye cancer is rare cases, it also affects the liver, as the liver is unable to remove the toxins it is bombarded with due to nicotine, tar and smoke.

Home Remedies For Skin Pigmentation

Dark or light colour patches on the skin are a constant embarrassment and definitely a beauty issue. Such pigmentation of the skin is generally caused by exposure to sunlight, allergies or even heredity.
However, these can be reduced considerably with the help of these natural remedies:
1. Potato Power - Potatoes are great for skin pigmentation issues like dark circles, dark patches and even melasma – the brown or greyish brown patches that appear on nose, forehead, cheeks or other areas exposed to the sun.
Grate a medium sized potato, squeeze its juice and apply it on the affected areas. Rinse after half an hour. Use regularly to get desired results.
2. Fruity Bleach - Banana has skin lightening properties. You can also add papaya, if available, to get a great fruity bleach that will help to get rid of all types of skin pigmentation.
Mix the pulp of both these fruits and apply on the face. Rinse after 15-20 minutes to get a glowing skin.
3. Amazing Aloe Vera - Aloe Vera gel has natural anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory ingredients that rejuvenate the skin and help to produce new cells. As a result, when applied on the dark spots, they disappear with regular use leaving behind refreshed and rejuvenated healthy skin.
Mix thoroughly ½ a tsp of honey with 2 table spoons of aloe vera gel and apply on the affected area. Wait for some time before washing it off to get amazing results.
4. Sandal Wood Secret - Sandal wood purifies the blood and also works as a skin tonic. It also offers protection from sunlight and UV rays.
Mix equal quantities of sandalwood powder and rose water to make a smooth paste. Apply on the affected areas and wash after 30 minutes to get soft, rejuvenated skin.
5. Wonders of Cucumber - Cucumber is a skin rejuvenator and combined with lemon, it works wonders to lighten up the skin.
Extract some cucumber juice and mix with lemon juice. Apply on the skin and rinse after some time. You can use each of them separately too, they are even effective on their own.
6. Awesome Apple Cider Vinegar - Apple Cider Vinegar contains alpha-hydroxy acid that gently exfoliates the skin to bring out fresh, younger looking skin.
Mix equal quantities of apple cider vinegar with water and apply on the dark or light patches on the skin. Wash off after some time.
