9 Surprising Solutions For The Most Common Aches And Pains

Many people whom I know are so fussy that even for a minor headache, they've to pop a pill. Sadly, they don't realise that over a period of time, that medicine will become ineffective, as your body gets immune to it. It is not just this, it leads to kidney problem over a period of time, as kidneys are responsible for excreting the toxins from the body.

Essential oils are a great option for soothing all kinds of everyday pains when you can get by without medication. To help illustrate my point, today I’ll show you how you can solve 9 different everyday ailments using 4 basic essential oils. Once you add these essential oils to your medicine cabinet, you’ll always have a quick remedy close at hand! :-

1. Bug Bites
You can soothe angry mosquito bites and even bee stings with lavender essential oil! Place a drop of the oil on the end of a Q-tip, then rub it over the bite to help stop the itch and reduce inflammation. I've mixed little baking soda with milk to apply over bug bite, and my grandchildren found it very soothing, as it stopped them itching that place !

2. Allergies
Whether your allergies are seasonal or year-round, it helps to have a natural remedy up your sleeve that can help soothe your symptoms! When my kids’ allergies are acting up, I diffuse a combination of lavender, lemon, and peppermint essential oils. Just add a few drops of each oil to your diffuser and turn it on to help keep allergies at bay.

3. Stomach Aches

Overindulged at dinner? Use peppermint essential oil to help settle an upset stomach. Just add a drop of peppermint oil to a teaspoon of fractionated coconut oil (or another preferred carrier oil), then apply to your stomach.

4. Headaches

You can also use peppermint oil to freeze a headache in its tracks! Apply diluted peppermint oil (see above) to your temples and the back of your neck. Take it easy for a few minutes and drink some water, and you’ll be back on your feet in no time!

5. Breakouts

The mixture of sun exposure, sunscreen, makeup, and sweat on our faces during the summer can be a recipe for breakouts. Luckily, tea tree essential oil makes a powerful zit zapper! Add a single drop of tea tree oil to a Q-tip and apply it to blemishes before bedtime.

For a gentler treatment option, add a few drops of tea tree oil to your favorite cleanser or moisturizer to help keep breakouts at bay. (One drop per ounce of product should do the trick!)

6. Cuts & Scrapes

Summer fun and cuts and scrapes tend to go hand in hand, in my experience. That’s why I like to keep a bottle of lavender oil close at hand! Apply diluted lavender oil to clean scrapes to help promote healing and reduce potential scarring.

7. Foot Fungus

Sweaty feet are often affected by issues like Athlete’s Foot or toenail fungus. You can use anti-fungal tea tree oil to help resolve these issues. Just apply a couple of drops of tea tree oil to the affected area nightly before bed.

Tea Tree Foot Soak

You can also do a simple tea tree foot soak to help resolve fungal infections, or simply to help control foot odor! Add the following ingredients to a foot bath or dish tub:

    1 cup apple cider vinegar
    1/2 cup Epsom salt
10 drops tea tree essential oil
    2 quarts warm water

Soak your feet in this mixture for about 30 minutes, and repeat daily (or up to twice per day) until the condition resolves.

8. Canker Sores

Oh, canker sores—how can something so small be so painful? Use tea tree oil to help ease the pain and speed healing. Add a drop of tea tree oil to a Q-tip and dab it directly onto the canker sore.

9. Heartburn

Even the simple act of inhaling the minty aroma of peppermint essential oil can help stop heartburn. Add a few drops to your diffuser whenever you feel heartburn setting in, or diffuse it after a meal to help prevent it in the first place.

The Health Benefits of Turmeric

The yellow/orange spice of Turmeric has been in use for over 2,000 years, and is considered one of the most effective medicinal herbs through its active ingredient - curcumin. Studies have found that a daily intake of turmeric can greatly benefit our breathing, digestion, blood flow, heart and even our brains. The curcumin has strong anti-inflammation and anti-carcinogenic properties. It's amazing what just a teaspoon of turmeric, mixed with the right ingredients, can do.
But beyond these uses, old and wise men and women, through the centuries, have come up with great home remedies using turmeric.

Here are 15 uses for this wonderful spice that will bring you relief, healing and better living:
1. Treat ulcers and digestion problems: Mix one teaspoon of turmeric powder in a cup of boiling water, let it cool and then drink (you can sweeten with sugar or honey).

2. To relieve problems of digestion and acidity in the stomach: Mix half a teaspoon of turmeric with 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper and a 1/4 teaspoon of cardamom. Swallow after your meal.

3. To relieve a sore throat: Mix a teaspoonful of honey with a teaspoon of turmeric and swallow about 4 times a day.
A second option: mix 1/2 a teaspoon of turmeric and 1/2 a teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water and gurgle in the throat.

4. To treat fungus on feet and nails: Mix turmeric powder with lemon juice until an ointment is created. Smear the ointment on the problematic area for a week. Recommendation: apply before bed time and wear socks.

5. Treating acne: Smear a salve made of a tablespoon of milk and a bit of turmeric. It may stain your face, so best to put it on at night and wash your face well in the morning.
6. To stop bleeding caused by cuts or scrapes: Dab generously with turmeric powder for its anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory effects.

7. For quick healing of wounds: Make a thick mixture of turmeric with a bit of water. Smear on the wound and bandage it for at least 24 hours.

8. To treat arthritis: Boil a glass of milk with a teaspoon and a half of turmeric powder. Wait till it cools and drink. ( husband and myself, mix anywhere between 1/4-1/2 tsp each of turmeric, fenugreek ( methi) and dry ginger powders, mix with little water and drink on empty stomach. They're all anti-inflammatory, as arthritis means inflammation of the joints.

9. To relieve asthma attacks: Mix 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric powder in a glass of hot water and drink in small sips.

10. To stop your gums from bleeding: Massage the teeth and gums with a mixture made of equal parts turmeric powder, mustard, oil and salt.

11. To treat mouth wounds: Mix a 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric in a glass of hot water and wait till it cools. Gargle several times a day.

12. Treating stubborn calluses: Prepare a thick mix of 50 grams of turmeric powder with 3 tablespoons of olive oil. Mix well to receive the salve and then smear it on the callus.

13. To treat insect bites: Make a mixture of turmeric and lemon and smear over the injured area. This will help stop the bleeding and remove any poison left behind which may irritate the skin.

14. For harsh PMS and cramps: Mix a teaspoon and a half of turmeric in a glass of hot milk.

15. To ease labor: It is recommended for women that are 9 months pregnant to swallow 1/2 a teaspoon of turmeric with hot milk every day. This combination, taken late in the pregnancy, should make giving birth a little easier.
