Diabetes Detection: 10 Skin Symptoms You Need to Know

Diabetes is a chronic condition that affects millions of people worldwide. It's caused by the body's inability to produce or use insulin, a hormone that regulates blood sugar levels. While most people are aware of the common symptoms of diabetes, such as frequent urination, excessive thirst, and fatigue, many don't know that the condition can also manifest on the skin. In fact, the skin is often a reflection of what's going on inside the body. This article will examine certain indications that could emerge on your skin as a warning if you have diabetes. By recognizing these signs, you can take action to manage your condition and prevent complications.

1. Acanthosis Nigricans - Dark, Velvety, Tanned Skin
Acanthosis Nigricans
Have you ever noticed a tan or brown mark on your skin that just won't budge, no matter how much you scrub it? This frustrating condition is a common occurrence among people with diabetes, known as acanthosis nigricans (pronounced: ah-kan-THO-sis NY-gruh-kans). The condition causes the skin to thicken and darken, exhibiting a velvety texture that may lead to itchiness and an unpleasant smell. Acanthosis nigricans commonly appears on the back of the neck, groin, elbows, knees, knuckles, and armpits. People who are overweight or obese are more likely to develop acanthosis nigricans, making weight loss an effective treatment method. Recognizing this warning sign can help you take action and prevent further complications associated with diabetes.

2. Digital sclerosis -
Hard, thickening skin One of the lesser-known complications of diabetes is digital sclerosis, which initially presents as taut, thick, and wax-like skin on the fingers, leading to stiffness in the finger joints. When blood sugar levels remain uncontrolled, digital sclerosis can cause the skin to thicken, harden, and become swollen. This can spread to various parts of the body, including the upper back, arms, and shoulders. In some rare cases, thickened skin patches may appear over the knees, ankles, or elbows, making it challenging to move these joints. The texture of the thickened skin often resembles that of an orange peel.

Unfortunately, approximately one third of people with type 1 diabetes are affected by this condition, according to the American Diabetes Association. However, the good news is that by keeping blood sugar levels under control, people with diabetes can reduce their risk of developing complications associated with digital sclerosis and improve their overall health.

3. Diabetic dermopathy -
Shin Spots While many people may dismiss them as harmless age spots, those roundish, rough patches that commonly appear on the front of your legs, or shins, could actually be a sign of diabetes-related skin damage. These patches, known as dermopathy, are caused by high blood sugar levels that damage small blood vessels and result in brownish patches on the skin. Although they may not induce any pain, scratching, or exposed lesions, it's important to acknowledge them as a possible indication of diabetes.

In rare cases, dermopathy can appear in other areas of the body, such as the arms, thighs, and trunk. While the condition is typically harmless and fades away on its own within 18 months, it can also persist for a long time. Therefore, individuals who experience dermopathy should seek medical attention to manage their diabetes and prevent further complications.

4. Bullosis diabeticorum –
Blisters Although not a common symptom, diabetes can sometimes cause unexpected blistering on the skin. These blisters may vary in size, from one large blister to several smaller ones, and tend to appear on the hands, feet, legs, or forearms. The appearance of these blisters can be alarming as they resemble blisters that form after a severe burn. However, despite their appearance, they are typically painless and will heal on their own within approximately three weeks.

Maintaining healthy blood glucose levels is the only way to manage this skin problem associated with diabetes.

5. Necrobiosis Lipoidica- Yellow, reddish, or brown patches on the skin
Another lesser-known skin condition associated with diabetes is a red, raised area that appears similar to dermopathy but is larger, deeper, and spaced apart. Initially, it may seem dull and unremarkable, but as the condition progresses, it can become itchy, and painful, and develop into a shiny scar with visible blood vessels. This condition is quite rare, with only 1 in 300 diabetes patients experiencing it. Moreover, it is challenging to treat, and conventional treatments such as prescription medications, injections, or lotions may not always be effective.

The condition may also manifest in cycles, with active periods, followed by inactive ones, only to become active again. It can be difficult to manage due to this pattern, and patients may need to try several different treatment options before finding the one that is most effective. Furthermore, as with many skin conditions, early detection is crucial, and anyone experiencing unusual changes in their skin should seek medical advice promptly.

 6. Eruptive Xanthomatosis - Outbreak of small, reddish-yellow bumps
Uncontrolled diabetes can lead to a condition known as eruptive xanthomatosis. This condition is characterized by pea-like, yellow skin growths surrounded by a red halo, which can be itchy. These bumps tend to appear on the hands, feet, arms, and buttocks, and while they may be tender, they are not contagious. Eruptive xanthomatosis typically affects young men with high cholesterol and triglyceride levels. In addition to managing blood glucose levels, doctors may recommend reducing cholesterol and triglycerides through medication to manage this condition.

7. Bacterial infections
While bacterial skin infections can affect anyone, diabetics are at a greater risk due to high blood sugar levels that can lead to dry skin and a weakened immune system. Patients with diabetes often experience specific bacterial skin problems such as sties (red, painful lump near the edge of the eyelid that may look like a boil or pimple), nail infections, and deep carbuncles in the skin and surrounding tissue. These infections can result in redness, swelling, and painful sensations in the affected area. Seek medical attention if you experience any discomfort, itching, or inflammation on your skin, especially if you have high blood sugar or diabetes. Treatment usually involves antibiotic creams or pills, which can help manage and clear up these skin problems.

8. Fungal infections
ringworm
Diabetic patients are at an increased risk of developing fungal infections, specifically Candida albicans. This fungus, which resembles yeast, can result in a red and irritating rash often accompanied by small blisters and scales. Typically, the rash occurs in damp and warm regions of the body such as beneath the breasts, between the toes, around the fingernails, or in the armpits. Other common fungal infections among diabetics include jock itch, athlete’s foot, ringworm, and vaginal yeast infections. It is recommended that you consult with your physician to determine the most effective medication for eliminating fungal skin issues.

9. Dry, itchy skin
itchy skin
It's not uncommon to experience dry and itchy skin, even if you're not living with diabetes. In many cases, inadequate blood flow, which is prevalent among diabetes patients, can be attributed to the underlying cause of this condition. If you find that your lower legs are particularly itchy, it could be due to inadequate blood flow. To alleviate this discomfort, you may want to reduce the frequency of your showers and use gentle soap when you do bathe. Additionally, applying moisturizing lotion to your skin can be helpful, but be sure to avoid putting it between your toes.

10. Peripheral Neuropathy - Damage to the nerves
Peripheral Neuropathy
Diabetes can result in a type of nerve damage known as neuropathy, a common complication that involves damage to the nerves located outside of the brain and spinal cord. This can lead to a lack of sensation in the feet, making it difficult to detect injuries or blisters. In some cases, a foot ulcer may develop and become infected, posing a serious health risk. It's worth noting that while diabetes is a primary cause of neuropathy, there are other factors to consider, such as chemotherapy, autoimmune diseases, toxins, infections, and nutritional deficiencies. Make it a habit to examine your feet daily to ensure that they are not injured in any way.

Cream of Tartar Uses and Benefits

Cream of tartar is an ingredient that often crops up on menus when we’re dining out, but we never tend to think about what it actually is. When grape juice is fermented into wine inside barrels, sediment is left behind. This acidic by-product of wine production is then refined and turned into a white powder, which is known as cream of tartar. It gets its name from its chemical makeup, which is called potassium hydrogen tartrate . In addition to its applications in cooking, you can also reap various health benefits from consuming cream of tartar. Keep reading to find out all about it.

Professional bakers use cream of tartar to stabilize egg whites, creams and ice cream, and to maintain the white color of whipped cream. Even the baking powder we all know is made up of cream of tartar and baking soda. Cream of tartar is usually labeled with the code E336i on the list of ingredients. Cream of tartar (which comes as a powder) can be found in spice shops, nature stores, and specialty bakery stores, and is sometimes also available in large retail chains.

The Health Benefits of Cream of Tartar

1. Treats Urinary Tract Infections
Out of the many cream of tartar uses that exist, a primary one is its ability to change the pH level in your urine, turning it from an environment in which bacteria thrive, to one that is totally hostile to them (which is what you want). All you need to do to treat a urinary tract infection is to mix 1½ teaspoons of cream of tartar in 1 cup of warm water. Squeeze in some lemon or lime juice and drink the solution once or twice daily until you are cured.

2. Soothes Arthritis how to use cream of tarter to cure arthritis
Use this recipe to soothe your painful arthritis:
Ingredients
• 3 oranges
• 3 lemons
• 3 grapefruits
• 50g Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate)
• 50g cream of tartar
• 1.5 liters of water

Method
1. Scrub the fruits very well to ensure that all sprays or other contaminants are removed.
2. Blend the fruits well, including skins and seeds.
3. Leave the blended fruit mixture to stand overnight.
4. On the following morning, boil some water.
5. Add the Epsom salts and cream of tartar to the boiled water.
6. Add this mixture to the blend of citrus fruits.
7. Place in a suitable container and freeze.

How to take it
Consume two dessert spoons of the frozen mixture each morning, then follow up by drinking a glass of tepid water with ½ a teaspoon of a good vitamin C powder added to it. The batch you created and froze should last you for about two months.

3. Helps You Quit Smoking
If you’ve tried to quit smoking numerous times, but with little success, you’ll be pleased to know that the cream of tartar can provide a solution. It is extremely effective at removing nicotine from the bloodstream, so all you need to do is mix some cream of tartar with a glass of orange juice and drink it before you go to bed each night. Doing so will strengthen your immune system and cleanse your body of toxins.

4. Fights Heartburn
Forget relying on heartburn pills – cream of tartar uses include the ability to naturally treat heartburn. Mix ½ a teaspoon of it with ½ a teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water. As soon as you feel the onset of heartburn, simply drink 1 teaspoon of the solution.

5. Treats Acne
Cream of Tartar face scrub for acne
Due to its ability to detoxify and remove impurities from the body, cream of tartar can be used to treat acne. Mix 1 tablespoon of it with 8 ounces of water and drink the solution each morning. Do this for a month and you’ll notice fewer acne outbreaks and much clearer skin.

6. Prevents Gallstones
This tip is more of a preventative health benefit than a cure. Prevent gallstones from forming by mixing the juice of six lemons in a quart-sized jar with 1 tablespoon of Epsom salt and 3 tablespoons of cream of tartar. Top the rest of the jar up with water and place it in the refrigerator. Get into the habit of drinking a small glass of the solution each night and you should be able to eat whatever you want without gallstones forming.

7. Treats Bacterial Infections
Bacterial infections can cause a whole range of problems, from inflammation to swelling and fever. Cream of tartar can return much-needed alkalinity to your body. Simply mix ½ a teaspoon of it with ½ a cup of warm water and drink the solution to create a hostile environment for the offending bacteria that gave you the infection in the first place.

8. Lowers High Blood Pressure
In many instances, high blood pressure arises as a result of a potassium deficiency. If this applies to you (obviously you need to consult your doctor to establish this, who will likely administer a blood test), then you can return potassium to your body by drinking 1 teaspoon of cream of tartar mixed in a glass of water.

Using Cream of Tartar in Cooking
Cream of tartar has a number of uses when cooking or baking, and here are some of the most common uses:
• Sprinkle a small amount on vegetables before cooking them to help preserve their natural color.

• Add volume to meringue by adding 1/8 of a teaspoon of cream of tartar for each 2 egg whites you use.

• Adding a pinch to whipped cream will stabilize it and prevent it from deflating.

• Add a small amount to frosting in order to give it a more creamy texture.

Making Baking Powder
Cream of Tartar health benefits warnings and uses - how to make baking powder Cream of tartar (potassium bitartrate) and baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) are two products that are closely related at the molecular level. They also serve very similar functions for many different purposes. However, this does not mean that they are the same thing.

When it comes to baking, they serve different purposes too, since baking soda has a far weaker stabilizing effect than cream of tartar does. However, when mixed together, they can create baking powder, which has a whole wealth of uses.

To make baking powder, simply add 2 teaspoons of cream of tartar and 1 teaspoon of baking soda to a bowl. Then, you only need to mix it vigorously until thoroughly combined, before using it immediately.

Is Cream of Tartar Gluten-Free?
If you are sensitive to gluten or have celiac disease, then you'll need to do your best to avoid ingesting any form of gluten, a certain type of protein. It primarily comes from rye, barley, and wheat, yet it can also be found in products that may have come into contact with these grains at some point.

In isolation, the cream of tartar is actually gluten-free. However, it's important to be aware that the food it is frequently found in may not be. That's why it is important to check the label of anything you plan on eating since the law requires manufacturers to list all gluten-containing ingredients.

Using Cream of Tartar as a Cleaning Product

1. Gets Stains Out of Clothes
You can clean stains from a variety of clothes by using a wonderful cream of tartar. To do this, add a little 3% hydrogen peroxide to a small dish with cream of tartar until you get a paste and apply it to the stain that you want to remove. Leave the paste on the stain for 5-10 minutes then wash in the washing machine. The paste is good for all stains, even those that you’re not too sure where they came from. Note that it’s best to check that the paste won’t damage the garment fabric first by doing a patch test.

2. Cleans the Bathroom
In order to restore your bathroom’s gleam, mix an equal amount of cream of tartar with baking soda, add a few drops of lemon juice, and you’ll have an awesome homemade bathroom cleaner. The solution is effective against traces of limescale that stick to baths, sinks, and toilets. Apply the solution to the dirty areas of your bathroom, wait about 30 minutes, rinse with water and wipe with a dry cloth.

3. Cleans Stainless Steel and Aluminum
Stainless steel and aluminum appliances sometimes accumulate water stains and dirt that distort their appearance. To remove these stains, mix cream of tartar with a little water to create a thick mixture and use it to clean the stainless steel in your home. The paste can be used to clean jewelry, cutlery and large kitchen appliances such as sinks and ovens. Additionally, you can mix cream of tartar with a few drops of hydrogen peroxide to make a cutlery polish and a rust remover.

4. Fixes Scratched Kitchenware
To remove scratches from plates and cups, mix cream of tartar with a little water to form a paste, and apply it to the damaged areas with a cloth. After a slight wipe and a short wait, you’ll see a significant improvement in the condition of your kitchenware.

5. Keeps Ants Away
In addition to all its other qualities, cream of tartar’s make up repels insects in general, and ants in particular. To keep ants out of your house, all you have to do is sprinkle a little tartar powder near where they come in from.

Warnings
While the cream of tartar has plenty of fabulous uses, it can also pose a few risks to human health if used incorrectly or irresponsibly. As a result, it should be kept well out of reach of children.

Here are 3 ways that cream of tartar can harm your health:

It is an eye irritant.
Cream of tartar carries an NFPA rating of 2, which means that it is technically classified as a hazardous chemical. As a result, it could actually cause mild to moderate eye irritation, including swelling and redness if it were ever to get into your eyes. If this happens to you, you should immediately flush your eyes with water for at least 15 minutes. Make sure to remove any contact lenses first though!

It can cause skin damage.
Due to its acidic nature, cream of tartar is able to cause mild to moderate skin irritation too. If you find that your skin is showing signs of being irritated, then you should immediately wash that area with water and soap, covering it with some skin moisturizer afterward. If your skin is sensitive to cream of tartar, then it may be a good idea to use gloves when handling large amounts of it.

It can harm through ingestion or inhalation.
Ingesting or inhaling small amounts of raw cream of tartar could make you feel nauseous . However, if large amounts are inhaled or ingested, then toxicity could occur, meaning that you may experience dizziness, stomach cramps, or even difficulty breathing . If this happens to you, get some fresh air and seek immediate medical attention. Avoid inducing vomiting unless a medical professional instructs you to do so.

Side Effects of Cream of Tartar
While cream of tartar is relatively safe to use, there are a few side effects associated with it that you should be aware of:

It Has a Laxative Effect
Due to the way that cream of tartar interacts with the digestive system, it can be considered to be a rather mild laxative . This is perfect for anyone who suffers from constipation but could be unpleasant for anyone else. If you opt to use cream of tartar as a laxative, you should avoid using it for extended periods of time, because its overuse may be detrimental to your bowel health.

It Increases Water Loss
Cream of tartar has been found to have a diuretic effect, which means that your body will begin to lose water at an increased rate. In fact, that is why cream of tartar is often taken as a natural remedy for edema , which is a condition where fluid becomes retained within your tissues. Make sure to stay hydrated while using cream of tartar, since losing too much fluid may cause an electrolyte imbalance or dehydration.

It May Increase Your Potassium Levels Since it is made up of potassium bitartrate, taking large amounts cream of tartar could result in your body's potassium levels becoming too high. Your body naturally tries to balance out your electrolyte levels, which is why such disruptions typically have a negative impact. Cream of tartar should be particularly avoided if you suffer from any kidney problems. If you found this information useful, don't forget to share it with your friends and family too!

Proven Natural Remedies for Upset Stomach

Home remedies for an upset stomach can help to relieve nausea, bloating, cramping, gas, and heartburn. Some of the best foods for stomach upset and indigestion include ginger, chamomile, peppermint, and probiotics. If you want upset stomach remedies to be effective, it is also important to make sure that stress isn’t adding to your digestive upset.

Apart from using natural remedies for a queasy stomach, it is also important to know what to eat with an upset stomach. Eating foods such as white rice, oatmeal, soups, and other foods that are easy to digest can help to relieve gas, diarrhea, stomach aches, and bloating.

You can improve your stomach upset symptoms by avoiding fatty foods, not lying down after eating, or not eating spicy foods.

In this article, you will find out about the best natural remedies for stomach upset and indigestion. You will also learn how to use many of these home treatments to quickly settle an upset stomach.

Reasons for an Upset Stomach

Most of us suffer some form of indigestion (dyspepsia), digestive upset, nausea, and diarrhea from time to time. In most cases, mild stomach upset and abdominal pain is nothing to worry about.

Doctors from the National Health Service say that some causes of stomach cramps and bloating could be due to trapped gas. Stomach upset along with diarrhea and nausea are often symptoms of a stomach bug or food poisoning.

Bacterial infections caused by the Helicobacter pylori bacteria can result in stomach lining inflammation (gastritis) or a stomach ulcer.

If you suffer from frequent bouts of stomach aches, indigestion, and diarrhea, you may have a chronic digestive issue. Conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) can cause nausea, bloating, watery stool, or constipation.

Even if you have a chronic digestive condition, many of the home remedies for an upset stomach can provide relief from your symptoms.

Natural Remedies for an Upset Stomach

What natural remedies can help settle an upset stomach quickly? Let’s look in more detail at what you can do if you have nausea, stomach aches, indigestion, and gas.

Ginger to Soothe Stomach Upset

One of the best home remedies for stomach upset, nausea, bloating, and diarrhea is ginger.

The book Herbal Medicine: Biomolecular and Clinical Aspects says that ginger is an effective natural anti-nausea agent that relieves many types of stomach upset.

The British Journal of Anaesthesia reported that the anti-inflammatory properties of ginger help to relieve nausea and vomiting. This home remedy is effective for stomach upset caused by morning sickness, seasickness, or chemotherapy.

Ginger root powder, ginger tea, or chewing fresh ginger are all effective ways to help relieve stomach aches, nausea, and cramping naturally.

To get rid of stomach cramps and feelings of vomiting, chop up ½ inch piece of ginger and put it in a cup of boiling water. Cover and leave to infuse for 5 minutes then consume to help relieve stomach upset.

Ginger and artichoke supplements can help treat an upset stomach naturally

You can also take ginger powder supplements to get rid of indigestion, nausea, abdominal cramping, and bloating.

A 2015 clinical trial found that a natural remedy of ginger and artichoke extracts was useful for stomach upset relief. Taking the ginger/artichoke capsules twice a day before meals helped to relieve many signs of dyspepsia.

Peppermint for Stomach Upset and Diarrhea

A cup of soothing peppermint tea can do much to alleviate many symptoms of gastrointestinal distress.

A 2006 review of the health benefits of peppermint found that peppermint tea helps to relax muscles in the stomach. This soothing effect can help treat symptoms of stomach upset and relieve abdominal cramping. The antimicrobial properties of peppermint mean that it is also good for relieving symptoms of food poisoning.

Other scientific research has confirmed that peppermint is an effective herbal remedy for indigestion, dyspepsia, and stomach upset.

If you suffer from abdominal upset due to IBS or IBD, then taking peppermint oil capsules can help to treat flatulence, cramping, and diarrhea.

Put a few leaves of fresh peppermint in a cup of boiling water, cover for several minutes to infuse, and consume 2-3 times a day to help relieve stomach aches.

Cinnamon as Natural Stomach Ache Remedy

One of the ways to help get rid of a stomach bug and settle an upset stomach is to take cinnamon.

The journal Pharmacognosy Research reports that natural remedies using cinnamon have been traditionally used to cure stomach ailments. Cinnamon contains properties that are anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antioxidant.

Taking cinnamon remedies may be good if your stomach pain, nausea, and upset is caused by a gastric ulcer. Research has shown that cinnamon can help to kill off Helicobacter pylori stomach infections that can cause ulcers.

You can add a teaspoon of cinnamon powder to a healthy smoothie or a cup of herbal tea to help treat an upset stomach.

Chamomile Tea for Upset Stomach, Indigestion, and Dyspepsia

One of the best things to drink for an upset stomach is chamomile tea because of its soothing properties.

Drinking chamomile tea is one of the most popular home remedies for stomach upset. Scientific studies have shown that chamomile relaxes muscles in the digestive tract to treat stomach pain and gas. Chamomile also helps relieve diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and indigestion.

The easiest way to use chamomile as a stomach cramp remedy is to put a chamomile tea bag in a cup of boiling water. Cover the cup and allow to infuse for few minutes. Drink the chamomile tea after every meal to remedy an upset stomach after eating.

Cumin and Caraway Help Soothe Stomach Ache

If you suffer from an upset stomach due to a chronic digestive issue, you can try taking cumin extracts to soothe your symptoms.

A study on the healing effects of cumin found that its extracts were good for bloating, nausea, and cramping. The study showed that taking 20 drops of cumin oil daily helped treat many symptoms of IBS including abdominal pain, an urgent need to poop, and mucus in the stool.

Other studies have shown that caraway seeds help to relieve digestive disorders such as stomach upset, indigestion, and a buildup of excess gas.

If you suffer from regular stomach upset, find out other ways of using cumin  to help relieve a queasy stomach.

Black Cumin Seeds for Upset Stomach and Diarrhea

A home remedy that can help you if you feel like throwing up or you have diarrhea is black cumin seeds (Nigella sativa).

Black cumin seeds are different from regular cumin seeds but they have a similar therapeutic effect on your digestive system.

Research from 2016 found that black cumin contains a compound that helps treat symptoms of dyspepsia. Taking black cumin extracts can relieve abdominal distension (bloating), nausea, vomiting, constipation, and diarrhea.

Taking black cumin extract can also treat an upset stomach caused by a gastric ulcer. One study found that black cumin seeds were just as effective as triple therapy for eradicating H. pylori gastric infections.

Figs to Help Resolve Digestive Issues

Figs are one of the foods to eat that help to get your digestive system working better if you have indigestion or constipation.

Fresh and dried figs contain fiber and are packed full of antioxidants that help to relieve a number of gastrointestinal issues. Figs have been used to treat indigestion because of their anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic properties. Figs are also good to eat if stomach aches have been caused by constipation.

One scientific study found that extracts of figs have a laxative effect without causing diarrhea.

Rice Can Help Your Stomach Stop Hurting

If you have diarrhea along with stomach aches, then eating some small portions of white rice can help to improve your symptoms.

Researchers say that rice is digested in the small intestine without causing excess gas. Consuming a rice-based diet if you have intestinal problems can help to reduce bloating and a buildup of flatulence. Rice was recommended as the best food to eat if you have bloating and stomach aches.

Other studies have found that eating rice can benefit people who suffer from persistent diarrhea. Another benefit of eating a rice meal when you have stomach upset is that it helps improve nutrient absorption.

Of course, brown rice is usually recommended because of its fiber content. However, switching to white rice meals may be better if you have stomach upset and diarrhea.

Licorice for Stomach Upset Problems

If you have stomach cramping, nausea after eating, and a sour stomach, taking licorice root can help soothe stomach upset.

Licorice root is good for alleviating stomach complaints because it has antimicrobial and medicinal properties. Licorice can help to kill off bacterial infections and reduce irritation caused by inflammation.

One study into the gastroprotective effects of licorice found that it helps to treat peptic ulcers. In fact, licorice root was just as effective as some traditional remedies for treating ulcers. Some of the symptoms of ulcers include burping, excess gas, a sour stomach, and heartburn.

Probiotics to Manage Digestive Upset

One way to help settle an upset stomach and prevent diarrhea and stomach cramps is to take probiotics regularly.

A 2017 study found that taking probiotics helps to improve the microbiota in the gut and relieve dyspepsia and stomach upset.

One of the foods for stomach upset is yogurt that has been enriched with probiotics. A study involving 44 patients found that probiotic yogurt is good when you have stomach upset. Yogurt with the probiotic strain Lactobacillus gasseri OLL2716 helped to relieve indigestion after eating.

Probiotics are also good for getting rid of stomach aches caused by

Manage Stress to Reduce Bouts of Stomach Upset

One of the ways to help make your stomach stop hurting is to find ways to deal with stress better.

According to scientific research, stress and anxiety can be one of the causes of dyspepsia and indigestion.

A study published in 2018 found that helping people deal with work-related stress is an important way to help relieve stomach aches, nausea, heartburn, and other symptoms of dyspepsia.

What is one of the best ways to help settle an upset stomach that is the result of stress? You can try taking a relaxing bath along with some essential oils.

A warm bath to lower stress and to relieve upset stomach

Scientific research backs up the use of a soothing warm bath to help lower stress and reduce aches and pains.

A 2018 randomized intervention study found that most people reported lower stress levels and fewer aches and pains after a warm bath.

To help relieve stomach upset caused by stress, run a warm bath and add 10-15 drops of lavender oil mixed with 1 oz. (30 ml) of a carrier oil. Soak in the bath for up to 20 minutes to help settle your stomach and reduce your levels of stress.

Breathing Exercises to Relieve Upset Stomach

If you have an upset stomach due to anxiety or chronic stress, then practicing deep breathing can help soothe your queasy stomach.

The Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology reported that deep breathing exercises can help get rid of indigestion and stomach upset. Breathing exercises lasting for 5 minutes a day helped to improve dyspepsia symptoms in a 4-week period.

Moderate Regular Exercise Can Help to Treat Digestive Issues

You may be able to reduce many of the symptoms associated with indigestion by increasing your physical activity.

Research from 2016 found that regular exercise helps to improve digestive health in general. However, researchers found that high-intensity exercising or very little exercising can actually increase some symptoms of indigestion.

Change Your Diet to Resolve Gastric and Stomach Upset

If you are having to deal with symptoms associated with acute or chronic stomach upset, making some dietary changes can help.

Avoid fatty foods. The journal Advanced Biomedical Research advises to cut down on fatty foods if you have stomach upset. Foods cooked or roasted in fat can exacerbate indigestion and feelings of fullness, bloating, and nausea.

The BRAT diet. If you are recovering from diarrhea, gastroenteritis, an upset stomach, or food poisoning, then the BRAT diet could benefit you. The BRAT diet consists of banana, rice, applesauce, and toast. These are foods that are easily digestible and can help you recover quicker from severe stomach upset.

The FODMAP diet. This consists of foods that are easily digestible and lessens the impact of chronic digestive conditions that cause stomach upset. Studies have found that the FODMAP diet can help relieve bloating, stomach aches, and diarrhea.

The Bland diet. Temporally switching to the bland diet can help treat a sour stomach, vomiting, stomach aches from ulcers, and diarrhea. The principles of the bland diet are to consume foods that are not spicy, fried, or fatty.

Avoid dairy or gluten if you have food allergies, sensitivities, or difficulty digesting lactose in dairy products or gluten in grains.

Drink Fluids to Improve Digestive Health

One of the simplest ways to help keep your digestion working property and avoid indigestion is to drink plenty of fluids.

According to research published in 2019, mild dehydration can lead to an increase of symptoms relating to indigestion.

If you experience frequent bouts of diarrhea, it is very important to replenish your body with enough electrolytes.

Apple Cider Vinegar for a Sour Stomach

If you suffer from heartburn, acid reflux, or other symptoms of indigestion, then drinking diluted apple cider vinegar (ACV) can be good for your stomach upset.

One study found that consuming diluted apple cider vinegar can help to neutralize excess stomach acid. In fact, in some cases, drinking apple cider vinegar could be as useful as antacids for heartburn.

One way to boost the effectiveness of apple cider vinegar for helping to get rid of indigestion is to add some raw honey. Studies have shown that honey can help to relieve some of the symptoms of acid reflux.

You could also use honey to get rid of a sour stomach because Manuka honey can destroy the H. pylori bacteria in the gut.

Make an apple cider vinegar drink for stomach upset by mixing 1-2 tablespoons of ACV with 8 Fl.oz. of water. Add a teaspoon of honey, mix well and drink 2 or 3 times a day to help improve your stomach health.

Lemon Juice and Baking Soda Drink As a Home Remedy for Upset Stomach

You can cure an upset stomach fast by consuming a drink containing lemon juice and baking soda.

Consuming spicy meals or fatty meals can lead to pressure in your stomach and indigestion. Some studies have shown that combining citrus juice with an alkaline such as baking soda works to relieve gastric upset.

For example, researchers from India found that combining lime juice with sodium bicarbonate helped to quickly cure stomach upset. The acidic lime juice helped break down fat during digestion and the baking soda neutralizes stomach acid.

Even just drinking a glass of water with a teaspoon of baking soda can be effective for treating heartburn naturally.

Did you know that drinking a glass of lemon water first thing in the morning can help boost your digestion? Treating indigestion and dyspepsia with lemon juice is one of the benefits of this healthy drink.

Aloe Vera to Treat a Sour Stomach

Drinking aloe vera juice can help to remedy several digestive issues.

For example, a research published in the Journal of Research in Medicinal Sciences reported that drinking 30 ml of aloe vera juice daily helped to relieve abdominal discomfort and excess gas in patients with IBS.

Scientific research has found that taking aloe vera juice can help to get rid of stomach upset due to its healing and soothing properties.

Other studies have found that you can use aloe vera syrup as a home remedy to treat the symptoms of indigestion naturally.

Heating Pad to Relieve Stomach Pain and Gas

If you want to get rid of stomach cramps fast, you can try placing a hot water bottle or similar warm item on your abdomen.

Researchers claim that placing a heating pad or taking a warm bath can help to relieve abdominal cramping.

Although this heat remedy was said to be effective for stomach aches and pains due to menstruation, you can also use it to get pain relief from a sore stomach due to food intolerances or gastritis (stomach inflammation).

What to Do If You Continue to Have an Upset Stomach?

Usually, symptoms of having an upset stomach such as nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal cramping go away after a few hours or few days.

If your symptoms of an upset stomach persist or become severe, you should see your doctor. Repeated episodes of diarrhea with bloating and cramping could be a sign of a chronic digestive condition.

Doctors from the Mayo Clinic say that if you have symptoms of bloody stools, persistent nausea and vomiting, fever, or tenderness when you touch your abdomen, you should seek emergency medical help.
