Weight loss: The perfect time to eat a dessert

Can't stay away from sugar?

Sugar is the big culprit in our diet. From the added calories to the zero nutrition on the label, we don't really need to tell you about the need to cut down on your sugar intake. If you are looking to lose a few kilos, the number one thing to do is to cut back on your sugar intake and that immediately means saying no to those chocolates, sweets, and desserts. As helpful as this is, taking this step is very difficult for those who have a sweet tooth and cannot fathom their day ending without a sweet treat. What do you do if you want to watch your weight without missing the sinful indulgences?

There's help!
Well, there is actually a diet that can help you stay focused on your goals without actually staying away from desserts. No, we are not entirely kidding. Known as the ‘Eggs and Desserts’ diet, the idea behind this diet plan is to not just help you lose weight but also reduce your cravings and hunger pangs, by feeding the body a carbohydrate-rich breakfast, often by including something sweet in the breakfast. This might sound rash, but a study observed that people were able to reduce their cravings, induce satiety and maintain their weight in the long run.

Evidence

The study behind the "eggs and dessert diet" is based on a report by Science Daily which found out that people who eat this particular way were able to resist their cravings, reduce hunger pangs and in the long run manage to maintain their weight by having something sweet, protein-rich, such as a dessert in the morning. This diet also helps in limiting your carbohydrate intake during evening hours, which is considered a big no-no when it comes to dieting and weight loss.

The study
For the study, participants were split into a group of two. While one group received a low-calorie diet (particularly low on carbs), the other group was allowed to have the same breakfast, but with some additional carbs by allowing them to have something sweet-like chocolate, doughnuts or a slice of cake. Both the breakfasts were also rich in protein as well. The study was conducted over a period of eight months.

After the time period finished, participants in both groups were able to lose weight. However, in the last four months of the study, it was seen that people in the first group who weren't allowed a dessert regained some kilos and weren't able to sustain weight loss, as compared to the 'dessert' group-who were able to reduce their cravings in the long run and reported feeling satiated and less hungry too.
According to doctors, the prime idea behind losing weight is to not just lose the fat and the extra weight but also modify the appetite by reducing cravings in the long run which could prevent piling on the lost kilos.

The con
Like with every fad diet, there are risks with this one as well. While sugar can curb your untimely cravings, the diet can also be easily misunderstood. Desserts, although high in sugar, can be extremely low in essential nutrients and devoid of your body of them. Hence, it is important to supplement your diet accordingly.
