Home Remedies to Reduce Scars and Nourish Your Skin

Fenugreek(methi) Paste

Fenugreek  is used for a range of ailments, from easing indigestion to reducing dandruff and joint pain ,to lower your glucose levels ! It can also help with skin inflammation and irritation, such as that which may occur with a scar. Evidence suggests that it also helps to lighten skin, thus reducing the appearance of the scar or hyper-pigmentation. For this, the seeds are made into a paste is the most effective way of getting their benefit.
You will need…
-Fenugreek seeds
-Warm water
-mixer to grind

Directions
How much fenugreek you’ll need depends entirely on the size of the scar. Start with a tablespoon or two, and if there is extra store in the fridge for up to three days.
Soak the seeds overnight in warm water, or until they are soft (even “slimy”) feeling. Drain and grind into a paste. If the paste is too thick, you can sprinkle little warm water at a time until it is the proper consistency-thick but easily spreadable, not thin. Rinse the area with warm water and pat dry. Apply enough to cover the scar and leave on for 30 minutes. Rinse off with warm water and pat dry.
As as it can be drying, better to use some moisturizing cream.

Lemon Juice

Lemon juice, in addition to having other benefits, is known to lighten skin.  It is also thought to reduce or break down the existing melanin in the skin as well. Be careful after applying lemon juice as it can make you a bit more sensitive to the sun for some time after using it.
You will need…
-1 fresh lemon
Directions
Juice the lemon. Rinse the affected area and then apply directly. Do this up to twice a day as needed and be patient, as it isn’t instantaneous. Keep the leftover juice in the fridge for later use.

Hand-held device can detect deadly skin cancer

A new hand-held device that uses lasers and sound waves may change the way doctors treat and diagnose the deadly skin cancermelanoma, says new research.

The instrument can be used directly on a patient and accurately measure how deep a melanoma tumour extends into the skin, providing valuable information for treatment, diagnosis or prognosis.

The technique relies on the photoacoustic effect in which light is converted into vibrations.

In the case of the new device, a laser beam shines into the skin at the site of a tumour.

Melanin, the skin pigment that's also in tumours, absorbs the light whose energy is transferred into high-frequency acoustic waves.

Unlike light, acoustic waves do not scatter as much when traveling through skin.

Tumour cells will produce more melanin than the surrounding healthy skin cells, and as a result, the acoustic waves can be used to map the entire tumour with high resolution.

The device has a detector that can then turn the acoustic signal into a three-dimensional image on a screen.

"Being able to measure the depth of the tumour in vivo enables doctors to determine prognoses more accurately a" potentially at the time of initial evaluation a" and plan treatments and surgeries accordingly," said dermatologist Lynn Cornelius from Washington University in St Louis.

The latest version is not only hand-held but it also delivers light around and below the tumour, which generates a bright image of the tumour's bottom and an accurate measurement of its depth, researchers added.

The paper was published in the journal Optics Letters.
