Homemade Mouthwash

Traditional mouthwash is usually made with a sharp minty flavor to make our breath smell fresh and pleasant. However, mint only masks the smell and actually feeds odor-causing bacteria with more sugar. Also, most commercial brands of mouthwash mainly consist of synthetic colors, flavors, and chemicals that are not so good for you.

Better than masking your breath smell, you can make your own mouthwash at home using natural ingredients that will clean your mouth from the bottom up. This mouthwash is made from ingredients that you likely have at home, so give it a shot (so to speak) and get to know the homemade goodness you've been missing!

About the ingredients
Honey: This ingredient has a number of antibacterial properties that kill off all the bad bacteria in your mouth instead of feeding them with sugar. Also, adding honey makes the wash taste better. Use organic or raw honey for the best results.

Cinnamon:
A miracle spice in every way, cinnamon gets rid of odors by killing off the odor-causing bacteria in one blast. The International Association for Dental Research found that people who chewed cinnamon gum had a 50 percent decrease in oral bacteria versus people who chewed mint gum.
Lemon:

The last ingredient of this mouthwash is a given - lemon is strong, refreshing and cleansing, so it will wash all the hidden food and bacteria from your mouth. It also has whitening properties. Just make sure not to add too much lemon because it can erode your enamel if not used properly.

Recipe for one small bottle of mouthwash

Ingredients
Juice of 2 freshly-squeezed lemons

½ tbsp. ground cinnamon

½-1 tsp. baking soda (more whitening properties)

1-½ tsp. honey

1 cup warm water (to melt the honey)

A clean bottle or jar with a lid

Directions
1. Mix together all of the ingredients and give it a shake.
2. Swish or gargle 1-2 tablespoons of the mouthwash for a minute after brushing your teeth or whenever you want to freshen your breath.
3. Don't use the mouthwash more than once to twice a day (the lemon is very acidic).

A Guide to Making Homemade Natural Mouthwash

Traditional mouthwash products usually include various artificial ingredients that taste and smell strongly like mint to hide bad breath, and that's where the problem lies. Most of these products only hide the bad smell and don’t address the root of the problem, but just for this nature has blessed us with three healthy and tasty products that will help you prepare a natural and effective mouthwash. All you need is a glass of water, lemon, honey, and cinnamon. Read on and find out how to make this useful preparation and why it’s so effective and healthy for our body.
mouthwash
Honey:  mouthwash
This thick, sweet liquid has strong anti-bacterial properties that treat one of the main causes of bad breath. In addition, the honey gives your mouth a wonderful taste that will help you to refresh your mouth in the morning and go to sleep with a pleasant sweetness at night.

Cinnamon: mouthwash
Cinnamon is one of my favorite spices because of its strong flavor and also because of its many health benefits. A study by the International Dentist Association found that people who chew on cinnamon gum experience a 50 percent reduction in the number of bacteria that cause mouth infections and, consequently, bad smell. Cinnamon also contains cinnamaldehyde, a powerful antioxidant that protects the oral cavity and teeth.

Lemon:
mouthwash
The last major ingredient is one of the most useful citrus fruits to be found, and here too, as in many other cases, lemon adds a lot. Lemon has a strong and refreshing taste and the active ingredients it contains contribute to cleaning the oral cavity from harmful bacteria that cause a bad smell. Lemon juice also has a whitening effect on your teeth, but you shouldn’t add too much of it to your mixture since its acidity can negatively affect. A cup of lemon water is also how I start my days as this wonderful drink has many benefits.

Ingredients for making a small bottle of the mouthwash:
Fresh juice from two squeezed lemons
½ a tablespoon of ground cinnamon
½ a teaspoon to a teaspoon of baking powder (optional - adds a slight whitening effect)
A tablespoon of honey
A cup of hot water (to melt the honey)
A clean glass bottle or jar with a lid
mouthwash
Directions:
Add all the ingredients to your container of choice and mix well. Use 1-2 tablespoons of the mouthwash and gargle the liquid in your mouth for about a minute after brushing your teeth or whenever you feel you need to wash your mouth. It is recommended not to use this mouthwash more than twice a day due to the acidity of the lemon.

And that's it, that's all you need to do to keep your mouth clean and fresh. You can prepare your mouthwash whenever you want and enjoy a natural homemade solution that’ll save you money and keep your mouth healthy!
