A Guide to Making Homemade Natural Mouthwash
Traditional mouthwash products usually
include various artificial ingredients that taste and smell strongly
like mint to hide bad breath, and that's where the problem lies. Most of
these products only hide the bad smell and don’t address the root of
the problem, but just for this nature has blessed us with three healthy
and tasty products that will help you prepare a natural and effective
mouthwash. All you need is a glass of water, lemon, honey, and cinnamon.
Read on and find out how to make this useful preparation and why it’s
so effective and healthy for our body.
Honey:
This thick, sweet liquid has strong anti-bacterial properties that treat
one of the main causes of bad breath. In addition, the honey gives your
mouth a wonderful taste that will help you to refresh your mouth in the
morning and go to sleep with a pleasant sweetness at night.
Cinnamon:
Cinnamon is one of my favorite spices because of its strong flavor and
also because of its many health benefits. A study by the International
Dentist Association found that people who chew on cinnamon gum
experience a 50 percent reduction in the number of bacteria that cause
mouth infections and, consequently, bad smell. Cinnamon also contains
cinnamaldehyde, a powerful antioxidant that protects the oral cavity and
teeth.
Lemon:
The last major ingredient is one of the most useful citrus fruits to be
found, and here too, as in many other cases, lemon adds a lot. Lemon has
a strong and refreshing taste and the active ingredients it contains
contribute to cleaning the oral cavity from harmful bacteria that cause a
bad smell. Lemon juice also has a whitening effect on your teeth, but
you shouldn’t add too much of it to your mixture since its acidity can
negatively affect. A cup of lemon water is also how I start my days as
this wonderful drink has many benefits.
Ingredients for making a small bottle of the mouthwash:
Fresh juice from two squeezed lemons
½ a tablespoon of ground cinnamon
½ a teaspoon to a teaspoon of baking powder (optional - adds a slight whitening effect)
A tablespoon of honey
A cup of hot water (to melt the honey)
A clean glass bottle or jar with a lid
Directions:
Add all the ingredients to your container of choice and mix well. Use
1-2 tablespoons of the mouthwash and gargle the liquid in your mouth for
about a minute after brushing your teeth or whenever you feel you need
to wash your mouth. It is recommended not to use this mouthwash more
than twice a day due to the acidity of the lemon.
And that's it, that's all you need to do to keep your mouth clean and
fresh. You can prepare your mouthwash whenever you want and enjoy a
natural homemade solution that’ll save you money and keep your mouth
healthy!
