7 Tips That May Save Your Life One Day

Most people can go through their life without being put in life-threatening situations, but sometimes, remembering what to do in such a case can make the difference between a tragedy and a scary memory. Memorize these 7 simple facts and you just might be thankful you did one day, although I sincerely hope this is never the case.

The  limits of the human body often follow the “ Rule of Three”.

3 minutes without air

3 hours without shelter from the elements

3 days without drinking

3 weeks without eating

If you find yourself caught in a riptide and being pulled out to sea, remain calm and swim parallel to the shore.

Trying to fight the riptide is a losing battle, and will just lead to exhaustion- the main cause of drowning.

If you are in a burning building- keep your head down.

Fire victims often die from smoke inhalation rather than the fire itself. Smoke rises, meaning that fresher air is found closer to the ground. You can also cover your face with a wet towel for extra protection.

Do you spend more than two straight hours sitting down? If so, get up, stretch and walk around for 5 minutes.

Whether you have an office job or are traveling, siting for prolonged periods of time can lead to blood clots in you calves. These clots can travel through bloodstream and end up blocking blood flow to vital organs.

If you see a photo where you’re the only person in a group who has ‘ red eyes’, visit a doctor.

‘Red eye’ in just one person in a group photo may indicate retinoblastoma, which is a type of eye cancer.

Even of the traffic light is green, it’s not necessarily safe to go.

Try to give yourself 2-3 seconds before you go through that green light, especially if it’s a busy intersection.

In a situation where you are crying for help, be specific.

Calling for specific people ( “you with the blue shirt”) will increase the likeliness of them helping you.

Being called out puts them in an accountable position, reducing the likeliness of the “bystander effect” (when more people are around, many people feel like it’s not their responsibility to be the one to help).

Babies inhale dust as they crawl, that they may just avoid asthma when they’re older

Crawling babies are human vacuum cleaners, breathing in four times more dirt and bacteria from the floor than an adult would walking across the same area.

And while the tots’ extreme levels of inhalation sounds alarming, researchers have found that time spent rolling, sliding or crawling along the floor can help protect them from developing asthma and allergies later in life.

It is the first study to measure how much debris is kicked up by babies’ unique methods of movement and bursts of activity.

“Infants’ bodies are not good at blocking this dust storm,” said a researcher.

“For an adult a significant portion of the biological particles are removed in the upper respiratory system in the nostrils and throat. But very young children breathe through their mouths and a significant fraction is deposited in the lower airways. The particles make it to the deepest regions of their lungs,” he said.

Dirt, bacteria, skin cells, bacteria, pollen and fungal spores were all found in the dust clouds and carpets were the worst surfaces.

A researcher said that further research was needed into how these findings could benefit people with asthma in the broader community.
