BETA GLUCAN IN OATS HELPS TO REDUCE LDL CHOLESTEROL, CONTROLS BLOOD SUGAR

LDL  cholesterol or bad one as it is called, is the known culprit for many heart disease. The soluble fibre, known as beta glucan found in oats reduces the risk of heart diseases.

Consuming 3 gm of beta glucan gives 5-10 % reduction in LDL. This is approximately a daily dose of 60 gm ( 3/4 cup of dry oats).

Beta glucan moderates blood sugar in diabetics. It boosts the immune system & effectively reduces bacterial & parasitic infections. The different fibres in oats also act as a protection against colon cancer.

Every plant produces chemicals ( phytochemicals) usually in defence against pathogens attacking it. One group of such chemicals found it oats is, avenanthramides, which has strong anti-oxidant properties that also prevent the thickening of the blood vessels of the heart.
