Change this one thing in your sleep schedule to lose weight

If you are trying to shed extra kilos, there is a good chance that you have tried everything from meal preps to drinking enough water to see the scale moving.

But if you have yet not achieved the desired results, here is another trick you can try. There is one simple thing that you can change about your sleep schedule to expedite weight loss.

The change

According to a study, if you go to sleep earlier in the evening, it can help you shed those extra kilos. This is because if you will sleep earlier, you will eat less. As per the study at The Salk Institute, the longer you stay up, the more calories you consume.

Thus, the scientists speculated that the best way to cut down calorie intake can be by getting more sleep. A group of people was asked to sleep for longer hours than usual and cut their grazing hours from 14 to 11. After 16 weeks, people who went to bed earlier lost 3.5 per cent of their body weight, while others who slept late didn't.

Other benefits of getting more sleep

Sleeping less than the recommended eight hours can wreck your weight loss goals, says a study conducted by Annals of Internal Medicine. The study found that lack of sleep can slow down digestion and thus lead to weight gain.

This means, just some simple tweaks like sleeping early and sleeping and waking up at the same time every day can help accelerate your weight loss process.

Multiple studies have found that people who have a consistent sleep schedule, which included sleeping and waking up at the same time daily (even on the weekends), were able to lose more weight than people who do not have a consistent schedule.
