HEALTH BENEFITS OF GARLIC

Garlic contains allicin, which is a compound with numerous health benefits including antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-fungal properties. That does not even count the vitamins and minerals found in the nutritious seasoning.Garlic has been used since centuries not only in cooking but also for its medicinal values

 1) Lowers Blood Pressure- Hypertension / high blood pressure,  is a known killer all across the world. Garlic contains polysulfides which are effective in  the widening of the blood vessels and also relaxation of the muscles. This helps blood pressure being lowered within the body and is an effective home remedy if consumed in controlled amounts.

 2) Boosts Immune System- If you get sick a lot, including the common cold or flu, you should add more garlic to your diet. A 12-week study revealed that people who took 2.56 grams of garlic per day or related supplements, not only got sick less times but the length and severity of their cold or flu was less and they had better recovery. Garlic contains the chemical "allicin" which is known to aid health within the body.

3)Lowers Bad Cholesterol Levels and prevents heart diseases- If you have high cholesterol, garlic can assist in lowering your total and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol. Although it does not affect raising the ‘good’ high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol or lowering harmful triglycerides, it does reduce the bad cholesterol. Being about 10 or 15% too high on your cholesterol test can easily be adjusted by upping your garlic intake. LDL cholesterol, also known as bad cholesterol, is controlled by allicin as it improves liver functions. The liver can then break down LDL cholesterol easily and thus also helps in preventing arteriosclerosis. Garlic is also known to prevent blood clots that lead to heart attacks.

4) Anti-parasitic and anti-bacterial properties-Garlic has been known throughout the ages to be an effective antibacterial and anti-parasitic agent. Garlic extracts or small amounts of garlic in your diet can help you build up immunity and also kill infections within your system effectively. It is also known to be very effective against tapeworm infestations within the gut.

5)Improves Brain Function -Free radicals contribute to aging process. Antioxidants from garlic help protect the body from oxidative damage. An increased amount of antioxidants in your diet can boost brain health. Thus may prevent the onset of brain diseases such as Alzheimer’s and dementia. 6) Improve bone health-Garlic is known to be very beneficial for bone health, especially in menopausal women. Women may encounter bone loss during menopause as the production of estrogen is lowered. 7) Detoxes heavy metals- Garlic can actually help protect your body from heavy metal toxicity, which can lead to organ damage. A study showed that garlic consumption in people who were exposed to heavy metals reduced the toxicity levels. In turn, related symptoms such as headaches and high blood pressure also improved. The test was completed on employees from a car battery plant that had high amounts of lead exposure. Over the four-week period, they consumed three doses of garlic every day and when tested, it showed very encouraging results.

8) Wards off fungal infections-Fungal infections can range from athlete’s foot and jock itch to ringworm and candida. Garlic has anti-fungal properties that can fight these infections. All you have to do is apply garlic oil or gel onto the affected area. If you have oral thrush, you can use a garlic paste. Even after the infection clears, you should try to eat raw, fresh garlic, even more, to prevent reoccurring problems in the future.

9) Fights infections-  Other than anti-fungal properties, garlic is known for antiviral and anti-inflammatory uses. Different allergies can cause respiratory issues, but garlic can reduce airway inflammation resulting from allergic rhinitis. Minced garlic might provide quick relief if you have a rash, bug bite, or some other itchy problem. During allergy season, you can take a garlic supplement every day to keep your allergies away.

10) Temporary relief from toothache-  Having an aching tooth, try rubbing garlic on the affected area. If you do not have sensitive gums, it can provide relief. A garlic clove can be crushed or just rub the broken piece of garlic on your tooth and gum. The antibacterial and analgesic properties should soothe the pain temporarily, till you can visit the dentist.

11) Aids digestion- Garlic stimulates your stomach membrane to create more gastric juices, which aids digestion. Your liver also releases toxins from the body thanks to garlic. Garlic can also protect your liver from harm. However, that does not mean you should consume excessive amounts of the smelly spice because it can irritate your tract and lead to heartburn. Overeating garlic can cause bloating, gas, and an upset stomach. It is commonly known that garlic creates bad breath, too. Garlic may act as a blood thinner and interfere with related medications, so better to inform your physician if you're consuming garlic regularly.
