SOME THINGS CAN CAUSE YOUR STOMACH TO BLOAT!
Bloated abdomen is quite disgusting, especially when one is meeting some important people, as it makes you feel very uncomfortable and at times a bit embarrassing too !
If we're a bit careful and take care of small things while we eat or drink, it can lead to a better situation for us.
1) Eating too fast- many people, especially those who lived their earlier lives in hostel, have this bad habit of gulping down their food than chewing it well. It was due to lack of time. So, what happens is, one tends to gulp down a lot of air with food. Then not chewing the food properly also leads to indigestion, as some of our digestion starts in our mouth, by proper chewing of our food.
2) Drinking from a straw- It is better to drink straight off from a cup/ mug/ glass than sipping from a straw. When sipping through a straw, we do take in a lot of air and makes us feel bloated. This is worse when we drink any aerated drinks.
3) Too much of chewing gums or candies-When one has the habit of chewing gums, when does swallow a lot of air while chewing a gum. The same thing happens while sucking a candy too. To lessen this, one can take sips of water in between. The water will not only help to reduce bloating but the constant movement of the intestine, will reduce this greatly.
4) Packaged foods- Due to the pressure of time, with both spouses working, people tend to buy these convenient packaged foods, which are loaded with artificial flavours, food colours, high in sodium and other preservatives which are all harmful to health too
5) Beans / legumes- Beans are a good source of protein, mainly for vegetarians. They're high in fibres too, but sadly humans don't have the enzymes to digest them, which again leads to bloating.
6) Artificial sweeteners and low calorie foods- More health conscious one gets, one starts counting calories for every morsel of food that we ingest and takes longer to digest. The artificial sweeteners aren't considered as foods by our cells, so it takes longer to digest.
Best relax while you eat. Enjoy your meal by chewing well, cook food the correct way. Don't fall prey to the artificial sweeteners, colours and packaged foods. Eat what is locally produced, chew your food well, it will go a long way to healthy life.
