Women need to STOP having diet soda

Love having diet sodas? YOU NEED TO STOP!

Let’s face it. We all know that sodas and fizzy drinks aren’t really healthy and don’t do any good for us. But you can’t ignore how good they taste! And, if you are thinking that diet sodas and drinks are the safer buys and something which you can continue having on your diet, think again. Diet sodas are just as dangerous and toxic as the regular fizzy colas and drinks. This risk can be quite costly for women, as per a new study. It can put you at the risk of catching a stroke and related heart diseases if you do not.

What makes diet soda so popular?

A lot of people give in to the diet soda option just because it is advertised that it contains zero calories and is a good option for those on the mission to lose weight too. But, that is not the actual case. While it does away with the sugar content (which runs approximately 400 calories in a regular soda can), it replaces that with artificial sugar like aspartame, saccharin, and sucralose. In the long run, they can confuse your taste buds and stop you from actually recognising the sugar content in naturally sweet substances and fruits. They also trigger insulin resistance and put you at the risk of possible weight gain. And not to forget, there is no nutritional value to it so drinking this is worse than a glass of water.

The findings

According to a study published recently, women over the age of 50 were more likely to fall prey to the perils of heart diseases and stroke if they had more than one drink a day. It also pointed to the statistics of early death for women. So, it is best that you stay away from them and do some damage control.

Before you drink that can of diet soda, remember this:

When you drink that harmless soda or fizzy drink, what you are really doing is taking in empty calories. To burn that, you will have to do at least 15 minutes of any high-intensity workout for every can of cola you drink.

Make a better lifestyle habit

The study was conducted on over 82,000 women who reported menopausal symptoms. Of the women who reported having more than 2 fizzy or carbonated drinks a week, they showed more signs of coronary diseases and cardiac arrests. It was also highlighted that the risks multiplied for those who made informed choices, drinking diet sodas and maintained a considerably bad lifestyle which contributed to worsened health conditions.

There are other possible health risks too

Another study conducted in 2015 also observed that diet soda drinkers are three times more likely to suffer from bad mental health and develop dementia than those who consumed it less frequently.

What are the replacements?

So, what we are really suggesting is that you cut down on your consumption of sodas and diet sodas while you are at it. Look for other replacements with your meal and make a better choice. Having lemonade, fruit infused water, coffee or simply a bite of your favourite sugar fix can do the job well too.
