What diabetics and others need to pack in case of emergency
Disasters always come unannounced. So, diabetics should be always prepared for such emergencies.Always store in a ready to grab bag, medicine that you'll need for at least 7 days- tablets, insulin, syringes, swabs and other medications that you daily take. Store it in a insulated bag or cold pack, especially your insulin.
You also need to pack your glucometer, test strips, extra batteries for glucometer.
If you've to check for ketones, then ketone test strips.
If you're type 1 diabetic, and using insulin pump, pack that along with extra reservoirs and infusion sets, vials, insulin syringes.
Make sure that you've a card or a small note where you mention the type of diabetes you've, the medications you take, your blood group, contact number of your doctor, your spouse/ children / nephrologist, and make sure you write down the dosage of your medicine.
You need to pack some candies or cookies or raisins in case your blood sugar level drops low.
Also pack some ready to eat foods and water for a couple of days.
You also need to pack emergency medications- for fever, allergy, nausea, diarrhea, basic antibiotic tablets, band-aid strips, hypo-cortisone cream, gauze, scissors, dusting powders.
Pack clothes for a couple of days always ready in a bag ( this goes for all, as emergency can come any time).
Keep all your medical records handy to grab and go, this again is a must for all elderly people too.
this is only for your information, kindly take the advice of your doctor for medicines, exercises and so on.
