Blood sugar level in check- drink this for breakfast- type 2 diabetes

For a diabetic patient, keeping their blood sugar level in check is one of the most challenging tasks. They always have to be careful about their diet and frequently keep checking their blood sugar level to avoid any complications. But what if we say that managing your blood sugar level can be easy? You just have to drink this particular beverage in your breakfast meal.

As per a study, milk largely contributes to keeping the level of glucose low throughout the day. 

The connection between milk and blood sugar level

The study published in the Journal of Dairy Science in 2018, revealed that consuming milk at breakfast lowers blood glucose throughout the day.

The researchers carried out the study to examine the effects of drinking high-protein milk at breakfast on blood glucose levels and satiety after having breakfast and then lunch.

They observed that milk consumed with breakfast cereal reduced the postprandial blood glucose concentration as compared with water. On the other hand, high dairy protein concentration reduced postprandial blood glucose concentration compared with normal dairy protein concentration. The high protein meal also reduced the appetite after the second meal as compared with the low-protein one.

In the double study, the team of researchers carefully examined the effects of increasing protein concentration and increasing the proportion of whey protein in milk when consumed with a bowl of high-carb breakfast cereal on blood glucose, satiety level, and eating pattern throughout the day.

They observed that the digestion of whey and casein proteins, which are naturally present in milk, releases gastric hormones that delay the process of digestion. This automatically increases satiety. 

The limitation

The study revealed that there was only a modest difference between the food consumed during lunch when increasing the amount of whey protein at breakfast. But having milk with high-carbs food in the morning reduced blood glucose even after lunch, in which high-protein milk played a vital role.

This study confirms the importance of milk at breakfast time for a diabetic patient. It helps in the slower digestion of carbohydrates and makes it easy to manage the blood sugar level all day.

Many people think that milk is not healthy for diabetic, but this is not true. Any kind of milk is beneficial for a diabetic patient. Milk is rich in nutrients and minerals that play a crucial role in keeping us healthy. Whole milk, skim milk and other milk alternatives like almond and soy milk are considered best for people who suffer from diabetes. Avoid adding sugar to milk, instead use honey or jaggery powder for the best results.
