Jaggery and raisins: Add them to your diet to lose weight

Trying to lose weight?

It is said that "You are what you eat". If you eat healthy foods, you will automatically become healthy and fit.

When we talk about healthy food for weight loss, then it won't be incorrect to say that the list is quite long. Quite often we get to know about food combinations that are claimed to be good for shedding kilos. From smoothies to protein bars, the list is endless. However, if you want to keep it simple then jaggery and raisins should be your pick.

Jaggery for weight loss

The first rule of weight loss is to cut down the consumption of all refined food items and sugar is one of them. White sugar only contains calories and zero nutrients. Substituting it with jaggery is an excellent idea. Jaggery is naturally sweet and a healthy sugar substitute.

Benefits of jaggery

Jaggery is rich in minerals and contains fewer calories than sugar. Loaded with magnesium, potassium, calcium, selenium, manganese, iron and zinc, jaggery is considered excellent for people suffering from anaemia. 20 grams of jaggery contains 38 calories. Jaggery is absorbed slowly by the body so it does not spike blood sugar levels as rapidly as sugar.

The natural sweetener helps in maintaining the electrolyte balance and prevents water retention in the body. It is also good for your respiratory tract.

Raisins for weight loss

Dry fruits are excellent snacks to curb the untimely hunger between meals. And raisins can be an excellent option for that. They are full of natural sugar and are rich in nutrients like iron, potassium and calcium. You can either soak them overnight and have them in the morning or add some in your oatmeal and smoothies for the sweet taste.

Benefits of raisins

Raisins can help you curb your sweet craving, without increasing your calorie count. They do not spike your blood sugar level. Being rich in vitamin B, vitamin C and iron, raisins helps to strengthen immunity and prevents anaemia. This dry fruit is also high in fibre and can help prevent constipation.

The bottom line

Both jaggery and raisins are good for weight loss plan, but if you consume them in excess then it can lead to weight gain. So, eat in moderation.

Also, if you have diabetes then consult your doctor before including both the items in your diet. Remember that diet is certainly essential or weight loss, but you also need to exercise daily to burn calories and stay fit. Diet and exercises, both are essential for weight loss. In the absence of anyone, you won't be able to shed kilos.
