Weight loss: 6 reasons you have a bulging belly

Do you have a bulging belly

Everyone wants to have a flat stomach. Whether you're someone working to lose weight or simply trying to stay fit. But losing fat from the abdominal area is quite challenging. Even after following a strict diet and performing intense exercise, if you are not able to lose your belly fat then there might be some other hidden reasons behind it.

Here are six common reasons why you have a big belly:
1) Genetics
If even after eating healthy and clean, you are unable to reduce your waistline, then it might be due to your genes. Although genes are not directly linked with a large belly, but it has some impact on it. This happens because visceral fat, which is a type of fat, stored in our abdomen area and responsible for keeping people slim is partly determined by your genetics. So, if your forefathers had large bellies, you might have to suffer from this problem too.

2) Food Allergies
Not all types of food allergies show symptoms like hives or breakouts. Some food allergies like celiac disease and gluten sensitivity can even lead to inflammation and expansion of the stomach. It can also cause bloating, joint pain and headaches.

3) Hypothyroidism
Hypothyroidism is another common reason for unwanted weight gain. Thyroid diseases slow down metabolism, which leads to accumulation of fat in different body parts including your stomach area. Thyroid hormones reduce the pace at which different organs of our body works, as a result, our body burns fewer calories, which ultimately leads to weight gain.

4) Steroids
Steroids are another reason why people gain weight. Mostly perimenopausal women who take steroids to combat hormonal changes are at the risk of gaining weight. This happens because steroids re-balance hormones, which leads to extra fat deposits in different parts of the body, especially in the abdominal area.

5) Anti-depressants
Taking antidepressants for a long time can even lead to weight gain. The drugs affect the insulin levels in the body which lead to unwanted fat accumulation around your tummy. But this depends on the type of drugs you are taking.

6) Insulin
Insulin can cause different chemical changes in our body, which help to absorb glucose and manage blood sugar level. The hormonal changes can generally lead to weight gain.
