Warning Signs of a Food Intolerance

Do you often find yourself running to the bathroom or coming down with a terrible migraine after eating certain kinds of food? If so, you might be suffering from an undiagnosed food intolerance. While an intolerance is usually nowhere near as severe as an allergy, it can still cause a great deal of embarrassment and discomfort, and may cause your quality of life to suffer if left unchecked.
1. Are you going to the bathroom too much?
This could be a sign of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Which includes symptoms like diarrhea, gas, bloated feeling and abdominal pain.
Badly absorbed carbohydrates, which are called FODMAPS, are now considered the primary cause of IBS. The only reliable treatment for IBS is a diet change, called the low FODMAP diet, which aims to eliminate the fermentable carbohydrates that cause IBS.
2. Do some meals give you headaches or migraine?
These are two of the most common signs and symptoms of a food intolerance. They're generally considered to be triggered by monosodium glutamate (MSG).
Therefore, if you find yourself suffering from headaches and migraines regularly, it's agood idea to watch out for products that contain this compound.
3. Do you have wheat intolerance, even though you test negative for celiac disease?
Up to 13% of people who do not suffer from celiac disease still have trouble digesting the wheat protein , gluten.
This condition is called non-celiac gluten sensitivity, or simply gluten intolerance. So, if you have had trouble eating wheat, you should consider a diet that is low in FODMAPS.
4. Is your thyroid underactive?
It is known as hypothyroidism, an under-active thyroid gland does not produce thyroid hormones. Most cases of hypothyroidism are caused by an autoimmune disease, called Hashimoto's, which is prevalent in those who are gluten intolerant. A gluten-free diet is a good way to reduce hypothyroidism.
5. Is your arthritis getting worse?
Osteoarthritis is the result of aging, but if you suffer from rheumatoid arthritis, it might be a sign of food intolerance. Some researchers believe that certain food sensitivities lead to an inflammatory immune disease. This response worsens existing joint inflammation, increasing swelling and pain.
6. Do particular foods give you skin conditions?
Tomatoes and peppers contain quite a large amount of salicylate, which is known to cause skin problems in around 2.5% of those of European origin.
However, it can be difficult to determine whether these two fruits are the cause of skin problems, because skin reaction can take a while to appear after consuming them. To be on the safe side, moderate your tomato and pepper intake if you've problems with your skin.
