NUTRITIONAL NENEFITS OF BANANAS

Bananas are considered as nature's best gift to man, as it can be simply peeled and eaten, no need to remove seeds or pith like in some other fruits. It is one of the fruits available throughout the year. It is available in practically all the countries of the world.

Bananas can be eaten in between meals, or after a heavy workout or a game, to get instant energy from it. It is rich in potassium, good source of fibre, aids constipation, good source of energy.

1)Rids you of your bloating complaints: Since this fruit contains a good amount of potassium, it can help in diminishing water retention, thereby reducing the instances of belly bloat.

2) Good source of energy-  Bananas are considered to be the best source of energy before and after a workout. They provide your body with all the nutrients it requires. They are rich in easily digestible natural sugar that provides your body with optimal energy. They are also a rich source of potassium, making them perfect for warding off dizziness and muscle cramps that sometimes accompany a post-workout. Starting your day with a banana can reduce your sweet cravings in the later half of the day.

3) Aids digestion- Being a good source of fibre, it aids digestion, eating a couple of bananas daily relieves constipation problems, without taking any medication. Another important element of digestion, bananas are rich in fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS). FOS is a prebiotic - i.e. it feeds the important “friendly” bacteria that live in your digestive tract. These bacteria help us absorb nutrients more efficiently. 

4) Keeps ulcers and heartburn at bay- Bananas  help balance your stomach’s pH and enhance the protective mucus layer, relieving pain. The fiber content also moves food through your digestive tract faster - preventing reflux. Eating bananas regularly may help protect against stomach ulcers. Over the long term, bananas thicken the protective mucus barrier in the stomach, preventing damage from hydrochloric acid. Bananas also contain protease inhibitors that help eliminate stomach bacteria which can cause stomach ulcers.

5) Good source of Vitamin B6-  Bananas are particularly high in vitamin B6. This vitamin is important for creating hemoglobin for healthy blood.This vitamin is also involved in maintaining proper blood sugar levels, synthesizing and breaking down amino acids and producing antibodies for a stronger immune response in your body.Just one banana has 1/5th of your recommended daily intake of vitamin B6. They are better than vitamin pills.

6) Boosts your body's metabolic rate while controlling your appetite: Unripe bananas contain a form of starch known as resistant starch that slows down the digestion process. It works by feeding the healthy bacteria in your gut, causing oxidation of the fat tissues and suppression of your hunger pangs. According to findings published in a study, if you replace 5% of your carbohydrate requirement with a food rich in resistant starch, it can result in about 30% of fat burning post your meal.

7) Other nutrients- Other than potassium, fibre, Vitamin B6, bananas are good source of magnesium and manganese.They are also a source of most of the other B vitamins and smaller amounts of trace minerals like iodine, iron, selenium and zinc.

8) Stress busters-  Bananas are a good source of the amino acid tryptophan which your body converts to serotonin. Proper serotonin levels help improve your mood, reduce stress and enhance your general outlook and happiness levels. It also helps regulate your sleep patterns.
Tryptophan is an essential amino acid because the only way your body gets it is through your diet. Bananas though not the highest source of it, they are one of the easiest ways to get a little more tryptophan.Hence a good and quick snack to enhance one's moods.
