CAUSES OF SOCIAL ANXIETY DISORDER
What is social anxiety disorder? It is a chronic mental health condition in which a person has excessive and unreasonable fear of certain social situations. This fear arises from being scrutinized, embarrassed or judged by others. Lack of social skills or experiences can worsen the fear. The persistent anxiety can lead into a panic attack and the person may avoid those situations under extreme distress. These people may also have anxiety fear, that is fear about something even before it occurs. Quite often, some persons are aware that their fear is unreasonable and overblown, but they're not able to overcome the fear.
Social anxiety disorder arises due to interaction of various elements- environment, genes, certain situations or people. Some possible causes are-
1) Inherited traits-Genetic factors plays an important role, especially if one's parents, siblings suffer from it.
2) Structures in the brain- Amygdala may play an important tole in the fear response. People with overactive amygdala may have a higher fear response, showing more anxiety in social situations.
3) Environmental factors- One may even develop the condition after seeing the anxious behaviour of others with whom they're close to in their social group. There may also be a close connection between social anxiety disorder and over-protective parents, who control their children too much.
The social anxiety disorder often seen when one is in adolescence or early adulthood, also it is seen more in women than in men. One can't predict as to what can cause this disorder, but seeing the early symptoms, one can take steps to manage the daily stressful life, avoid alcohol, drugs and caffeine. Meditation, yoga can help to calm a person while facing stress and these should be seriously practiced daily.
