Fractures & post – surgical healing

Fractures & post – surgical healing
Once there is a fracture, while in hospital, bones are held together either by a cast or by steel rods. But the actual process of healing takes place soon after injury, by having blood clots to prevent too much blood loss, then the body starts sending all the healing process to the point of injury. Finally the bones begin to heal by regenerating cells which multiply & join or reconstruct the bones. This amazing power if the body is assisted by proper nutrition.
Calcium is very essential in bone healing & repair as it maintains the blood acid case balance. It is equally important for diabetics for glucose transport.
Potassium is required to maintain the acid base balance & also to ensure effective & timely clotting of the blood. It also helps in forming the bone.
Zinc helps in skin healing & regeneration. It is also essential for maintaining fertility.
Vitamin E is important for tissue repair & healing. Its main sources are almonds & flaxseeds.
Vitamin D is activated by sunlight that is why it is good to do Surya namaskar in the morning.
Vitamin C is important for skin healing, helps the immune cells which are the soldiers who fight & eat up the deadly viruses & bacteria in the body. It is also needed for tissue healing & collagen rebuilding.
Chromium is important for faster healing in diabetics. The diabetics who have poor insulin function are also deficient in chromium.
Vitamin B 12 helps the nervous system. In several cases of chronic fatigue syndrome, chronic listlessness & depressive feeling, it has been seen that supplementation with this vitamin helps in a major way to give relief from the symptoms.
Vitamin A being the precursor to important vitamins is very essential for skin healing & regeneration.
Protein supplementation is needed for post surgical healing in cases of bone injuries, muscle injuries & post partum nutrition. The quality & quantity of protein needs to be balanced in order to provide optimal nutrition whilst avoiding protein overload on the liver.
