Most people can go through their life
without being put in life-threatening situations, but sometimes,
remembering what to do in such a case can make the difference between
tragedy and a scary memory. Memorize these 10 simple facts and you just
might be thankful you did one day, although I hope you never do.
1. The limits of the human body often follow the “Rules of Three”, so remember, you can last.
..
3 minutes without air
3 hours without shelter from elements (this may change in extreme conditions)
3 days without drinking
3 weeks without eating
2. If you find yourself caught in a riptide
and being pulled out to sea, remain calm and swim parallel to the
shore.
If you find yourself caught in a riptide, it's essential to remain calm
and avoid panicking. Riptides, also known as rip currents, are strong,
narrow channels of water that flow away from the shore. Instead of
trying to swim against the current, which can lead to exhaustion, swim
parallel to the shore. This will allow you to escape the pull of the
riptide and eventually return to shore safely. Remember, understanding
how to respond in such situations can make all the difference in
ensuring your safety in the water.
3. If you’re in a burning building – keep your head down.
If you ever find yourself in the unfortunate circumstance of being in a
burning building, it's crucial to remember to keep your head down. This
is because victims of fires often succumb to smoke inhalation rather
than from the flames themselves. Smoke is filled with a variety of
harmful gases and particles that can quickly lead to unconsciousness
and, ultimately, death. As smoke is hot, it rises, leaving fresher,
cooler air closer to the floor. By keeping your head down, you increase
your chances of accessing this breathable air.
For added protection, covering your face with a wet towel can help
filter out some of the harmful particles. Additionally, remember to
crawl out of the building, if possible, as this keeps you lower and
closer to the cleaner air. Above all, try to stay calm and focused to
find the quickest and safest way out of the building.
4. In a situation where you are crying for
help, be specific.
Calling specific people (“You with the blue shirt!”) will increase the
likeliness of them helping you. Being called out puts them in an
accountable position, reducing the likeliness of the “bystander effect”
(the more people around, the more people feel like it's not their
responsibility to be the one to help.)
5. Most cell phones can dial the local emergency number when they’re locked, even without a SIM card.
6. What if you're choking and there's no
one around at that moment? Heinlich maneuver, to tightly press from the back around the diaphragm, if alone, press your diaphragm against the back of the chair hard, so what is choking you will come out.
7. Do you spend more than two straight
hours sitting down? Get up, stretch and walk around for 5 minutes.
If you find yourself seated for more than two consecutive hours, it's
important to get up, stretch, and walk around for at least five minutes.
Whether you're working in an office, studying, or even traveling,
prolonged periods of inactivity can negatively impact your health. One
such risk is the formation of blood clots, especially in your calves, a
condition known as deep vein thrombosis (DVT). These clots can dislodge
and travel through your bloodstream, potentially causing
life-threatening conditions if they block blood flow to vital organs
such as the lungs or brain.
Regular movement encourages blood circulation, helping to minimize this
risk. Apart from preventing blood clots, taking frequent breaks from
sitting can also help reduce back pain, improve your posture, and
enhance your overall health and well-being. So, make it a habit to stand
up and move around periodically throughout your day.
8. If you see a photo where you are the only person in a group who has
‘red eyes’, visit a doctor.
If you notice that you're the only person with 'red eyes' in a group
photo, it might be prudent to consult with a healthcare professional.
While this phenomenon is often caused by the camera flash reflecting off
the back of the eye, in rare instances, it can indicate a condition
known as retinoblastoma, a type of eye cancer predominantly affecting
children. The unilateral 'red eye' effect could potentially signify a
tumor interfering with the normal red-eye reflex. However, don't panic.
It's important to remember that this is just one possible explanation
and it could very well be nothing serious. Nevertheless, it's always a
good idea to get any unusual symptoms checked out, as early detection is
key in effectively treating many health conditions.
9. If you’re a man and (for some reason)
you use a pregnancy test that comes out positive, visit a doctor.
Pregnancy tests work by detecting a hormone called human chorionic
gonadotropin (hCG), which is usually produced in the body during
pregnancy. However, in some cases, men can also produce this hormone. If
a man takes a pregnancy test, and it comes out positive, it may
indicate a serious health condition such as testicular cancer. Hence,
it's crucial for him to seek immediate medical attention to rule out any
potential health issues.
10. Even if the traffic light is green, it’s not necessarily safe to go.
Try to give yourself 2–3 seconds before you
go through that green light, especially if it's a busy intersection. A
large percentage of deadly vehicle accidents occurs because some driver
wanted to beat the red light. Waiting for those precious seconds makes
sure you don't take that risk.
This is only for your information, kindly take the advice of your doctor for medicines, exercises and so on.
